What is going on with Andy Burnham's social media?

I swear every post I see is following a formula:

  • personal anecdote
  • link to current issue
  • why this means I understand you
  • how I'm going to change the world
  • join us in doing so

The way they are written makes me cringe. Almost poetic and overly emotive. Maybe it just doesnt work on me.

Anyone else just want some normal?

I didn’t bring up Kemi, Eastern or others did. I think we’re over it now anyway. The discussion trailed off.

And you keep replying to my posts about Kemi!

You tagged me in the last one! Did you mean to tag @EasternStandard

If so, ignore my comment.

Anyway, I fear we’re digressing now.

What do you think the budget under AB will be like?

Well you picked up the post and did the search and screenshot.

But you’re incorrect on why you’re seeing what you did. It won’t be KB pushing it but IG based on activity.

hedgeknight · 21/10/2026 13:18

Both Burnham and Badenoch use Social Media to communicate with voters, only Burnham uses tiktok. Is that the issue some posters are referring to?

Badenoch's support of Trump is a well known fact.

My point was that I wasn’t closely following KB as you suggested. Or scrolling down to her photos from 2024. I only looked her name up on Insta today. And I certainly will not be giving her a follow.

Plus she switches off comments on some posts (like the Trump one) so she can’t be getting lots of positive comments.

Idk why you got such out of date suggestions. Your algorithm probably does know you well as you interacted and screenshot on to another platform.

But Kemi is expressing heartfelt admiration for Trump, who in turn is in Putin's pocket. Isn't that the issue, rather than Nomas' algorithm?

What do you think the budget under AB will be like?

Low on creativity, high on taxation, low on value for taxpayers, and bad for productivity and growth. The wealthy will lose a little, the middle a lot. Low-paid workers will continue to get squeezed but will be given the odd crumbs, and the unproductive (excluding the disabled) will continue to be allowed to fail, funded by the taxpayer. Lots of tinkering, but no real substance or structural change.

As much as I have no faith in Labour, I would love to be pleasantly surprised. But unfortunately, in spite of raising record levels of tax, Labour is out of money, so it will be looking for every which way it can to extract it from those who have managed their wages well and are easy to get at - which won't be the wealthy or the greedier corporates.

What do you think it will be?

Happy to look at your source if you have a better one.

🙄Pitiful. The wartime government commissioned Beveridge to write the report. The White paper was published by the conservatives, as a response to addressing findings of the Beveridge report. Labour won the election after the war and Bevan et al used the Conservatives white paper ideas for their 1948 NHS introduction. Basic history. I suggest you can find it online.

Latest Facebook post from Andy

<<It just doesn’t make sense to only import oil and gas from abroad, when we could be considering the responsible use of our own resources here at home.

You will have seen that the Energy Secretary has today given the green light to the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea.

I know some of you will have concerns and questions, so I wanted to address them directly.

The Jackdaw decision will boost our energy security, protect British jobs, add £3 billion to our economy and heat homes across the country – starting this winter.

The Iran war has triggered global energy shocks, pushing up bills for families.

At a time when people are really struggling, it's right that we look at the existing energy reserves we have in Britain that could help.

But I want to reassure you that my government remains committed to the green transition.

And that the decision today is consistent with our climate targets and our manifesto.

The truth is, that even with our ambitious net-zero goals, we will still need oil and gas for decades to come.

That’s why we’re taking a common sense approach.

We’re also announcing today a new Energy Wealth Fund, that will use future tax revenues from North Sea oil and gas to invest in clean energy and the green transition.

As Prime Minister, I’ve ensured that we have two key aims when it comes to energy: reducing gas bills and reducing electricity bills.

And today we’re announcing new measures to help with both.

On gas - I’ve asked the Chancellor and Energy Secretary to look at removing standing charges from gas bills at the earliest opportunity.

And on electricity - we will now use the new Energy Wealth Fund to boost investment in renewable energy.

This will enable us to substantially delink gas and electricity prices by the end of this Parliament, helping to bring down bills in the long-term.

This is all part of the fundamental changes we’re making to reduce energy costs over the next 10 years.

Our energy system has been failing our people and our businesses for far too long.

I’m determined to fix that, with greater public control and a common sense approach to the North Sea.

Because this is how we can:

Maximise our energy security.

Back hundreds of thousands of British workers.

Ring-fence future North Sea proceeds to speed up the green transition.

Hit our ambitious climate targets.

And - crucially – bring down bills for good.>>

Oh me too - in this case 100%. It's just that well, a lot of em aren't. Oh well.

GodDamnitDonut · 21/10/2026 23:19

He’s going to run out of family members to reference soon. I’m sure he’ll move on to imaginary friends, fake neighbours and distant cousins when that happens so he can pull on our emotional strings.
He is the biggest populist of them all and people are lapping it up.

I’ve been mentioning this on some of the Labour/ Greens posts and they go a bit quiet when I mention the possibility of running out of gas this winter.

It wouldn’t be just homes, it would be hospitals, schools, shops, offices, factories.

keepswimming38 · 22/10/2026 01:25

Honestly, he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. Some people are never happy!

Well it's no wonder. It doesn't matter what topic it is, once a thread is reduced two a few members arguing, rather than discussion, people tend to wander off. Well, I know I do.

Oh they'll argue til the cows come home if they think they have a point (on and on and on and on and..) . As soon as they're snookered / proved wrong, they go silent, no recognition of how wrong they were, naturally. As we can see above.

GoodLordMother · 22/10/2026 09:01

I really like his style and his social media posts. A politician I can understand and talks and communicates in a relatable way, and shares his own experiences. The odd one is a bit cringe and the petrol one was ridiculous as it's not up to date. But I like them and I like him. Go Burnham!

That can be said of people of every political persuasion. Fuck me, how tired did we get of Brexit.

Burnham's brand of populism may be a bit twee sometimes, but it is harmless. He's not directing hate towards other groups and stirring up violence.

You think? It’s certainly tougher than when Starmer - remember him? - was leading us to a glorious future, ending the chaos and smashing the gangs.

But there are still plenty of laughs to be had at the new PM. In fact he’s shaping up to be comedy gold: a cross between Dave Spart, Norman Wisdom and Mavis Wilton.
