Man urinating in park

Maybe IABU because I feel quite unwell.
Dog still needed a walk. Thought there is a
bench around this hedge line, I’ll sit down for a bit. Not happy to see a man urinating up the hedge between the park and tennis club.
I didn’t feel comfortable to sit on the bench right by a man with his penis out.

I’m a mature woman who manages to not wee in the park.
This was a man probably in his 30’s, not an older chap with prostate issues. AIBU to think he should not have been doing this?

My dad would have been early 40s when he was diagnosed with bladder cancer
His consultant said it was likely helped along due to his job not really having bathroom breaks built in back then so he would have to hold on for ages daily
When he was having treatment and for a long time after he didn't have much if any a warning of having to pee so many a wild wee was had with as much discretion as time allowed

It's not pleasant to sit near someone doing this but sometimes it can't be helped,

After two kids I'm often going for a wild wee myself but this is when I'm in the middle of nowhere walking the dogs and can hide in some woodland

Parks don't have enough public loos and men have prostate problems. It would be good to have better public facilities but we don't. Frankly, dog walkers cause most of the issues when it comes to toileting etiquette in parks.

Maybe he's on chemotherapy or something, or has a kidney infection.

Not great or proper at all but the birds wee all over the place so it is embarrassing but not a health issue for anyone else if it is a number one in a bush.

I once read that the laws allow pregnant women to pass water legally in the gutter in some shires. Is that still true?

PersephoneParlormaid · Today 06:33

My elderly DF, before he died, used to get little warning for a wee. He took the dog to a nice local park that has public loos. It must have recently been changed to needing 20p to get in. He had no change so made a dash for the car, he didn’t want to wee in a bush as he was scared of getting accused of being a paedo, and he ended up wetting himself. He was so ashamed and embarrassed, and that was the start of his decline and his reluctance to go out.

I’ve never really understood the issue with this.
As long as they’re somewhat discrete so you can’t see their penis. Does it really matter?

Theres a whole list of medical reasons why someone might need to go. There’s also very few public toilets open now.

Women do this too, we used to live close to a day festival in East London and there were just as many women as men urinating in public. I guess women have to be positioned lower so are less visible.

Tinyterrier · Today 06:46

I’ve done plenty of wild wees, usually on long walks, at festivals etc. it’s horrible when you’re desperate and there’s no toilet for miles. People shouldn’t be shamed for it, as long as they’ve made a reasonable effort to hide themselves. I’ve always gone deep in the bushes and no one’s ever caught me. Always do it at a festival I go to every year cos the queues for the disgusting portaloos are half an hour long. No way I’m going to wait in that just to trap myself in a box of other people’s shit! You see drunk young women weeing right on the street almost as much as you see drunk young men doing it on nights out in big cities

Totally agree with you. The whole ‘if you need to go’ crap is nonsense. As you say, you don’t see women squatting to pee in public places. Unless it’s an emergency like the car is broken down and someone needs to go behind the trees or bushes while waiting for recovery service. And if you could see his penis I’m pretty sure that’s a crime.

In my drinking days, I often needed a piss on the way home from the pub. I've had many a "gutter pee", squatting between two parked cars. I always tried to find a gap with a convenient drain to piss into though.

There's actually a public bog a bit more than halfway home, which would have been very handy if only the council didn't lock up all the public toilets around 7pm.

I've also had plenty of alfresco pees while out walking. There are very few public toilets on the South Downs Way!

OooPourUsACupLove · Today 08:01

I'm pretty sure the "oh I'm sure there's a good reason, they wouldn't just piss in the streets because they can and they want to" would change their tune pretty quickly if they lived where I do and stepped over fresh streams every day on the way to work!

As usual, it's always men who encounter these odd scenarios of having to go**

My older brother has prostrate problems, he's seems to get about a 10 second warning, otherwise he pisses himself.

Then he needs incontinence protection, not to be indecently exposing himself.

DancingNotDrowning · Today 08:04

Someone peeing in line of sight of a bench in a park is at best inconsiderate and more likely more than a little bit of an pervy exhibitionist.

Fupoffyagrasshole · Today 08:06

My daughters school is just on a park and on my way to pick her up twice now since start of September I’ve seen men having a wee not hidden just backs to me

the second time I called the guy out and said it was disgusting and it was school pick up time and hundreds of kids walk here wtf - he did get all flustered and apologetic and walked away

this park has bloody toilets too so there’s no excuse

dizzydizzydizzy · Today 08:06

I routinely have to tell men and boys off for urinating in our garden. We are 100m from a large supermarket with toilets. Never once had to tell a woman or girl off for this.

I once saw a woman peeing in some trees beside the car park at a motorway services. Didn’t think anything of it. The services was really busy and perhaps she simply couldn’t wait.

That doesn't surprise me, actually. There have been times when I've thought I could easily hang on till the next services but found that I only just made it.

I once had to have a pee on the actual carriageway of the M25, somewhere around Chertsey. I was on my way to pick friends up from the airport and there'd been a multi-vehicle crash that stopped the traffic for over 4 hours. There were no bushes or anything, so I just opened both doors on one side of the car and squatted between them.

EppingIsFun · Today 08:20

I have no issue with people doing this so long as they have made a reasonable effort to conceal themselves. I've done it loads of times, never been caught. Always had a bit of an overactive bladder and we do a lot of nature walks etc where there aren't many/any toilets.

Rather different to the drunk guy on the tube who was pissing all over the carriage- although I did get flamed on mumsnet when I posted about this, as apparently I should have felt sorry for him as he was clearly an alcoholic 😂

LlamasDramas · Today 08:20

The population has increased but the number of public toilets has reduced. As long as people are discreet, a wild wee is probably the only option. I have done it many times - there is no way I am going to have an accident when I can go behind a bush and have a quick wee.

Not all men are discreet though. Came across a man having a wee just outside Asda carpark - he could have just walked a minute to the Asda toilets but obviously couldn't be bothered. His friend apologised which was even stranger!
