My ducks are in a row and now not sure what to do

Things hadn’t been great with my DP for a little while. After a messy breakup from my ex which left me very little from the house sale I decided to apply for housing as I just couldn’t afford to rent privately which had been accepted and I am viewing a property this afternoon, in order to leave with my 2 young children (2 & 1). However. Things have recently improved and I finally feel like he is listening to me. But is it just superficial, do people change so quickly. He knows I have been looking to leave and now that is the reality I think maybe he realises how much will change if we are not living together.

He loses his temper quickly, drinks a lot at the weekend, lazy at times, I don’t like the dynamics when his son is with us 50/50 and just expects me to do a lot for SS. But he is in general a good father and supports us financially so we are comfortable.

I have to make a decision today at the viewing whether to accept or not. If I don’t it could go against me in the future if I ever wanted to sign on for housing again.

I feel writing it down cements my reasons to go. And hearing other’s experiences helps.

It didn’t take long for the mask to slip, he’s raised his voice tonight enough to bring me to tears so I know this is 100% right decision.

Can anyone advise what I’d need to get us by for the first couple of days as a necessity? Im looking on AO now. Cooker, fridge, double bed or mattress at least for me and toddler, travel cot for baby. Few mugs, kettle. Towels.

What an arse. Although I'm glad in a way he couldn't maintain his act, so you are even more determined!

crockery and cutlery (don't rule out charity shops!), duvet, curtains or even just one of those stick on black out blinds for now. I know it's darker now but you'll want at least one window covered for getting dressed!

To get you started for cooking:
A slow cooker might be nice for one pot meals.
Small and large saucepan, same for skillet
Stockpot
Medium sized casserole dish.
Big cooking spoon
Spatula
A sharp knife

A table and chairs? Even a folding card table & folding chairs will do at first.

So relieved you did the brave thing, best of luck!

Have a look on Freecycle sites if you don’t mind some secondhand items to get you started. Friends and family might be happy to pass on extra items too, like kitchen stuff, bed linens etc.

Have a lovely new life with your babies 🥰

So glad you have taken the property.

check charity shops, British heart foundation usually have a lot of things like beds, sofas, electricals.

Ikea if you have one for cheap bits like plates/cups etc

the first few days can be a little adventure, a few bits to see you through will be fine whilst you get sorted.
Good luck and here is to happier times
