Why would you hide over the counter medicine

Help me figure this out please. Why would my husband be hiding ibuprofen, two types of allergy tablets, gaviscon, deep heat, strepsils and athletes foot canestan. he doesn’t have any allergies. I’ve never known him to need gaviscon. AIBU for thinking it’s suspicious? If I ask him he will gaslight be anyway so I’m just trying to figure this out before I ask.

Wouldn't he just be on a demanding work-out regime?

Clearly the products itself are not the issue in your relationship though...

Girasoli · 05/10/2026 19:00

Why do you think he's hiding it? Is he putting it somewhere really odd or just somewhere that might be logical for him (e.g. athletes foot cream in a sock drawer?)

Oh yes way more issues. What do they have to do with a work out regime? Help me out here

Exactly that. It’s not in a normal place

What do you mean by hidden? In a locked box type thing or shiver under the bed out if the way?

If just out of the way I wouldn't think twice about it. Actually hidden is very very odd.

TY78910 · 05/10/2026 19:01

Whats going on in your relationship?
none of those products are particularly offiensive
when you say hiding - how/where?

Spaniels4Eva · 05/10/2026 19:01

Doesn't sound like there's a lot of trust between you.

They sound like every day medications so I've got no idea why he would hide any of them though.

XenoBitch · 05/10/2026 19:03

He is probably hiding them because you are weird about them.
None of those things are anything to be concerned with. I have most of them, and they are "hidden" in a cupboard.

CookingFatCat · 05/10/2026 19:04

Are you certain what’s in the boxes and bottles is what the packaging says?

Sunloungerhogger · 05/10/2026 19:05

By “hide”, is it more like “have a stash of” ie he’s got a supply of things (which presumably he feels he needs periodically) and it’s just he’s not been keeping them where you think they go? - we have a medicine drawer, but to be honest I have various things like paracetamol, Gaviscon etc that I use pretty regularly stashed in various places / handbags etc that are not the designated medicine drawer (we don’t have children so there’s no risk of a child accidentally finding and taking things which should be locked out of harm’s way, just in case anyone thinks that irresponsible).

blythet · 05/10/2026 19:07

What makes you think they’re hidden. I have many of the things you’ve listed and I have them in a box inside a drawer/cupboard so they are organised and not cluttering the place up.

what to do you suspect?

Bitzee · 05/10/2026 19:08

What do you mean by hiding it? Maybe he just views medicines as a personal rather than shared household thing so he likes keep in his own place so he knows he has them when needed or can grab to take on an overnight trip (does he travel with work or do solo holidays?). As opposed to finding the shared medicine cabinet is out of ibuprofen when he has a headache. I do get it, I think. Depends where you found them. Oh and on the allergy meds some also double as sleep aids. And I’m not sure if needing gaviscon, even when you haven’t previously, warrants a marital discussion. Does it?! It sounds like there are bigger issues at play, but I wouldn’t be alarmed if DH had a personal stash of normal OTC medicines.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 05/10/2026 19:09

What are you suspicious of?

With the very little info here maybe he’s hiding them so you don’t question why he has them. It’s a weird thing to be suspicious of, it doesn’t point to anything at all.

blythet · 05/10/2026 19:10

I also have a lot of over the counter meds I don’t use. I bought anti-diarrhoea and anti-sickness tablets before I went on holiday didn’t need them and came home and put them in my medicine box out of sight. I also bought antihistamines as when I had a bbq in summer a couple of guests asked and I felt bad I didn’t have any so bought a box next time I was in a supermarket thinking they’d be handy to have

escapegoats · 05/10/2026 19:11

Prepping?
DH mocked me when I anticipated and planned for the COVID pandemic so I did hide some of the stuff I got.

escapegoats · 05/10/2026 19:12

Or wants to know it will be there when he needs it?
DH has a habit of using the last gaviscon /paracetamol ...

DahliaDelights · 05/10/2026 20:31

What is "hidden".

What exactly are you worried about? I can't understand why youre worried for thinking he is hiding medicine.

I have multiple stashes of medications; in bags I use, in the bathroom cabinet, in the downstairs drawer, in suitcases; mainly multiples so I dont have to remember to put them in whatever bag im using. I wouldnt say they are hidden, but if someone looked, its definitely not in a medicine cabinet.

BurntBroccoli · 05/10/2026 20:36

Could be a prepper - sounds very much like it and probably worried about your reaction.

I have a small stash of painkillers put away just in case! I remember during Covid these were in short supply in some shops.

‘Prepping’ for athletes foot? Do people do that?

RelievedNoYouTubeMum · 05/10/2026 20:50

Maybe he’s embarrassed about his ailments? I keep medicines like that separate from the family selection as the whole house doesn’t need to know what I suffer with.

PollyBell · 05/10/2026 20:58

I have stuff people would label hidden it is not hidden it is?where i have shoved them same as everyone i know

SoSoLong · 05/10/2026 21:02

I've got this sort of medicine all over the house, in my bedside cabinet, in my desk drawer, various handbags and suitcases. I'm not hiding it, I'm just not bothered putting it in the medicine cabinet. Mostly I buy it for holidays just in case and never use it.

MajorSamanthaCarter · 05/10/2026 21:07

In what way is it suspicious? Do you think his mistress suffers from athletes foot, achy joints, indigestion, sore throats and allergies?
It's hardly a list of erotic delights is it!?

I've got mine in both my handbags, in the car, in the drawer and probably somewhere I've forgotten 😂
