What is it about testing for covid specifically that seems to wind people up?
AIBU to find it really odd? People don’t seem to have the same reaction to any other test.

YABU - it is not odd to be wound up because another person does a covid test

The idea that if you can't get 100% perfection there's no point doing anything at all is a convenient excuse for doing nothing, but it doesn't actually make sense.

It's basically saying - well if I'm going to pass this virus on to one person I can't avoid seeing, then I might as well make no effort at all to be careful and just pass it on to lots of people.

I can understand people feeling that if they test and it's positive then their conscience (or people around them) will tell them they ought to stay away from everything 100% for several days, and they really really don't want to have to do that. Plausible deniability through not testing is much more comfortable, especially when you've got a lot of FOMO.

Perhaps we should normalize imperfect precautions. It's OK to test, find out you have covid or flu, and then still not be able to stay at home 100% of the time. Staying at home most of the time is an improvement, popping a mask on in a busy shop and so on. The end result of that will be less illness spread round, so it's a win, even if it's not perfect.

Do you not realise other viruses could make them seriously unwell too? You should just stay away when you are ill.

Of course I know that they can become seriously unwell from other viruses. I don’t go anywhere near them if I’m not well, but I think it’s fair for everyone to know if I have Covid or not.
