Scented period products are vile

I can smell the artificial stink before getting close to them in the aisle.

Tesco own brand and Bodyform are the only ones that do the job well and aren’t scented.

I wonder how many women were overruled during that decision making process? Does anyone actually like them??

YANBU - Hellish creations
YABU - I love them

Ditto scented toilet paper 🤢

Yetanotherone12 · 09/10/2026 17:51

yep what’s the bet the “designers” are men.

didn’t really get past “how can we sell more?”- I know, convince women they need to hide a non existent smell.

Ditto scented toilet paper 🤢

Was literally just going to say this !!! Why the hell are these things produced !!

HappyLizard23 · 09/10/2026 17:52

Not only do they stink they also cause loads of issues down there

Blackandyellow65 · 09/10/2026 18:00

I don’t have a problem with them. It’s only on mn I ever see people complaining that the mere sight of a scented product immediately gives them thrush.

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 09/10/2026 18:04

I can’t bear plasticky itchy sanitary towels, haven’t used them in years.

Crispsandcola · 09/10/2026 18:05

Borderline offensive given that they're literally trying to infer that our vaginas and what comes out of them smell bad and need to be scented

AlphabetBird · 09/10/2026 18:09

Weirdest invention ever. If you need a scent to mask the smell of your pad for people sitting ordinarily close to you, it needed to be changed a while ago. If you’re close enough to smell it before then, you’re on pretty good terms and probably well aware there’s a period going on.

They also smell like cheap disinfectant, which is not welcoming.

Scented toilet roll really does give me thrush too. That’s not a myth.

WarmthAndDepth · 09/10/2026 18:14

Yeeeees! Absolutely gross.
I use home made reusable pads -so nice and soft, and smelling of absolutely nothing. Vulvas are f r a g r a n t and periods don't smell bad as a rule, so no need for products that smell like a florists just threw up.

EmpressaurusKitty · 09/10/2026 18:17

I use reusables & period pants. Much, much nicer.

mtobrokeme · 09/10/2026 18:20

I am someone who rarely gets ill, I’ve probably hurt myself twice in my life (you watch I’ll get knocked over now!) but I have the worlds most sensitive vagina when it comes to anything remotely chemically. As soon as one of those god awful scented pads gets within a metre of my Fanny it becomes a sore swollen mess. I hate them and they don’t even smell nice anyway.

boredsmored · 09/10/2026 18:23

I’ve been under the weather & had my period, the only big pads I could find were scented ones. JFC they stink & made me gag. Why have they done this?!

Lifewasapillow · 09/10/2026 18:31

Yanbu. They're minging and unnecessary. See also scented toilet paper and all air "fresheners".

KassandraOfSparta · 09/10/2026 18:38

And that "all over body deodorant" that you are supposed to squirt down your pants.

Just no.

RedGlassHeart · 09/10/2026 18:45

Argh! Accidentally voted for the wrong option! Hideous things. They stink.

aminchargok · 09/10/2026 18:49

They are revolting. I actively sniff the packet before buying to ensure they are not scented!

JoannCourcyIveGotThePowerNSoul · 09/10/2026 18:50

CruelsummerTS · 09/10/2026 17:50

Ditto scented toilet paper 🤢

Exactly loo paper has a purpose and will not be scented for long in the artificial sense but with our excretions.

Ponderingwindow · 09/10/2026 18:53

I honestly can’t believe it’s legal to sell them. Society does nothing about the harm that comes to women from putting those products next to sensitive skin for hours on end, month after month for years. It really says something about how we as a society think about women.

Leafyleaferson · 09/10/2026 18:55

They’re horrendous. I stopped using Always and switched to Aldi’s but now the Aldi ones are scented too Angry The scent is really unpleasant.

pinkdyno · 09/10/2026 18:58

Sainsbury’s are plain. And Lidl. The scented ones make me feel sick, and the twice I’ve had no choice after being caught out have had thrush. Just awful.

Hoardasurass · 09/10/2026 18:58

Scented tampons are the worst.
Oh and the chemicals they use yo sent the pads leave me with chemical burns (picked up a packet by mistake and only used 1 pad on the way back to the shop) god knows what sort of damage a scented tampon would do.

Greenmouldycheese · 09/10/2026 18:59

Periods dont smell so theres no need for scented product.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 09/10/2026 19:00

They don't bother me at all. I usually buy Always or Bodyform, not bothered which, fragranced or not isn't a deciding factor. I don't particularly notice the perfume and I don't get thrush.

Pinkflamingo10 · 09/10/2026 19:07

It plays into the age-old narrative that menstruating women are dirty unclean and smelly. We therefore need scented period products. And scented vaginal washes/douches etc etc
personally in recent years I use period pants which are great.

ForPeas · 09/10/2026 19:15

I can't say I notice the small of scented products at the supermarket to be honest.

I work with a woman who regularly (monthly, I guess) smells like old period blood. I wish she would change whatever product she uses more frequently as the smell can be vile. I'm not sure a scented product would help really, but I sometimes wonder if people like her are the reason these products were created.
