Just that really. I know it’s stupid but does anyone get the same?
it takes over me. The anxiety is terrible x

Yep. I am with you. The anxiety and tense feeling I get thinking about work ruins my Sunday tbh. I'm a secondary teacher.

ItsNotMeEither · 04/10/2026 17:22

Are you a teacher? I think they're pretty common in the last 5-10 years.

After 42 years I've just resigned, but yes, sadly, you're not imagining them. It does ruin a Sunday.

CoffeeCantata · 04/10/2026 17:25

I’m sorry, teachers - this is no comfort to you, but when I stopped teaching and did something else it transformed my life and Sundays were suddenly lovely. I know exactly what you’re feeling. You only really get Friday evening and Saturday when you’re a teacher- the Sunday tends to be in a gloomy shadow.

topcat2014 · 04/10/2026 17:32

I got sacked from a high stress job in a MAT, (non teaching) and now work at a lower level in private sector. Less money but zero stress

notantordec · 04/10/2026 17:32

No this is the first job in 26 years I don’t have them. I’m a sad sack who loves their job lol

Me too. I avoid going to bed on saturday so the weekend isnt almost over.

Bufftailed · 04/10/2026 17:35

Nope. But stepped back to a lower paying role. Stress is not constant, every once in a while, Can’t last forever unfortunately.

ohmaaaan · 04/10/2026 17:37

I know exactly what you mean.

I don’t even work Mondays now, but I have Wednesday night dread instead!

DearRedBeaker · 04/10/2026 17:38

I have a newish job and no longer get the sunday scaries. It is not inevitable! I now have very supportive manager and work in a wonderful place. But my previous job(s) were so bad I could'nt switch off and had poor sleep etc.

BooksandSlippers · 04/10/2026 17:45

Expecting an Ofsted call any Monday now so currently every Sunday is excruciating. It's awful, I can't sleep, can't focus, I keep thinking of things I havent done or a letter formation Ive missed or a detail I may forget that they will ask me about, my heart is racing in constant waves of worry, I can feel my cheeks burning on and off and I feel sick.

A friend told me it's apparently no different to an audit in an office, but I'm not sure the level of worry is quite the same as they don't seem to think it is a big deal.

Rockpunkdisco · 04/10/2026 17:46

Always until I quit teaching! Xx

FabulousFreshias · 04/10/2026 17:48

Currently off sick from teaching with stress, I have just stopped getting them but that was a huge part of my life for many years! Hope everyone who has the Sunday scaries is ok, can sleep tonight and has a good week

SpookyHalloweenDeviledEggs · 04/10/2026 17:49

It's slowly starting to happen for me. Not in the teaching sector. Used to happen all the time in my previous place pre COVID and I would get a bad neck because I slept so tense and anxious from it and very slowly it's creeping in again. Shall have to reassess after Christmas and make some tough choices.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 04/10/2026 18:52

I do. I don’t usually but my boss isn’t happy with me and I think I’m gonna get fired soon.

It feels great.

Please excuse a rude joke…

What’s the difference between a facelift and an Ofsted inspection?

Well, a facelift tucks up your features and an Ofsted inspection………..

CatsLikeBoxes · 04/10/2026 20:34

I was just thinking I need a 3 day weekend as Sundays are spoilt by sudden waves of a sinking stomach feeling. I usually put off going to sleep Sunday night to prolong the weekend even though I know I'll be tired in the morning. Actually being at work is generally ok, though there's just too much to do - I think it's like being expected to do 2 full time jobs simultaneously. I wish winning the lottery was a viable option

LyndaSnellsSniff · 04/10/2026 20:35

Yes. I'm a teaching assistant and we are expecting The Call before half term. That's stressful enough, but we have a new-to-the-school child in our class with severe anxiety who has a tendency to run away and attempt to climb over the school gates. I dread every morning because we just don't know how things will go.

Oxo01 · 04/10/2026 20:47

I always feel like this on Sundays then it changed to Tuesdays as I went down to 3 days a week.
Now it's bliss I retired from Social Work 2 years ago.

EdinaTheConfessor · 04/10/2026 20:49

Yeah it’s horrible and my job isn’t even really that terrible.
I think it’s just the drudgery and monotony.

EatMoreChocolate44 · 04/10/2026 20:56

Yep, primary school teacher here and I'm hungover and my 10 year old has a tummy bug and just thrown up. Anxiety up to 100.

Theimpossiblegirl · 04/10/2026 21:07

Yes. Also expecting Ofsted and every week that they don't call, SLT seem to find more things we need to be doing. I've got a really tricky cohort this year and I'm really feeling it. I wish I could afford to leave but getting a job to match or nearly match my salary around here is just not possible.

WhatNextImScared · 04/10/2026 21:09

I’m self employed and still get Sunday scaries. It’s the pressure - I can’t afford a bad month financially and it’s all on me (even though I like my work)

i’m currently dealing with some health problems and what my body really needs is time out. I’m only 44 but can’t imagine how I’ll get through to retirement age at this point

WhatNextImScared · 04/10/2026 21:12

Sorry to report to everyone here that I’m not a teacher, so it’s not a guarantee that you’ll solve it by leaving teaching. A lot of it is personality type IMO, plus the proliferation of awful bosses in the UK. I am also from a high stress sector though, so that might be the common denominator.

Irberthegerber · 04/10/2026 21:23

I did in one job, then thought what the hell am I doing, so left. That was when jobs were easy to come by though. There were long periods when I’d get home at midnight on a Friday and have to leave for work away from home on Sunday. I’d be working ridiculously long hours. My time was billed by the hour, but I wasn’t paid by the hour.

dreamingofgoodhair · 04/10/2026 21:32

I’m don’t because I don’t work Monday to Friday but I remember it from school.
