Christa Pikes is awake and ‘talking’

She’s out of the coma and talking to her lawyers. Aibu to think the state of Tennessee can’t possibly try to do the lethal injection again ? Surely not? People on Reddit are suggesting she might need an amputation of one of her arms because of how caustic pentobarbital is.

Seems like she’s accidentally being tortured to death like the poor girl she killed. No more than she deserves.

So you’d be ok if she moved in next door to you and your family? If not, why not?

I think she should be in a secure hospital. Where she is cared for. I don't know she should be released because she must have very complicated trauma and MH issues.

She now has a failed execution to add to her list of trauma and abuse.

It’s barbaric enough keeping them on death row for as long as they do so they have to sit with a torturous death sentence looming over them for decades. The fact this failed should (but won’t) make the remaining states wake up to the sheer inhumanity.

Um, they choose to be on death row so long - with do you think it is? It's not the state's doing, it's because they're running endless appeals trying to get out of it. The prisoner could choose not to appeal if they preferred, then they wouldn't have the death sentence hanging over their heads for decades and the state could get on with applying the sentence it gave out.

There are some sick fuckers on this thread. Anyone who advocates smothering someone or caving in their skull as some have done on this thread are no better than the murderer they’re condoning.

Newname26 · 07/10/2026 06:25

IndigoBluey · 07/10/2026 01:43

why would she not go back on the execution rota when it starts again? Bit strange they have paused it for this year. What’s the difference between 31/12/26 and say 31/01/2027?

I think its buying them time to have a think.

The people who were there must be traumatised having watched her and heard her asking if it was right then hear her snoring.

Do they really want to be a state that does death penalty?

Do they really want that to happen again?

Yes, to be honest. Admittedly I don’t have small children now. I’d be more anxious if I did. My neighbour could be a murderer or pedophile and I’d have no idea.

No one advocates her crime. You seem to advocate torturing a woman to death for something she did 30 years ago, as an extremely troubled teen. Will you then condemn her executioners who are torturing her now? Using unreliable drugs and methods to kill her? Should they get a firing squad instead?

Well no, because the executioners aren’t inflicting torture and murder on someone for fun, unlike Christa did.
What a ludicrous argument. And yes, people derisive to be punished for their crimes, regardless is it was 30 years ago.

CrazyMidget · 07/10/2026 01:47

Yes, someone upset her in 2021 and she tried to kill them. Was charged for attempted murder. It involved strangling with a shoelace.

It was 2001 and going by Wikipedia the person she attacked was in a fight with someone else.

I'm not saying she's a safe person or a model citizen but I think she deserves some compassion.

Newname26 · 06/10/2026 23:39

When you think her boyfriend is out on parole because he was under 18 and she was over 18.
Then consider she was abused since she was a baby, raped age 2

I think she's suffered enough.
Nothing is going to bring her victim back.

The people who witnessed her failed execution must be suffering some sort of post traumatic stress too, especially since they were warned by her lawyers she could suffer unduly.

Its time for a rethink.

I find it hard to have sympathy with someone suffering from PTSD from watching a failed execution. What kind of monster chooses to watch an execution?

Fredabasset · 07/10/2026 06:48

AnotherOctober · 07/10/2026 01:12

My sympathy is only with the victim and her family.

I agree.
IMO if you set out to deliberately separate another human being from their life you automatically forfeit the right to get any older.

In this case because of the condition of her veins, firing squad would have been quicker and more effective.

The person who is putting in the needle?
The prison officers?
Whoever dialed for the ambulances?
The people who were getting ready to remove the body?

The same people who'd be expected to be there the next time, her lawyers maybe?

I'm guessing but it certainly didn't happen in an empty room

Where have I advocated torturing her to death?

I’m referring to the posters on this thread who have stated that she should be smothered or have her skull caved in now that the lethal injection failed.

And yes. I think that executioners are murderers.

I have 0 doubt that they are all sadists who enjoy killing other people, murderers in their own right who take the job they do because they can live out their sadistic fantasies of killing people and do it legally and without consequence.

Anyone who works as an executioner is no more trustworthy than the people they execute.

I don't think her mom/stepdad agree. They said Colleen's soul will not rest until her killer has died.

Jesus Christ. Retributive justice makes no sense though does it? We dont rape rapists? We dont kidnap the children of abductors. Why? Because the authorities are supposed to be BETTER than the criminals. Thats the whole point. Otherwise there ARE no crimes and everyone can just go around doing whatever the hell they feel.like to each other surely?

SilHoarderandJudged · 07/10/2026 06:58

Whilst I have every sympathy for her victim I also think that the death penalty is wrong on all levels, there would never be a case where I’d think ‘yes that’s the only way’. It doesn’t sit right that murder can be somehow validated when it is carried out by a government , the same government that deem it such a heinous crime that deserves the highest level punishment?

Clearly Christa Pike is a terrible person for what she did but we can’t say on one hand one woman didn’t deserve to suffer yet another does, the US seems to enjoy making women suffer though and for that separate reason alone I’d say the death penalty needs to be abolished as well as all the other reasons.

Unfortunately yes a lot of people are in pain for much longer. But it's a different thing when we're putting someone to death. This isn't an unavoidable tragedy that everyone is trying to prevent, this is a Government killing someone and choosing to put them in pain. It's incredible when we decide that the fit and proper punishment for murder is to murder the perpetrator. It also shows that the Government is so incompetent that they can't carry out an execution properly regardless of how they do it. Is it that impossible to get trained marksmen shooting at point blank range to shoot in the correct location? Are they not using trained marksmen and going with someone who's had 30 minutes training with a rifle and watched a YouTube video? I don't know but we have a high level of responsibility to get it right when the Government is choosing to put people to death.

The things these people have done are awful. They deserve serious punishment and extreme steps to keep the public (and possibly other inmates) safe but most people don't just have a perfectly normal life and mental health and then decide to do horrific thing. They're sick individuals who should have received help a long time ago. I don't know much about Christia Pike's childhood or schooling but how did nobody notice her behaviour and get her some help? Didn't a teacher at school see anything?

Yes, definitely best to avoid botched jobs - and frankly, while I don't have a moral issue with the death penalty, I don't like the government having the power to kill its citizens.

I think it would be difficult to get a highly trained marksman who is also willing to execute a person.

And yes, Pike was absolutely failed by the adults around her, as a child, and a teenager.

I am surprised that since they are such god-fearing folks down there that they just don't accept that it is divine intervention and commute her sentence.

I said exactly this to DH.
I don't agree with state sanctioned murder, and I also don't see how that computes with Christianity but apparently in Tennessee it does, so surely this is a 'sign'.

allydoobs83 · 07/10/2026 07:05

I doubt so many of you would be quite so sympathetic if it was your daughter that she'd tortured and killed. I think Colleen's mum and family should decide whether they want her to return to Death Row,or stay in prison for the rest of her life.
Karma's a bitch, and I have no sympathy for her. Lots of people have horrific pasts but don't end up caving an innocent person's head in.

The ONLY reason CP is suffering is BECAUSE she tortured and murdered “ another woman “ Colleen Slemmer. We CAN say that Colleen did not deserve to die but CP does BECAUSE of what she did. She took that poor girls life and brutally.

LoisGriffinskitchen · 07/10/2026 07:09

I would not fancy meeting some of you lot here on a dark night with your dark vengeful souls.

Christa has survived two lethal injections. There is no legal precedent for this, at the very least they are going to be tied up legally for a long time and are probably going to have to a rewrite DP laws.

in the meantime they will likely have to commute her sentence to LWOP which is what it should have been at the start. She was 18, an abused kid with an immature and likely stunted brain growth. Add in the fact that the brain does not fully mature until aged 25 or thereabouts and you have a problem.

If I was Colleen’s Mum I’d want the DP too but this won’t bring her daughter back, all it’s done is delay and delay justice as she sees it. Justice should have been LWOP from the start and she could then have mentally thrown away the key,

skydivery · 07/10/2026 07:13

I think it’s absolutely possible to believe two things at the same time - that Colleen Slemmer’s family deserve justice and peace but that the State should not kill Christa Pike.

Rollingpinofdoom · 07/10/2026 05:45

Why? Why does this person deserve the mercy of living to an old age? What mercy did she show to her victim? Why should people not die for their crimes?

Living to an old age and dying in an American prison is not merciful.

Killing a killer to demonstrate that killing is wrong.
Makes no sense.
