AIBU to think genital ‘jewellery’ on a man is a bit weird?

BF has been dating a new guy for a few weeks. Everything seems to be going swimmingly well and they’re apparently getting on like a house on fire. She has not slept with him yet, but during a slightly tipsy conversation it somehow came up that he has a metal ring which fits around his scrotum and base of the penis, which he said was for ‘decoration’ but also helps to maintain an erection for longer. This did not entirely surprise or shock me as he seems a bit of a hippy type with a man-bun, lots of tattoos and those earrings that stretch your earlobes into big holes. I said I thought the ring seemed a bit weird though and potentially a red flag. BF said she feels quite turned on by the idea of something a bit different, and in any case if she didn’t like it he could easily take it off as it’s not actually a piercing.

Literally only your opinion.

hygiene isn't opinion

Why would a metal ring be unhygienic though? Assuming it’s surgical stainless steel?

Cock rings are so mainstream you can buy them in tesco! 😂

Not sure what you're getting at. Do you think people with genital piercings don't wash?

Google will be your friend for this one

I am not googling anything that appears to be penis related.

KayFabe · 10/10/2026 15:16

I knew a man who wore one of these. He took a plastic nut off a lawnmower then took a file to the hole over several weeks to make it a "custom fit".

The story is that Prince Albert (Q Victoria's husband) didn't like the line that his penis made in his britches, so had a ring inserted inwards via the urethra and out of the bottom of the head of the penis - to which a small chain was attached - hence the penis could be secured downwards out of sight.

That could of course be urban myth - but that's the reason for the name.

Oh dear God.

Surely it would just have been easier and safer to buy the correct size ring in surgical stainless steel?

I was aware of the stretchy silicone type, but this would appear to be a larger, thicker metal ring which encircles the whole of the meat and two veg!

What rock have you been living under that a cock ring is odd 😂

I have favourite ring but it’s on the hob and I shop in Waitrose. I don’t think I’m a cock-jewellery person. DP is away, but based on his fandom of GQT and Monty Don, I don’t think he is either.

It's not a red flag at all but would definitely give me the ick, purely because I'd personally think either actually get a piercing or don't bother.

What?

Genital piercings and cockrings are... pretty much unrelated. Wanting one does not indicate one really wants the other but is too much of a wimp. It's as logical as saying 'wearing a ring? Either get your ears pierced or don't bother!'... 'Having a sandwich? Tsk, have a roast dinner or don't bother!'...

A cock ring is not a Prince Albert substitute.

Error404FucksNotFound · 10/10/2026 17:36

Was he telling you about his penis jewellery or was it your friend who told you about the conversation?

Oh God not him personally! 😆 I haven’t met the man yet, this was something revealed to me by BF spilling the beans as it were!

Did you clear it with your friend before posting a description of her date and his penis on mumsnet? If it was me I’d be fuming 😬

Wildgoat · 10/10/2026 19:21

I’ve no idea how this is a red flag, it’s not like he’s down Asda showing it off, he only will put it in for sex to um, help him,

MurphysColeslaw · 10/10/2026 19:33

I think I’d feel inadequate if a man needed stuff to help him ?
Maybe I’m just old and not familiar with this kind of thing?

If you’re looking for facts rather than opinion, here’s a fact for you: a cock ring is a lot more hygienic than wearing rings on your fingers.

Christ alive, the place is like a different planet.

A cock ring doesn’t mean he ‘needs stuff to help him’ and it’s certainly got nothing to do with how ‘adequate’ his partner is.

Yep you definitely don’t get it.

I wonder how he feels about her not respecting his privacy. I would be very cross with my husband if he went round telling his mates about my genitals, whether or not they were bejewelled in any way

Myli1 · 10/10/2026 10:41

Well perhaps ‘red flag’ is a bit too strong, maybe I’m a bit naïve but I just thought it seemed a bit odd.

It's literally to stay harder for longer, which gives some men a bit of confidence in bed. You're strangely naive and judgemental.

It's not equivalent to a piercing.

Thirstysue · 10/10/2026 20:16

You need to get out more. Its hardly genital jewellery.
Its a cock ring, not a bloody Prince Albert.

SethAndReubenTooSendGaloshes · 10/10/2026 20:16

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 10/10/2026 12:09

She literally titled it jewellery 🤷

Edited

Yes because she's never heard of a cock ring apparently. It's not jewellery.

Italiangoddess200 · 10/10/2026 14:51

It's a metal ring that slips over the penis and slips off again. It's not unhygienic.
