To be secretly pleased when my corner shop runs out of all bread except the plastic white stuff?

The pressure to eat bread that's good for you and 'tastes better' means that our bread bin always has a seeded loaf or something else equally poncy in it. Imagine my delight when I had to do an emergency run and the shop only had the plastic white stuff...

It dragged me back in to the days of ham & mustard sarnies and white toast...I'm loving it but it won't last long....the loaf is almost over

oooh guilty pleasures - white toast and butter yum

eddiejo · 11/07/2008 20:55

Sorry looks really dodgy tho you must confess.

mmmmm egg and burnt bacon in fresh bread.....

Goober · 11/07/2008 20:55

EDDIEJO:
Gluten-free idea, take a jar of lemon curd and a spoon. Enjoy.

random · 11/07/2008 20:57

Has to be soft white bread for a bacon sandwich..its the law

eddiejo · 11/07/2008 20:59

Not so keen on lemon curd either - chocolate spread?? ( by the spoonfull of course) or peanut butter. Oh god just remebered the taste of peanut butter and strawberry jam sarnies. mmmmmmm

eddiejo · 11/07/2008 21:00

No wonder not many of us were fussy eaters - we actually ate yummier food?

ChickenBurger · 11/07/2008 21:02

Fish finger sandwiches can only be made with white bread.

Lots of ketchup too, yum.

calsworld · 11/07/2008 21:03

white bread, cold butter, marmalade anyone?

DH insists on brown bread and for the last 9 years that's all we've had in really, but now I have DS so we share a loaf! YAY!

Goober · 11/07/2008 21:04

Sometimes we had sugar sandwiches.
Thank god I don't have to pretend to dash to the shop for bread. I secretly have 2 in the freezer, for bacon sarnies, fish-finger sarnies, other crap/tasty things.

Goober · 11/07/2008 21:05

No ketchup in fish-finger sarnie, how rude!
Mayo. Durr.

eddiejo · 11/07/2008 21:06

Goober - I was also weaned on sugar sandwiches by granny - my husband thinks i'm talking utter BS!!

DanJARMouse · 11/07/2008 21:08

my DH still loves the odd sugar sarnie!

ScottishMummy · 11/07/2008 21:08

oh the cheap value bread is for feeding ducks or making french toast.mmm

Goober · 11/07/2008 21:08

Your DH has lived a sheltered life.
Don't knock it til you've tried it.

Guadalupe · 11/07/2008 21:10

no ketchup here either, mayo, lemon, red onion and rocket. Sadly a gluten free pitta for me but dh has his doughy white superior fishfinger sandwich.

WheresTheAuPair · 11/07/2008 21:11

'tis like food porn- I love it ...marmite on white toast mmm

ooo or salt and vinegar crisp sarnies squashed down...real hangover food (WTAP thinks back wistfully on those days)

cheese and crisp sarnies mmmm

eddiejo · 11/07/2008 21:15

Oh god crisps in any sandwich -- the beeessttt. Guadalupe - also on GF pitta but they taste ok or should I say they're better than nothing!!

Goober · 11/07/2008 21:15

Ketchup is for bacon.
Mayo is for fish-fingers.

Does anyone have sardines on toast? Exceedingly stinky but soooooo good. Not all that sinfull really.

Guadalupe · 11/07/2008 21:18

they are surprisingly ok actually, a bit dry but you can make up for that with mayo!

Thankyouandgoodnight · 11/07/2008 21:18

Having just read all your replies, I have now swapped my poncy seed loaf for a large thick white sliced on my internet shop .

Rock on!

ChukkyPig · 11/07/2008 21:21

Sardines on toast [drool].

I have the same problem in the bakery as the pub.

Walking up to bakery counter, saying in head {wholemeal loaf please, wholemeal loaf please, wholemeal loaf please}, reach counter "white loaf please and can you slice it".

In pub, {diet coke please, diet coke please, diet coke please}, reach counter "pint of stella please and some cheese and onion crisps".

Bugger.

Thankyouandgoodnight · 11/07/2008 21:25

Brilliant !

Toast. Cold. Then butter and honey - mmmmmmm!
