#9845 to be a bit disappointed that the school cake sale was full of nasty mageriney fake cakes.

You know, the ones that have magarine/cream not butter cream fillings and crappy fridge cakes.

I feel like such a mug I was asked to contribute and told (exactly)what kind of things to make which I duly did (and it cost a small fortune) Then the stuff I had made was sold off at the same price as the other rubbish(which they couldn't shift).

Go on call me a snobby beetch- I know what I will be making next year

I think the only sensible thing to do is to ask people to bring in cakes. The cake bakers bake and the shop buyers buy. And the kids spend their pennies and some money gets made.

I think the utterly beyond daft thing is to make a big deal about where the cakes come from.

Once a woman complained about a cake she'd bought at the school. One of those horrible butterfly cakes. Can't imagine why she thought it would taste nice but she brought it back and complaied. I offered to refund the 20p. And she became all proud and pretend generous and "no, no, I just thought you ought to know."

wannaBe · 11/07/2008 16:48

we sold the shop bought ones by the packet. apart from the tesco fairy cakes which we removed and used to top up our trays of cakes as they ran out.

by shop bought I mean packets of chocolate fingers/slices of some description etc.

Oh and someone brought in a cake with a best before date of 5th of june. .

SoupDragon · 11/07/2008 16:54

Yes, I noticed the "bog cakes" typo and couldn't be arsed to change it! I meant big cakes.

elkiedee · 11/07/2008 16:55

I haven't got to the stage of baking for events but usually bake with margarine. I do choose what margarine I use though. You shouldn't be able to taste the fat part if it's mixed properly, I start off weighing ingredients but tend to add flour to the cake/sugar to the icing and cocoa to both and check the taste!

kiddiz · 11/07/2008 16:58

I realied that SoupDragon ..It just made me smile. Thought it might be some variation of a mississippi mud pie

SoupDragon · 11/07/2008 17:12

Perhaps... although I never eat anything the children have made at school in case they really do contain something from the bog!

Mrs Minky is not a lazy slattern

oh thats a shame, I was letting my imagination run riot as to what a bog cake consisted of. I am really disappointed now

ihatedairyLea · 11/07/2008 20:40

I think we should have a competition to create a bog cake?

I am up for it but I may use margerine in it, is that allowed

Oblomov · 11/07/2008 20:58

no, thats you out, before you even start dairylea.

falcon · 11/07/2008 21:01

I've never met a fairy cake I didn't like, though I do prefer to bake them using butter instead of margarine, I wouldn't turn down ones made with a non dairy spread either.

ihatedairyLea · 11/07/2008 21:02

what about some cheese?

Oblomov · 11/07/2008 21:42

now, now you, get back to your own thread

it annoys me when cakes are sold for less than the cost of ingredients/electricity used in making them.

ToccataAndFudge · 05/04/2010 12:21

this thread is 2yrs old

twinklingfairy · 05/04/2010 12:39
