To get this rooster gone?

We have a farm near our house that's funded by taxpayers so everyone gets to visit. It's staffed by volunteers. We were walking on the evening and there was a rooster who had these beautiful black feathers that turned colorful when sunlight hit them.

Without thinking, I reached out to try to pet the gorgeous bird. He ran away and I thought no more of it. A couple minutes later he snuck up behind me and pecked at my leg enough to draw blood.

I told the people managing the farm and he was gone the next day, butchered.

My husband says I was being unreasonable, that the rooster was just defending his personal space and safety. I however like to feel safe when out for a walk. Was I unreasonable to report this rooster?

This happened to my young son. He was pecked quite badly by a turkey at a farm. I used it as a learning experience …. keep your hands to yourself when around animals. Maybe your mother should have taught you the same.

Who tries to pet a rooster?! They are notoriously territorial.

Has this been written in a supposedly amusing way? Because the writing is as annoying as fuck.

Who on earth would be dumb enough to touch a cockerel? A yank apparently. From the way it's written and level of pearl clutching, I'm assuming this little thread is a story brought to us by AI.

Again.

We still don't know if the cockerel is dead.
OP never came back to say how she knows this.

I’d gather from ‘rooster’ and the odd American spelling that the OP is in the US.

Maybe he was about due to be coq au vin anyway. A lot of boys aren’t generally needed to keep the feathered ladies fertilised.

Might add, the more usual complaint about cockerels is their early morning cock-a-doodle-doos!

You actually tried to touch a cockerel????! It's not a petting zoo! YABVU!

I wasn't expecting a sneak attack

Nor was the rooster expecting an attack when you approached it.
It was simply retaliation for your unacceptable actions.
Disgusting that you have shown no remorse for getting this animal killed
