my post should read how rubbish is this budget!

So I will only get a state pension and income from an investment property for my retirement ( monies from an inheritance ) as I have looked after my disabled son. So the Gov have gone against me as ever.

But have they gone against the extremely wealthy or huge corporates that exercise price transfer re tax tax or use franchises/ loan agreements etc to legally avoid tax?

Nope.

I actually loathe this government now. They always shield the wealthy and go for the middle classes. Those with a bit of bank interest or a single asset let’s tax that more - easy pickings.

33 billion a year

But the Gov just squeeze the middle classes more - it’s easier and they are cowards or can’t draft the legislation

I was hoping for something stamp duty relief related.

Can you explain this? My neighbour was pushed out of her house this month by a dodgy landlord who has decided to sell up to avoid being placed on the landlord register. Why are landlords afraid of this?

It might be like rent smart Wales. The courses the landlords have to undertake which aren't easy unless you're working in housing or organisation that handles rentals. It's expensive too and you're bombarded with every change they can think of which means writing to your tenants each time amendment to rental contracts which have to be signed and agreed to.

It means if the landlord needs to sell it takes six months notice. You have to evict so solicitors costs of around 4k. The tenant who you may like has the stress of being homeless because that's the only way that the council or housing association will consider helping you.

Both landlords and tenants are in an invidious position. Cheap properties are selling so fast before they're even marketed or viewed by the big boys both UK and overseas investors. UAE, Germany, Netherlands are cleaning up.

Oh the irony of someone who is wealthy enough to own an investment property and talks about being able to invest abroad and 5% of said investment being enough to live on annually complaining about having to pay tax.

The OP sounds positively loaded.

I do not complain about having to pay tax - I complain about having to pay more tax when nothing is done about the multinationals not paying their fair share.

This seems unfair and frankly cowardly of the government. They go for the easy trapped targets.
They know that land/ property is less flexible.
Also they don’t care about long term damage which all this will cause.

People are increasingly working out exit routes if they can access other passports. If so, there will be a combined capital flight risk.

So having thought about it I have realised that a lot of people who might have voted Labour won’t. They have attacked some of their own without thinking it through.

In particular it’s those who had small work place pensions ( not public sector and before compulsory company pensions were brought in so in their 60s) They might have got a small inheritance and bought a flat to rent out having for example previously worked as a carer on minimum wage or in Tescos.

The Gov is composed of lots of people with juicy public sector pensions so have no idea.

It would have been fairer to have introduced a sliding scale of tax increases on landlords - although the larger ones are incorporated so still paying corporation tax at 19% - that’s the point - they have gone after the small non professional landlords.

Income is taxable. Whether you get your income from working or renting out a second home, it's still income and no more deserving of not being taxed than any other income.

Many people don't own one properly let alone a second one which is let to provide additional income.
