To ask if this means my flight is going to be cancelled?!

I’m travelling to Rome next month with easyJet. Out of the blue my flight home has been moved from 5pm to 8pm, I’ve not been offered the chance to move to another flight or a refund. I’ve been told that as the flight is running I have to stick with it.

Does this mean the flight will be cancelled? It being moved later isn’t an issue as I have a hotel at the airport for the night (I was landing too late for trains home), but now I’m worrying!

No that often happens

Sherararara · Yesterday 12:23

It means the flights been moved🤷‍♀️

Rumplstitskin82 · Yesterday 12:23

No of course it doesn't. Why jump to that? flights get moved all the time for various reasons, mostly having to coordinate with other flight schedules.

BeeHive909 · Yesterday 12:25

It just means the flights been moved to accommodate the winter schedule. It always happens. If it was cancelled then you’d have been told already.

OrangeFlower14 · Yesterday 12:26

No it’s just a change thy do that a lot

ColdAsAWitches · Yesterday 12:26

I don't really know why you're jumping from moved to cancelled. Surely it's now less likely to be cancelled as simply moving has solved whatever the issue is?

I just don’t understand why it’s been moved at such short notice, with no reason given.

Why not call the head of flight operations and ask?
Honestly, do you always overthink everything?

mamaof4losingmymind · Yesterday 12:33

Have you even flown before this is really common

It isn’t uncommon and it’ll most likely be a boring operational reason like staffing or airplane availability or something at another airport having a knock-on effect or any one of a number of things. A month is actually quite decent notice!

Are you a nervous traveller?

TwinklyAmberSloth · Yesterday 12:34

Are you an anxious person?? Flights often get moved. Especially with cheaper airlines who opt for less popular take off and landing slots to reduce their costs.

The reason will be that your flight wasn't busy enough so they're not running it to save money. It's expensive to run a half empty flight.

serenavanderwoodsens · Yesterday 12:39

I do get anxious around travel but can also confidently say I’ve never experienced this with a flight before!

This happens all the time. They put, say, 3 flights up for sale and then end up running only the two busiest ones. I'm not that frequent a traveller and it's happened to me maybe 4 times.

Mumsntfan1 · Yesterday 12:50

This happens all the time. Enjoy the extra few hours of your trip!

I fly at least eight times a year and have done since I was a toddler, this has never happened to me.

I agree with “it happens”

Maybe not quite as frequently as some posters imply but frequently enough.

It doesn’t mean anything worse than that it’s moved!

GintyMcGinty · Yesterday 13:24

It happens. Especially with easyJet.

SALaw · Yesterday 13:27

Why would it MEAN that? If it meant that they would just cancel it?!

moonraker0 · Yesterday 13:32

If you’ve been flying eight times a year since you were a toddler and never had this happen to you then you should consider yourself lucky. I’d say 90% of the times I’ve flown to Cyprus (Paphos) I’ve had my flight times changed, sometimes more than once.

Really!! Can you tell me what the lottery numbers are tonight then. I only fly one a year and it's happened twice in the last 5 years. In fairness one was as a result of the increase in flights post COVID, but the other I expect was simply as a result of them wanting a quicker turn around of the plane between landing in Tenerife and returning to the UK.

Flights change due to plane and staff availability, the number of seats sold, slots available at airports and a hundred other reasons.

I am surprised if you fly so often you get so anxious. Personally I got a lot more relaxed after flying in a small 4 seater and understanding what goes on behind the scenes. Airports are shit and they are crap at giving information. But what's the worst thing to happen...you have to stay another day

Hmmm very strange that you’ve not experienced this before then. It can be for various reasons, a directive from air traffic control, flight not selling well enough so they amalgamate with another one. I fly about 5 times a year and this has happened to me about 4 of 5 times in the last few years so not that frequent but it’s not uncommon.

MauriceTheMussel · Yesterday 14:03

I’m nearly 40 and have never experienced this.

a delay on the day? Sure. A scheduled move in advance? No.

Bunnycat101 · Yesterday 14:10

We’ve had this loads- some routes are more prone to this than others. We’ve had changes amount to less than 10 minutes and some more like 6-8 hours.

burgerbeast · Yesterday 14:25

I’ve had flight times changed a few times, it’s annoying as you pick that time for a reason but airports schedules change.

On occasions that I have had flights cancelled it has been the day before or on the day. Again annoying, but alternative flights offered (so have arrived later than planned) & compensations paid due to an EU rule about outbound flights from UK.
