To ask if this means my flight is going to be cancelled?!

I’m travelling to Rome next month with easyJet. Out of the blue my flight home has been moved from 5pm to 8pm, I’ve not been offered the chance to move to another flight or a refund. I’ve been told that as the flight is running I have to stick with it.

Does this mean the flight will be cancelled? It being moved later isn’t an issue as I have a hotel at the airport for the night (I was landing too late for trains home), but now I’m worrying!

I’m nearly 40 and have never experienced this.

a delay on the day? Sure. A scheduled move in advance? No.

Ok but do you believe it happens or because it hasn’t happened to you you don’t believe it?

I just don’t understand why it’s been moved at such short notice, with no reason given.

You can turn up to the airport to find your plane has been delayed a few hours so I’d just take it as at least you know beforehand about the delay and can prep for it

I’ve never been hit by a bus before but I’m sure it’s happened to others out there

This happened to us with an easyjet flight recently. Got told at 8.30am that our 3pm flight that day had been cancelled and we had automatically been put on an 8pm flight instead. Never told us a reason.

Gravygranules · Yesterday 14:49

I've had it happen a couple of times - a flight last year was cancelled with 3 months notice as they had stopped the route so we booked with a different airline and that flight time was changed twice!

Teenawilko · Yesterday 14:57

Easyjet do this a lot. Charter flights - especially budget lines like WizzAir, Blue Bird, EasyJet etc are low on the priority list for scheduling. You can be in the plane on the tarmac and delayed 2 hours before taking off because another airline has been pushed in front or there’s high traffic etc.
Theres no reason to think it’s going to be cancelled unless you’re flying somewhere like Ukraine or the Middle East. They’ll keep you updated. It’s annoying and inconvenient but that’s the world of budget travel!

bababamama · Yesterday 15:05

It happens, I’ve had times move recently myself (for next summer). I’ve also had a move of airport even (east mids to Birmingham) plus change. Some count as minor changes and there’s nothing you can do, for major changes you can choose to accept the change or accept a refund, though for change of airport they often offer transport (I lived between east mids and Birmingham and was using cabs so wasn’t necessary).

a 3 hour change probably means a plane has gone out of service so they have rejigged the schedule for another plane to do extra sectors, or there were multiple flights and they have amalgamated 2.

Bearbookagainandagain · Yesterday 15:14

My assumption when they do this is that they had a 5 pm flight and a 8 pm flight, and there wasn't enough passengers one then so they combine them. But I could be wrong.

No, I believe it happens. What I can’t get behind is a lot of people on this thread basically calling the OP insane for being shocked by this.

I haven’t flown easyJet and similar airlines others ar renaming in 20 years though, maybe that’s why it’s never happened to me.

Quite, but that’s not even close to what I was saying.

It’s obviously not a conspiracy theory, but I can well believe why the OP is shocked by this.

Your comment read as though just because it hasn’t happened to you, you don’t think it happens

I've had this happen a couple of times - as pp's have said, sometimes it's so they can cancel two flights and amalgamate them. Or on one occasion they kicked me off a flight because they needed the space for a sports team and put me on a different one!

Ineedanewsofa · Yesterday 20:48

Defo an EasyJet “thing” for me, only flown with them twice to European cities and both times flight time has changed from original booking.
Never had it with Ryanair or any or the other cheapies, lots of delays though (looking at you, Jet2!)

Woollyguru · Yesterday 20:50

Why would you think it's being cancelled?

Xkk · Yesterday 20:58

It happened to me multiple times. Operational costs is one of the main reasons. Happened on last holiday as well, flew in half the seats empty, flew out with full plane. They combined the two. They don't have to give you a reason, it won't be canceled don't worry. I am very surprised you never experience this, I am far from frequent flier and I had at least 5 occasions when they rescheduled me. I think when you book you get a message to keep your eyes on the schedule and emails as it can change at any time.

Not offered a change as under 4 hours

BendingSpoons · Yesterday 22:09

We have an EasyJet holiday booked. Our flight home was around 2pm. They emailed about 3 months before and said we were moved to the 9pm flight as the 2pm was cancelled. We were offered a refund, as it was a more significant change. I looked about a week later and they had added in a 2:30pm flight. I called them and they moved us onto this one. It was a bit random to cancel the flight and then basically reinstate it 30 mins later, but no issue other than an admin phone call.

Full costs mean many flights are being cancelled. If your flight was less full, it makes sense financially to move people onto earlier/later flights and have e.g. 2 mostly full flights that day instead of 3.

I fly at least eight times a year and have done since I was a toddler, this has never happened to me.

This simply cannot be true, unless you're now only about 5 years old - you're trying to say you fly 8 times a year and have done for - how many years - and this has literally never happened. Child, something doesn't add up.

HappyLizard23 · Yesterday 22:19

This is common, especially with budget airlines. They sell their slots to other airlines to get more cash and move their flights to less desirable times.

AlphabetBird · Yesterday 22:22

We had an Iberia flight this summer which went from landing at London city, to landing at Heathrow, to landing at Gatwick all at totally different times all within 48 hours.

They are total fuckwits though, so that probably explains that.

Ok so you’ve established multiple times it’s never happened before. Now it has.
That’s how life works - you’ve never experienced anything until
the 1st time.

You're lucky ours was moved forward 2 days, 18 days before travel in the summer

Plump82 · Yesterday 22:38

We're flying in December and both our outward and return flights have been changed twice. The last 3 times we've flown in March our flights have been changed. It's just one of those things. The first time it happened in March they actually changed our dates by 3 days which was a pain as we had already booked and paid for our accommodation!
