hotmumshit · 31/10/2026 20:50

I finally found some in Sainsburys today - i think Asda might sell them but cant get them online

The 50/50 Kingsmill is available in my local aldi, but thats not my fave

Whats going on at the King's Mill??

Maybe a merger with hovis which imo tastes shite. Still, its been this way for a while.

Roberts bread is nicest. Its always fresh and soft and the crust isn't leathery.

Apparently asda sells it but never in my entire life have I ever seen it!!

😲😲 omg its terrible! That silly orange paper bag that always falls apart in my kitchen on day 1

End up sticking the bread into food bags

Plus, the bread is hard anyway 😪 😔

Oh wow, I love it! But I’m an odd one and I like wrapping the wax paper up like a Christmas present 🤣

SatinHeart · 31/10/2026 22:18

YABU to complain on here, those on MN that eat carbs at all only eat homemade sourdough.

Who are you going to complain to? Just buy Warburtons, it’s nicer bread anyway

Agreed, this is the best bread!

PaisleyElephant · 31/10/2026 22:23

YABU for eating UPF sliced white bread.

A real loaf of bread from a bakery is so much nicer. Or the fresh bread in supermarkets is ok too, Waitrose do some lovely fresh loaves

Does it last as long as Kingsmill though, fresh bread for me gets gobbled up on the day usually, and is a treat 🙈🙈

@hotmumshit haha, I couldn't eat a whole loaf of bread in a day! It lasts for a few days and after a few days I will use it to dip in soup or makes a toasted sandwich, or do cheese on toast etc. Sometimes I slice it up and put it in the freezer, or use in a recipe that requires breadcrumbs.

To be honest, lasting as long as Kingsmill isn't really a selling point for me. Something that's supposed to be fresh only lasts so long because it's pumped full of nasty chemicals.

I would sooner have smaller amounts of something quality, but each to their own.

Nat6999 · 01/11/2026 00:05

I buy Warburtons Farmhouse, keep it in the freezer & just get out however many slices I need, I only use it for toast & leave any oddments slices & crusts in the freezer to use for stuffing or bread sauce.

@Boreded I haven’t had Fridge Raiders so I googled them and might have been interested if you hadn’t tipped me off. I like tuna but not bread or chicken that smells or tastes like it 🤮

Sherararara · 01/11/2026 07:49

I’m willing to bet, in the event of one of these significant disruptions the government is warning us about, that OP would be one of the first to go…

They annoying thing is they taste great and they’re good for a snack on a diet…but the packet needs to go in the bin the second you finish them or you’ll be smelling them all night

Davros · 01/11/2026 10:16

Yuk. I just emptied the kitchen bin, although it wasn’t full, because I put smoked salmon packaging in it last night. A bit nicer than tunaey bread and chicken

All the packet breads are made in one big factory in Breadbury and put into different packets. Probably 🤔

This is not far from the truth.

Most white sliced bread in the UK is made using the Chorleywood Bread Process (developed in order to use low-quality - i.e. cheap and inferior - ingredients) and the basic recipe and ingredients are the same regardless of which industrial bakery makes it. My brother used to work in one of these giant factories and said that they made bread for several supermarkets, as well as their own brand, and that the only one that differed a little from the others was M&S, which insisted on the bakery using M&S' own recipe.

Now that Allied Bakeries and Hovis have merged there are only two major producers of industrial white bread in the UK - Warburtons and the new Hovis Bakeries.

Warburtons toastie now tastes like youre chewing cardboard. Its bland and tasteless , you might aswell buy the supermarket basic bread at 50p as to eat Warburtons now.

I used to work in a sauces factory and M&S stuff was all kept separate there, their ingredients were sourced from different places to the general stuff for the others. They were very strict

INeverReallyLovedYouAnyway · 01/11/2026 11:39

I’m a Warburtons girl myself although recently they have done something to the paper packaging. It was already shite but now it just rips if you look at it funny.

I find lots of other breads, your Kingsmills, your M&Ss etc, have a mild sweetness to them that I don’t like.

Scarlettpixie · 01/11/2026 11:40

Presumably it doesn't sell as well as the one's they do stock but I feel for you as I hate it when shops stop selling something I like, or start putting milk in things that didn't used to have it (or that I am sure don't need it). You will just have to work you way through the available one's until you find one you like. I tend to go with the shop's own finest or as I like seeded breads, the wild farmed seeded loaf or the warburtons protein loaf are regulars on my shopping order. Sorry can't help you with white. It was all I bought at one time but if you have something different for long enough, your taste will change.

jay55 · 01/11/2026 11:41

I love kingsmill it lasts for ages without going mouldy, warburtons doesn’t even last to the best before date.

LlynTegid · 01/11/2026 11:44

If market forces are that people are choosing to buy bread that has better taste and is better for you, then that is a good thing.

That makes it a no for me. Any bread that is kept artificially mould free might as well be plastic. 🤢

I live alone. It is really wasteful to have bread that only lasts 2 days before going mouldy. That’s 3/4 of a loaf being thrown out.
So I’m happy to eat plastic.

Nuttyrubble · 01/11/2026 12:13

Warburton's toastie bread has definitely changed for the worst...the crumpets and tea cakes however are food of the gods.

Warburtons has such a horrible, cheap feeling texture to it 🤢
