To ask for a virtual hug

My dad passed away on Monday. Although he’d been ill for a while, I never expected him to go as quickly as he did. He’d had his tea and we were chatting away as normal, then within the space of about three minutes, he seemed to get so confused. It was like someone had flicked a switch. He then fell asleep and never woke up again. I just can’t get my head around how it all happened so quickly. I just don’t understand it.

DontLiveByTheClouds · 28/10/2026 20:33

I am so sorry. What a bloody awful shock for you all. I hope it can, in time, become a comfort that it was so quick and apparently peaceful and he didn't know anything about it.

Letstryandgetitright · 28/10/2026 20:33

Oh love, what am awful shock, it just sends you spinning. Sending you the biggest cwtch in the world (they are better than hugs, believe me), it's not fair, it's so tough and we're here if you need to talk about anything. Double cwtch in fact.

Crackingonandon · 28/10/2026 20:35

Sending love and a virtual hug. ❤️💪

I lost my DH unexpectedly and it’s such a shock. I’ve also lost my dad, after a short illness and that was also a shock. It’s impossible to get your head around what’s happened.

I’m so sorry for your loss. 💐

Agatha1989 · 28/10/2026 20:36

Sending you love and light xxx

Zuve · 28/10/2026 20:36

Sending love and a big hug. My dad went that way. He suffers no more

Saturdaysfairies · 28/10/2026 20:41

Lots of love. It's so hard and difficult time to go through.

Apricotsocks · 28/10/2026 20:41

It is somewhat of a comfort that it was so quick, and i hope it was painless. I just can't get my head around how quick the change was. From chatting completely normally to being dazed and confused, to asleep, to gone.

This just shows your lovely nature, you are thinking of how it was for him first and foremost, and you're right because it's much better to be quick and painless. But your shock is equally important and that's the world you are living in for the moment, shock gets into all the parts of your body and takes time to dissipate, you're living in a bit of a limbo land at the moment where you know logically what has happened, but the rest of your body is taking time to catch up. How are you doing tonight? Can we do anything?

NimbleTaupeTiger · 28/10/2026 20:52

Sending hugs

🤗🤗🤗🤗

lots & lots of hugs.

what a massive shock for you. That's a lot to get your head around.

But honestly what a fabulous way to go. Dinner and a chat with your daughter, and fall asleep and just not wake up again. I think it's what most of us would choose if we could. Try to take some comfort from the fact that he didn't suffer with his illness any longer and didn't suffer at the end.

I lost my dad suddenly too. I had had breakfast with him and he seemed totally fit and healthy, but instead of my dad coming home later that day, I got two policeman knocking on the door. He was only 65

Personally, I wouldn't say I've ever got over it, but you do learn to live alongside it 💕💕🤗

Im so sad and confused. Obviously he wasnt well, but honeslty looking at him and talking to him, you wouldn't have thought he was ill, and certainly not hours away from passing.

Hugs from me. Such a hard time for you, I hope you have a friend around in case you need to talk. Message if you want my support.

Pudmyboy · 28/10/2026 21:07

Sending hugs too🫂

BlueMum16 · 28/10/2026 21:11

Sending hugs and I'm so sorry for you loss.

I lost my dad through an accident. He went to work and didn't come home. From my experience take time to accept what has happened. You will be on autopilot of planning and preparing without taking time to reflect and eventually grieve.

Do you have friends and family around?

Sending hugs.
