Do you still think?

I mean really sit and think? And I don't mean worry

I remember before Dc and many years ago, spending time lying on the bed on a summer day or rainy, winter day, simply listening to music and thinking. Thinking about my past, childhood, friends, old romances. Wondering and dreaming about my future.,,

Does anyone actually still do this? I miss it

I don't know whether it's kids, less time or phones...but I don't do it anymore, even at night, I'm basically on my phone before I fall asleep.

Can't be good

Yes, when I go out running - I don't listen to music or anything. I do tend to listen to podcasts when I go out walking but I often realise I've missed huge chunks because I'm thinking about something else.

I don't really reminisce or dream about my future, it's more turning things over in my mind but not in a rumination or worrying, anxious way.

Whyarepeople · Yesterday 15:29

Yes, I do, usually at night, though I often fall asleep before I can think as much as I'd like to.

You could always set aside some thinking time during the day - it may take a while for you to get the hang of it but it'll come back to you.

Isittimeformynapyet · Yesterday 15:32

Yes, I'm very, very thinky indeed.

Eatingdirt · Yesterday 15:32

If you are on your phone, that is taking up your thinking time.

I am insanely busy but am still thinking about things all the time. Bedtime is my quiet thinking time before I go to sleep.

LibertyBustop · Yesterday 15:34

Yes, when exercising or when commuting.

CousinBette · Yesterday 15:35

This is a great question OP. I wonder about this when I’m on the train. That must have been thinking time for a lot of people before smartphones, just staring out of the window, even with a Walkman on. Top thinking time.

Springtimeinsunshine · Yesterday 15:39

Yes I still do. Had a barren patch when the children were younger but once they reached teen years and understood not to bother me I put the headphones on, listened to music and had thoughts again. You will too.

Madam2Swords · Yesterday 15:41

I'll ask ChatGPT and get back to you.

hellospring26 · Yesterday 15:59

No. I don’t read actual books in the way I used to either.

rollyto · Yesterday 16:00

Yes when I walk or swim

EmpressaurusKitty · Yesterday 16:01

When I go for walks, mainly.

BG2015 · Yesterday 16:02

Yes during my morning swim. I look at the pool clock and 15 minutes have passed by.

Createausername1970 · Yesterday 16:06

To much scrolling. I am trying to cut back on picking up the phone in the evenings. I have started to put it on charge in the kitchen when I start cooking dinner - and leave it there for the rest of the evening.

I got fed up of not following TV programmes properly or not reading or not doing jigsaws etc. So much of my life was being sucked away by my phone.

........she says, on her phone!

I'm the same when I'm running or swimming, no phone with me. At the gym I'm too busy to think as I'm focused on gym twats 🙃

I sea swim in the summer, all of my best thinking is done when I'm away from the shore. Although I do get distracted by all the different nationalities and their unique swimming styles 🧐

Do you still think?

Nah, I stopped when I realised navel-gazing was all a bit pointless and self-indulgent, so now the only thing I use my brain for is maintaining autonomic function. Trying to train it do that I can get boring stuff like grocery shopping done without even being consciously aware I'm in some hellhole supermarket.

Flamingojune · Yesterday 16:13

Yes too much

Sahara123 · Yesterday 16:18

I never stop flipping thinking, any ideas how to stop !
Yes, I do yoga , meditation and mindfulness, I just find it so hard to switch off my brain!

There's a good post going at the moment called help me be more analogue.

DramaAlpaca · Yesterday 16:22

Yes I do. Chronic overthinker here.

DeftGoldHedgehog · Yesterday 16:30

Yes I do, but I try to not lie there thinking at night otherwise I won't sleep.

My phone actually really helps as I can play a game, read a book or listen to an audiobook and either really helps me to fall asleep.

DurhamDurham · Yesterday 16:32

I’m great at thinking. Probably nothing of note to other people but I do love a good think.

TheeNotoriousPIG · Yesterday 16:40

I'm also a chronic over-thinker. My brain never shuts up (which might be why it's so hard to fall asleep every night...), but I also work on my own most of the time, and I've always maintained that you have to find something more than what's for dinner to think about!

leparoo · Yesterday 16:45

Isn't it like James Joyce's "stream of consciousness". You know, all kinds of things come into your head and one thing leads to another, but none of it makes much sense!

But yes, I do think about things, and very similar to a pp, it happens when I am listening to an audiobook, but miss lots of it because the "stream" has taken over!

Girlwithavibe · Yesterday 16:48

I'm a thinker not past reminiscing thou and not overthinking over analysing anything !
I think about people about creative things about organising and the world all sorts of things I think about !
I don't do social media so I'm not filling my head full of mindless crap so I have plenty of time to think about everything I love it !
