to be shocked at a mother feeding her 7 and 4 year old DS's yoghurt with a spoon?

Franco-American mother I know a little - her DSs are at the same school as my daughter. They were having a picnic lunch in the park yesterday and she fed them each a yoghurt (in its entirety) with a spoon.

Family meetings. I find that weirder than spoon feeding a 4 yr old!

Desiderata · 02/07/2008 14:32

I'm firmly on the side of those who think it's weird.

It's weirdly weird. You know, the more you type that word, the wronger it looks.

Anyhow, the woman's obviously a loon, and I for one will look forward to Anna's next instalments

SixSpotBurnet · 02/07/2008 14:32

It makes me feel rather depressed that you have chosen to start a whole thread about this Anna.

Only because DS3, who is nearly 4, has autism but unless you knew your way around autism, you probably wouldn't realise it from seeing him - but I feed him virtually all his meals with a spoon.

Yogurt is the exception, funnily enough - he will feed himself his yogurt.

But you have just confirmed for me that people will be doing the judge judge thing about me whenever they see us out in public.

So thanks. Not.

eddiejo · 02/07/2008 14:39

You're right sixspotburnet. My ds5 has an EGID (gastro ) condition in which he feels full after two mouthfuls etc so have also fed him reg. or he doesn't grow!
I wouldn't have cared less whether she fed them or not. Worse things happen!

And.... weird - what happened to the i before c except after c?????????

Kewcumber · 02/07/2008 14:40

I think Anna knows these poeple albeit distantly.

I rarely judge people I don't know in case there are reasons why they do things.

I do judge where I know it is because they are wierd (looks much better that way).

notwavingjustironing · 02/07/2008 14:40

See, this is where MN is full of gems. I didn't bother opening the thread at 13.04 as I thought it sounded dull and that no-one would give a toss. How wrong could I be.....

Swedes · 02/07/2008 14:43

Perhaps they didn't want to chip their nailvarnish and said in French of course but I'll translate for the plebs on this thread. "Maman, please would you mind feeding us the yoghourts? It would be a shame to spoil our immaculate fingernails after those french manicures you made us have this morning."

Anna8888 · 02/07/2008 14:44

They are boys, Swedes, and very tall and muscular for their age - big and boisterous looking until they stood in front of their mother like birds in a nest

I still spooonfeed my 3 yr old sometimes, when he's having a 'baby' moment. So what? Kids are being breatsfed at the age of 5 or 6 on some parts of the worlds. Wind your necks in you nosey lot!

eddiejo · 02/07/2008 14:46

I'd probably feed them too!!!!!!!!!!!
(mum to two yummy boys!)

hunkermunker · 02/07/2008 14:47

DS1 feeds me yoghurt.

Is that weird? I just can't manage it without getting it all down myself.

Desiderata · 02/07/2008 14:48

lol, will you lot stop being so santimonious!

What on earth would we talk about on here if judging wasn't allowed?

eddiejo · 02/07/2008 14:48

me too ...lol

LadyOfTheFlowers · 02/07/2008 14:50

Have I missed something here?
I would have probably fed my kids a yoghurt too if I was out and didn't want them all plastered in it.

love2sleep · 02/07/2008 14:50

Good thinking hunker. Wouldn't want you to be judged for having yogurt all down your front.

sadiemm2 · 02/07/2008 14:52

just be glad it was only yoghurt, when I venture in to T'big City from my rural idyll I am shocked and appalled to see people feeding their children non organic food...and OMG eating in fast food resturants...pass the smelling salts.....call social services I just saw a child with coke in a sippy cup...(sniggers)

hunkermunker · 02/07/2008 14:56

He pretends to be a train too, you know, choof, choof, here comes the train, where's the tunnel...

sadiemm2 · 02/07/2008 14:58

I do that to my other half, when he won't eat his vegegtables.....he doesn'tfind it funny!!

onebatmother · 02/07/2008 14:59

Lol Swedes. Actually, I was there, in Paree, on a mini-break, and I can confirm that what was actually said was
Chere maman, let's have a bonne laugh avec cette madame Anglaise.

After you have fed us les petits filous, you will change my nappy, non? I have been wearing it all morning in the hope of bumping into her, and - VOILA! - here she is, avec son facons jugeants et son trop much temps on her mains.

squeaver · 02/07/2008 15:00

Bloody hell! This thread is bonkers!

IorekByrnison · 02/07/2008 15:01

Snort my tea at onebatmaman and swedes!

Boco · 02/07/2008 15:07

I don't think that feeding them a yoghurt means they're not being brought up to be independent. I don't think it covers all that.

Yesterday in the park my friend was joking that my 3 year old would move into her own flat by next year, and have a job, and pop in at the weekends to see if we're ok, because she's TOO independent. She'd taken herself off to have a separate picnic under her own tree and asked if we'd not bother her.

However, sometimes, because she's a pita at eating and takes hours and is always too busy - I pin her down and feed her a yoghurt.

Page62 · 02/07/2008 15:25

seriously, this is an issue?

this was a bit of light relief given the stock market today - Taylor Wimpey halved, Marks and Spencer down 23% and Barratt Homes off 30%..............

Swedes · 02/07/2008 15:29

God Mini-break - that is another cliche I loathe. Sorry it's the wrong thread.

bozza · 02/07/2008 15:34

I think it is bizarre. Although in my case it would make infinitely more sense to spoon feed the 7yo than the 4yo as he is much messier than she is. And this has been the case for some time.

And actually Anna she has been using a knife and fork (although obviously not for yoghurt!) since she was 3.
