Nicola Peltz is entitled to call herself Nicola Beckham

I’ve just seen that Victoria Beckham was furious when Nicola Peltz Beckham was introduced at the Venice Film Festival as Nicola Beckham, but surely that’s unreasonable? She’s entitled to use her married name, isn’t she?

I think you are BU in buying into this manufactured drama, that every one involved is getting publicity and ultimately money from.

Exactly. It is all false.

Victoria Beckham trademarked her kids names and they need her permission to use them for commercial ventures. So I can well believe she’s upset at someone else stepping up to be a beckham, and trying to build that identity

Yes, IF she was "furious" this will be why. Apparently when Brooklyn became an adult he was legally entitled to the trademark of his name and his parents were annoyed he wouldn't sign it back over to them as part of the family brand. (No idea if this is wholly or even partly true.)

But if she is cross, that's just silly. A woman can use her husband's surname if she wants, after all, VB did! Legally anyone can call themselves what they want (in the UK and US at least) as long as its not for fraudulent purposes. I could change my name to Honeylulu Beckham right now if I wanted to.

When my husband got divorced from his first wife she kept the married surname and MIL was furious about that. But ExW was perfectly entitled to it. It didn't prevent MIL from using it so no idea why it was an issue. I've never used my married surname and MIL was furious about that too, go figure. I thought it was funny that my husband had an ex wife called Mrs Husband and a current wife called Miss Myname.

Was she furious did she tell you how furious she was?

She told me.

Livid she was.

Frothing at the mouth.

Was it Kylie Jenner who wanted to trademark ’Kylie’ but Kylie Minogue kicked up a (fairly minor) stink and told her not to be ridiculous given Kylie was a somewhat popular name? There are surely more Beckhams in the world so Victoria will not be successful trying to limit who can use the name, particularly when her son has married and legally his wife can use his name like any other wife (or husband, looking at a mate who took his husband’s surname).

Totally by the by, but the football club Peterborough United have been known as the POSH since 1921:

In 1921 the manager of Fletton United was quoted as saying he was looking for Posh players to form a Posh team, by Posh he meant good, and it stuck from that. Before that Fletton United were known as the Brickies or Claydobbers due to the brickworks in the area. - From the club's website. The term The POSH started being used in 1934, same source.

When the Spice Girls got really big and Victoria was known to all and sundry, she tried to stop the club renewing the trademark for that name. Lawyers were involved and she argued that everyone associated Posh with her. Names matter to Posh!

Hard agree on everything. You sound way too level headed and sensible for MN!

I’ve seen the batshit threads where women get annoyed that their partner’s ex still uses their married surname.

I thought they'd made a big deal about being Peltz Beckham so I can imagine an eyeroll if she's decided to rebrand herself as just Beckham.

Gossip mag - Heat. I’m at the hairdressers!

I remember reading a story in Heat once that showed some famous couple apparently arguing walking down the street. Another mag I read showed the same pic and apparently they were talking/laughing/singing - actually, I don't remember what, but completely different story. As someone who has no particular warmth to any of the Beckham clan, I wouldn't believe any of the mags to be honest!

This whole "oh don't speak to me, use my lawyers ","I'm furious she used Beckham " is brilliant marketing to keep the Beckham name in the public and sell product.

Remember poor Jade Goody. Uneducated, ill informed, slightly racist Jade. Who was made for the tabloids and gossip mags...the marketing machine got hold and she's got perfume, clothes etc. Sadly for them, she died and I can't remember the last product of hers I've seen on the shelves

Tend to agree with you about the marketing stuff, celebrity brands are fragile, and the Beckham name isn’t immune but the Jade Goody comparison isn't a great one I think. Jade's products disappearing was about a short burst of fame with nothing else underneath it, which isn’t really the Beckhams’ situation, because of the longevity/'embededness' of both of their careers.David was one of the most famous footballers in the world, and Victoria was in one of the biggest-selling girl groups ever, before her fashion career. The endorsements and products came after decades of achievement and global recognition, not instead of it.

I mean...brookyn has made it his mission to move away from the whole family, not associate with them etc and disapproves of their "brand" (now he doesnt need it) so no i dont think either of them should feel entitled to use it. Dont want to be part of the family/brand dont use it

Since when has a surname been a brand?

It’s his name, he should be able to use it for whatever he wants. He didn’t ask to be born.

How she got in the Spice Girls is amazing. Utterly pointless women.

Did you think they were all selected because they were the greatest voices of the age?

Victoria Adams said what? I bet David's mum is furious still that Victoria took her surname.
What a load of cobblers.

Off topic, but I loved Jade’s perfume. Would love it if it was brought back but zero chance.

It was the exact same blend as the little mix one in 2015 and if you look into it, it probably the same as a number of perfumes that celebs have put thier face too.

I only know this as my ex SIL used to work in the industry - most are just generic to save time and money.

Totally agree. . No talent just picked by men who wanted to put a girl band together and make money.
Just lucky to be picked Nothing special at all. Certainly was anything to do with the singing.

But Jade could have another Ryland or Josie. Or even a Katie Price

Clever marketing and use of her kids/her maturing. Could have kept her brand going for years.

Flame is fleeting outside of the uk. The American rock and roll singer Little Richard once said "I love England, once you're a star in England you're always a star ". About that time Roy Orbison didn't even have a record contract and was playing state fairs and car meetings.

The Beckhams know they have to keep their name in the headlines. I bet they're gutted the boys are shit at football
