Do you still think?

I mean really sit and think? And I don't mean worry

I remember before Dc and many years ago, spending time lying on the bed on a summer day or rainy, winter day, simply listening to music and thinking. Thinking about my past, childhood, friends, old romances. Wondering and dreaming about my future.,,

Does anyone actually still do this? I miss it

I don't know whether it's kids, less time or phones...but I don't do it anymore, even at night, I'm basically on my phone before I fall asleep.

Can't be good

I think when I'm in the shower or doing the washing up or walking/driving (if not listening to something).

I drive to think. There are whole stretches of the North Circular that I don't remember even being on because I was on autopilot and thinking about other things.

All the time. I live alone though and I do think that makes a difference. I don't just naval gaze and think about me ; I also wonder about the world; how things work, other beings, nature, science, language, art, history....

I'm not saying I am knowledgable or smart... i just wonder and think and have lots of questions

I used to think a lot when I was riding my horse. Just plodding along around the bridlepaths and letting my mind wander. Often sorted out problems or made decisions about things.

I haven’t ridden for some years now and my time to think is when I go to bed, I read for a while and then just lay there thinking.

Yes, a lot. When I'm walking, when I'm cleaning at work or home, when I'm in the allotment, when I'm knitting.

Yes. One of my favourite ways to chill out is to put some music on and just have a good think!

Yes. I like to go to gigs alone and get my best thinking done waiting for bands to come on. I also meditate which is a weird sister of thinking. You have to find a space for it. It’s so valuable.

All of my best thinking is done in an unreasonably hot bath

Simonjt · Yesterday 19:48

Yes I do, today I was thinking about egg boxes, some are that weird reformed cardboard and others are folded cardboard. So I was wondering which one had greater strength, and which one better ‘insulated’ against bumps etc.

This is a great question OP. I wonder about this when I’m on the train. That must have been thinking time for a lot of people before smartphones, just staring out of the window, even with a Walkman on. Top thinking time.

Funny, thinking about it I actually find it quite hard to be on my phone on the bus or train. Something about my attention being absorbed by my phone in public makes me too anxious. I prefer to be aware of my surroundings. Not in a particularly anxious way, I just feel I should be alert. Same with walking to buy lunch during a work day. I see colleagues with their head down in a phone or earphones in and it just feels really unnatural to me.

I am, however, on my phone 90% of my time in my house 🙈.

Shower thinking is the best part of my day.

NotAnotherScarf · Yesterday 19:51

Yes I used to take long walks and think when I worked in an office. Then as a gardener I worked alone and would regularly turn off the radio and "go inside my head". Now I do mindless tasks like ironing or go for long cycle rides

Yes, often, lots of time to think in farming. Much less so with the kids in tow these days but still. I never mull things over half as much as when I’m in the tractor, ploughing or similar, it’s all the repetitive up and down back and forth!
