So right now you are likely feeling super sensitive and vulnerable recovering from surgery alone. That will be triggering the abandonment thing from the ex. You need to focus on caring for yourself and recovering.

what you feel right now is heightened for a reason. It will pass
I too have see your MANY other threads.

It might help to just accept the pain.

Some people live with horrendous physical pain due to medical issues, which can go on for years and years, and they just have to learn techniques to live with and 'manage' the pain. So reframe your emotional pain in the same way - something that you can't stop but you just have to live with.

You cannot stop the pain. So don't even try.
Just accept that it really, really, really, really hurts.
Then whilst it is hurting, you get on with your life.
So go and get on with your life.

This is exactly what I counselled a few weeks ago but as many others are saying, it’s like talking to a brick wall.

GP, anti-depressants, all supposedly ‘tried’, but nothing compares to the regular fixes of sympathy her posts deliver for her and to which she pays feck all attention, as that isn’t their function.
That’s the addiction she so often mentions but likes to interpret as a Brontë-worthy epic attachment to this ex, and which was a constant here throughout her intermittent relationship with him.

I have tried antidepressants
I have gone to therapy
nothing seems to be working
I had. A hysterectomy 3 days ago. My son is with his father at the moment . While I recover

OP, what is happening at home, now your teenaged lad is absent?
I hoped he'd be sparing you various tasks around the house, doing a bit of shopping etc right now. Have you got what you need in terms of food and clean laundry, for the moment?
You've not actually complained about any practicalities at all, so I hope this means someone is taking care of essentials for you.

There is nothing you can do to stop the hurting.
You just have to feel the pain.

I feel for you. I remember my first breakup when I was 19 and pregnant it was horrible the worse I’ve ever felt till that point it was all consuming, I couldn’t eat sleep think about anything else I was constantly crying my eyes out for months and months driving myself crazy ringing him constantly leaving voicemails basically acting like a crazy stalker. I didn’t have anyone so was very lonely. Eventually I gave myself a nosebleed I was crying so much I felt numb and dead inside. But finally once I had my baby after all the stress I put my poor baba through during pregnancy as soon as he came out I just stopped caring and that was that… now many years later having broken up with a few boyfriends thankfully it never hurt as much as the first time and I didn’t go crazy stalker like I just went no contact right away. At first I was hoping maybe they might come back but after few months to a year I didn’t care anymore. Time and keeping busy is the biggest healer. And if you need to cry do but after a few months it’s still raw especially if you have been together so long, you probably depend on him and are use to him being their more than anything.. go doctors ask for help
keep busy and delete all traces of him.. just give it time it won’t happen over night. Get outside fresh air exercise. Meet friends. Do something for you. Hobbies. Getting out meet people will help and you will see in time he wasn’t right for you. Take care xxx

Also listening to music about break ups and not giving a fuck helped me lol headphones in while taking a walk . Gave me a boost dua lipa really got me through lol x

Gourdgirl · 05/10/2026 13:35

But youre not willing to try anything.
Here you are again lamenting your lost love.

Stompythedinosaur · 05/10/2026 13:39

Another suggestion op - allocate yourself a strict half hour period in the evening for missing him. Any time outside the designated "moping around time" you want to miss him, put in on the shelf for later and get busy with something else - go for a walk, clean out a cupboard, anything.

During your "moping around time" you can be as upset as you like, cry, whatever you need to, but after half an hour you have to pick yourself up, wash your face, and do something else.

It sounds strange, but it works!

Uricon2 · 05/10/2026 13:41

@TheOpalFox you don't help yourself by insisting you have 'noone' on several threads when you have a child, live with your elderly father and have recently been planning a hen night for your best friend who you are also maid of honour for. That is not 'noone' and shows skewed thinking.

You've just had surgery and a start would be concentrating on recovery from that, not a man who is not coming back and has no interest in you anymore.

Charalam · 05/10/2026 16:38

You need to give the antidepressants time to work. It’s not instant. Honestly they changed my life.

OffWith · 05/10/2026 16:41

Had no idea why the first replies were being so blunt so advance searched.

That was... a journey.
