To think my son isn't fat

I know lots of parents are in denial about this sort of thing but I honestly don't think I am. He is 18 years old, wearing size medium t shirts and 34 inch waist trousers. He weighs 11 stone and I'm not sure exactly how tall he is, less than 6ft but not much less. He runs 10k 2 times a week and 5k 2 times a week. My MIL thinks he is fat (for context my MIL is a size 18).

5'10 and 11 stone sounds perfect to me. I think I was about the same height and weight when I was 18 and I certainly wasn't fat - although I think, weirdly, my waist was 28-30 back then.

I'm shorter and heavier now and would kill to be his weight.

I'm sure, OP, that you can tell whether he's fat or not by looking at him. And tell MIL to get back in her box

He is not overweight. I am a 40 year old female, 163cm tall and 11 stone.
nam only just classed as overnight for BMI and wear size 10/12 clothes.
Ignore your MIL or tell her to take a long look in her own mirror.
His BMI would be a perfectly healthy 22

I would say waist 34 is entering being a bit fat.

My 18 yr old is 6ft 4” with a 30” waist.

my 21 year old the same and I would say he is as skinny as a rake.

really? My 18 year old has a 30 waist and is 5'10. He is very skinny. His BMI has always s hovered just above underweight. It's difficult to find him trousers. I can't see how 2 sizes up is fat?

What!?!?!

11 stone at 5ft10-11 is utterly stick-like and hes a runner. I havent weighed less than 12 stone since i was 16. And im a lot shorter (although my job involves heavy weights).

Tell MIL to do one. We have similar issues as my own will comment about everyone's weight while offering plates of cakes and junk.

You're starting to give creepy reverse Oedipus

😂

It isn’t something we like him doing and I often find myself going to get his pyjama bottoms to hand to him to put on.

Sounds like you MIL needs to hear what I told DD when she was 3 or 4... “other people’s bodies are none of our business”, by the time DD was 5 she learned it.

my son is fairly muscly (6 pack etc) which I think prevents him from looking skinny.

MIL called him fat. Haven't worked out his BMI. At a guess he is around 5ft 10inches.

Just say to her "oooo pot kettle black (MIL) name"

She's probably wrong about her son's height. Most men add a couple of inches at least. 6'4" with a 30" waist is certainly skinny. My DH is borderline underweight with a similar waist but shorter.

I will weigh in. (So to speak). DS is late 20s, 5’11” with a 32 inch waist and weighs a bit under 11 stone. He looks slim. But when he was in the sixth form and playing rugby for the first team he was well over 12 stone and very broad in the shoulders/back but still did not look at all fat. Just powerfully built and well muscled.
It’s an imperfect method to just look at height and weight. Body shape and visible excess fat matter.
