I know it's unreasonable but I come from a place where we didn't use it and when it's written down on MN it drives me crazy. Unlike everything else which I'm perfectly calm about being pregnant with number four!!
Biggest offenders:
Preggers, Sarnie, Sanger, Maccie dees, hon

I'm sure there are loads more.

oh but Sarnie isn't slang - that's dialect.....

agree with the rest though

Beauregard · 02/07/2008 14:30

I wasnt being nasty btw

IAmMummy · 02/07/2008 14:30

Yuk, I really hate preggers too! Also preggie- bleurgh.

Slouchy · 02/07/2008 14:30

Jamie Oliver's recipe books -

It's ok on MN though, it's supposed to be conversational.

Text-speak is a different matter entirely...

zephyrcat · 02/07/2008 14:32

I have to agree with you too twelvelegs.

IAmNotHere · 02/07/2008 14:33

There is no word on mn as hideous as

bubba

Though 'hubby' comes close.

Twelvelegs · 02/07/2008 14:36

Dialect I love, but it has to be accompanied by a history that fits. My DH says sanger/sarnie sometimes and he's not from Liverpool. I am from Somerset and we say snow pitches not settles, dialect is interesting has history and anthropological influence. My MIL said a slice of Dolly Dochie, for Dolcelatte cheese, ewww.

flowerybeanbag · 02/07/2008 14:36

I tend to write how I talk, or try to, so I come across more or less as I am in RL. So none of the offending words listed in the OP but I am guilty of the occasional 'blimey'.

Twelvelegs · 02/07/2008 14:37

bubba and hubby, I agree!!

OP posts:
Twelvelegs · 02/07/2008 14:38

It's nice when you can here an accent in how people write as it can make things quite personal, it's just the horrid slang that bothers me.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 02/07/2008 14:39

can I add Dottie Ps to the hideous Maccie Ds ?
also hubby makes my teeth itch
similarly bubs/bubba/ though I rather like babby
I hate boobs/tits
and I hate the appelation 'alright ?' as a greeting
and 'cheers' - yuck.

flowerybeanbag · 02/07/2008 14:40

I also hate 'alright', both when used as a greeting and also when used as a word rather than 'all right'.

SummatAnNowt · 02/07/2008 14:48

Sarnie?!? What's a Sarnie?!? I am familiar with a sarnie, but not this capitalised word!

Twelvelegs · 02/07/2008 14:50

You'll Note The Capital For All. Shouldn't have done it, the shame, the shame.

OP posts:
SummatAnNowt · 02/07/2008 15:00

I am so glad you are suitable shamed!

downbutnotout · 02/07/2008 15:03

Dh's London-based family all say "sanger" and I HATE it but suspect I am a snob

Twelvelegs · 02/07/2008 15:08

Should that be suitably?

OP posts:
SummatAnNowt · 02/07/2008 17:02
