To not want to go to UK beach unless it is in Cornwall?

If so, try to sell me somewhere else.

Haven't booked holiday yet, so probably wont manage anything in Cornwall.

So we might not get to the beach this year.
[unthinkable emoticon]

Pleas bear in mind I'm a Midlander.

Agree that the Gower and Pembrokeshire are fabulous. There are so many wonderful beaches that you get oodles of space to yourself (see my profile!)

DoubleBluff · 06/07/2008 12:03

Perkin - is that town beach in Tenby?

SheherazadetheGoat · 06/07/2008 12:04

nw. scotland - best beaches in th euk.

hf128219 · 06/07/2008 12:06

The outer hebrides of Scotland - awesome. Try the Isle of Harris. Try Blue Reef Cottages.

Or go to the Isle of Barra - where the plane lands on the beach.

WendyWeber · 06/07/2008 12:14

Gower - so many lovely beaches, so many different kinds

TheMadHouse · 06/07/2008 12:15

I think you are really limited yourself if cornwall is your only option.

Dorset is fab - Lulworth cove and portland bill is fab

Wales - brill

Yorkshire. I live by the sea on the yorkshire coast and my two boys were enjoying the surf in the nude last week - see profile. It is wonderful, saltburn, sandsend, robin hoods bay, whitby. I could go on and on. On the side of the North York Moors, just truly wonderful - local organic icecream, donkey rides, surf too if you want.

MaryBS · 06/07/2008 12:34

Woolacombe, North Devon is my absolute favourite beach in England.

Cloudhopper · 06/07/2008 12:41

The nice thing about cornwall imo is the fact that there are so many small hidden beaches so you feel you have discovered a different world.

All the other places look lovely though. I would have to second south wales - surprised by the reference to rain. No-one goes to Cornwall looking for good weather do they?

Or is that a South East of England viewpoint?

2Happy · 06/07/2008 12:45

You can't beat the North Northumberland coastline IMO. Miles and miles of beautiful sandy beaches, some with huge dunes, lots of them with castles, yet all of them remain fantastically unspoilt and generally pretty quiet - considerably quieter than Cornwall! Also plenty of organic ice cream around thanks to Doddingotn's. And if you get bored of the beaches, you can nip inland and revel in the equally peaceful hills where kids can dam streams, lots of walking, great wildlife. And accommodation is probably a lot cheaper and a lot less likely to be booked up than Cornwall. (And I am in no way biased. Oh no.)

Agree with recommendations for Wales, absolutely stunning, deserted beaches such as Oxwich, 3 Cliffs Bay and many, many more, all over Wales really.

And North Devon is fab too and a good hour or two less of driving than Cornwall.

Cornwall is lovely but just too damn far from most of the rest of the country.

PeachyHidingInTheShed · 06/07/2008 12:51

We went to cprnwall last year and it was lovely but not significantly more so than parts of devopn, dorest (we like charmouth) and Wales.

We try and visit a new one every 2 yeas, the alternatng years being fpr heading to the IoW which we adore

Sidge · 06/07/2008 12:54

The Norfolk coast is gorgeous and if you stay away from Great Yarmouth it is fairly un-naff and low tat.

I agree Cornwall is lovely but the UK has so much more to offer! The Gower peninsula, Dorset, West Sussex, Isle of Wight, Norfolk, Suffolk.

greenlawn · 06/07/2008 13:03

Agree with N Yorks - beautiful, and easier for us to get to than Cornwall (and we live in the S East!)

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/07/2008 13:05

I love the Dorset coast - fab beaches there, especially the wilder ones, and I love the coastline of Suffolk and North Norfolk

This is a little bit further away, but have you thought about going to Jersey? Am slightly biased because I come from there, ok, but it is lovely. All the usual fun beach things plus great food and the water/sun is much much warmer... Have a look on here

Have a lovely holiday!

Teuch · 06/07/2008 13:12

this is my beach (and my dog!)...not sure if I want to share though...

Teuch · 06/07/2008 13:13

west coast Scottish island, btw.

LynetteScavo · 06/07/2008 13:14

That looks like heaven, Teuch. I bet it's cold though!

Wow DoubleBluff - well spotted.

Teuch · 06/07/2008 13:18

bloody freezing But there is a chance it will be freezing wherever you go, so why not just pick somewhere really lovely and not rely on the weather?

LynetteScavo · 06/07/2008 13:19

Am off to google N' Norfolk. If we have a rubbish time I blame it on you lot!

handlemecarefully · 06/07/2008 13:24

North Yorks coast is fab - but I wouldn't recommend it based on weather alone.

I quite like Bournemouth actually
