Would I have any chance of getting PIP while pregnant?

Hi everyone, I’m just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation or has any advice. I’ve heard that it can be difficult to be awarded PIP while pregnant because some people see pregnancy related difficulties as temporary, but I’m struggling quite badly with anxiety and depression and have been referred to the prenatal mental health team.
On top of that, I’m suffering from severe pelvic pain, to the point where I have to lie down after sitting for around 10 minutes.

Mentally, I feel completely exhausted and overwhelmed, and even the simplest everyday tasks take me forever to get done. My husband does most of the cooking before he goes to work because I struggle to manage everything myself. I’m also worried about how PIP would view my situation, as I’ll soon have a newborn as well as a toddler to look after. Would they hold that against me and assume I’m coping because I have children to care for, even though I’m genuinely struggling both physically and mentally? I’m not expecting anything I’m not entitled to, but I was wondering whether I might have a chance of being awarded the standard rate of PIP?

I heard also on FB forums that it’s extremely difficult to get PIP, has anyone got it after going birth?

Thanks

It really isnt 🙄

I’ve seen the forms. I’ve seen the breakdown of the conditions causing a rise in claims. It absolutely is.

One case that stands out in my mind was when a PIP assessor contradicted something said on the claimants’ work capability assessment report, because they had misinterpreted a piece of medical evidence the claimant had submitted for both assessments.

When I helped with a PIP claim, the assessor was horrified that I had the copy of the claim document. Which was made worse because I had a spare copy for her. She had to state that not only did assessors not have access to the actual claim document - they weren't allowed to see it during the assessment. They glowered at me during the assessment as I read off the document and they had to write it down verbatim. They also didn't like that I had separately sent a copy to the decision maker.

Where can I get help with my claim as in someone to support and guide me with the application. Thanks

I think everyone should just grey rock now. For everyone’s sake.

OP you need sertraline and talking therapy, not PIP. You’re wrecked because you have a baby and you’re pregnant with another.

Why you’d get pregnant again so quickly when you’re struggling after the first one is beyond me.

I’m pretty shocked by this thread. My DM has epilepsy and lupus and has never claimed for either, even when she’s been incredibly ill. She worked part time for 25 years after having DC, even though she was physically on her knees.

PIP isn’t an out of work benefit, as you say, but in my experience claiming PIP successfully is more difficult if you are working, as assessors will inevitably use elements of your working life to try to disprove the help needed in assessed daily living areas and mobility.

With my case, they can use my toddler and newborn against me and argue that if you are capable of looking after them, then surely you are capable of looking after yourself. I mean the standard rate isn’t even that much so I don’t understand why they’re being snobby.

Thank you

This confirms that you are absolutely taking the piss and trying to wind people up.

I've got a bit lost at your employment situation. Did you say you'd been self employed? And have you worked at all since you had your first baby? I couldn't quite follow but sounded like you'd done some self employed supply work between but couldn't do much. Or were you with an agency? Maternity allowance for self employed people and agency workers is fairly generous and you're baby is due soon so I'm confused as to what's driving your need for PIP?

Or have you just not managed to work between and now realised you won't be getting very much maternity support from the government? Because PIP isn't a substitute for maternity pay or allowance...

I'd be concerned about SS involvement if you tell them you have to lie down after sitting for 10 minutes.

I know you keep ignoring the question, but how do you look after your toddler all day?

Interesting, hard to dress with wasted muscles but was denied so I do wonder what people are saying on the application

Well for example my son is severly autistic with severe learning disabillities
He will stand under a shower but i have to wash him left to his own devices he would pour the soap down the sink or empty the entire bottle on head
He can dress himself of a fashion but has no concept if they are back to front or inside out or even clean
With a,lot of supervisoon he can just about manage to butter a slice of toast ,he hasent a clue about cooking and will try to eat dried pssta ,rice ,frozen food wtc
You need 12 points for the care componant
I stopped counting at 55.

This is such a weird take on it.

If every single thread which somewhat justifies people’s complaints about piss takers is immediately labelled ‘rage bait’, then piss takers just don’t exist in your view?

Far from it. I've been on here nearly 2 decades so v familiar with the MN flow. There've been discussions lately about the rise in dodgy threads (engagement farming or somesuch) and since then it seems like there's more extreme cases that feel that way, as indicated by the voting.

I mean… they have a point, no? If you’re fit enough to look after 2 children, that shows you’re able to move around independently and do home tasks that need doing. I don’t understand what do you want the PIP for exactly.

And this is why the world we currently live in is an absolute joke!
Teenagers and toddlers can get it for anxiety .
And u have a condition like this absolutely ridiculous and downright piss take
And people like op Obviously pregnant continuous for 2 pregnancies is why she has pelvic pain !!
entitled springs to mind !!
I have psoriatic arthritis axial spondyarthris and have just been now told I have a severe bulge in my c5 C6 neck joint and I am struggling to get dressed and drive my car I have never thought about applying for pip because there are people worse of than me !!!

Toddlers can't get PIP as that is for adults. DLA is for children with disabilities and that isn't easy to get. Stop reading the daily mail.

Thank you

You don’t need a diagnosis or to be on meds for a condition to claim PIP. You must have had the symptoms for at least three months before you apply and they must be expected to last at least another nine months from the date of application. So although you don’t need an actual diagnosis you would need medical evidence to support your claim that you actually have the symptoms and the likely duration. Without it you’re at the mercy of the DWP assessor who would then decide, on the balance of probability, whether what you’re saying is reasonable.

When you apply for PIP the first stage is a phone call to check eligibility - including that you have had the condition for at least three months and it’s expected to last at least another nine months. If it’s pregnancy related l doubt you would get past the phone call to be honest. And I’m increasingly getting the impression you’re using this thread for information for your application.

DontBuyAnotherBook · 20/10/2026 11:50

I am severely hard of hearing with hearing aids. A lifelong disability. Doubt I can get PIP.

You can be awarded PIP for profound hearing loss if you can demonstrate it causes safety issues with the activities assessed.

DontBuyAnotherBook · 20/10/2026 11:52

Sounds like you are just trying to get some income in because you haven't any maternity pay.

Because it’s like Mount Everest for some. Just because it’s there.

Interesting. I was unable to hear a smoke alarm a few months ago. I will have a look.

Well…why are you not seeking medical help and have your affliction properly diagnosed, if you seriously believe it is so seriously impinging on your capabilities?
Isn’t it the obvious first step, even if you boggle at filling in forms to access funding? You can’t expect public servants to disburse allowances just because you reckon it’d make you feel better.
What would you use the PIP for, and how is available medical treatment not sufficient? Etc.

Making a case where a medical issue is the whole point should be supported by a medical professional, I’d have thought.

You won’t get pip. I have stage 4 cancer and can’t get it. My husband does all the cooking, cleaning and shopping, and I rarely leave the house, but I’m not entitled.

I think that's disgusting you can't claim.

Yep. The thread is an information gathering exercise for an application. Which will fall at the first hurdle - the eligibility phone call.

Please, for the love of God, realise that the claim is the claim. Until you have put it in no one can say if it will be awared.

Someone who says "I won't get" without actually putting a claim in is being disingenuous at the very least.

Snobby? WTF?

Ridiculous isn’t it ? The payment is irrelevant, it’s that OP wants to apply for a benefit which supports long term disability and which is clearly not meant for her circumstances. There was a thread here a while back from a mum who didn’t see why she couldn’t use a blue badge parking space when the parent and child spaces were full. I though the level of entitlement was off the charts until l read this !!
