To think this baby should be on some solids by now

A friend of mine has a 9.5 month old ds who is exclusively breastfed. He has not had anything else pass his lips yet. She is a brilliant mother (she is attachment parenting - probably not relevent though)

Please tell me if i'm wrong and i'll stop worrying but i really thought at this age babies need solids due to there iron levels depleting. Also i thought solids help with speech development because of the chewing?

Everytime i see her i casually ask if he's had any solids yet and she says "i don't think he's ready". He has no sn by the way.

I have suggested BLW as i thought this would suit them but still no. Is this not as 'bad' as mother's thinking their baby is ready at 4 months really?

I have never said that the OPs friend should stop bf, just that solids should be started earlier than 9.5mths.

sorry to but in because I really couldn't care less whetehr this woman has weaned her baby or not (never been relevant to me)but "seven Peruvian infants".

Seriously?! Does anyone really bother to do research on a sample size of seven - was it squeezed in at the end of a bigger study on something else or maybe at a weekend/day off. I'm mesmerised at the amount of work writing the report and getting it published must have been for such an insiginificant sample. Or is "seven" a typo?

Kewcumber LOL because I hadn't even thought to comment on the small sample size or noticed. I suppose I would get a better sample at my toddler group

Tori - I have a sneaking suspician its to do with the minimum required to get funding for a littel trip to Peru .

Used to work for an ad agency - every script staretd "Imagine a beach in Hawaii..."

Yeah nice try.

suspicion

Yes LOL It wouldn't be worth my while asking for funding to do research 1/2 mile down the road!
