AIBU to be annoyed DH convinced me not to go for drinks because he was tired, then went by himself?

DS is at his friend’s house. Both DH and I are friendly with the parents and were invited to drinks when we picked DS up. I was up for doing that.

DH and I got home from work separately, chatted and he said he was knackered after a long week at work so we agreed that just one of us would go, collect DS and come home for dinner and TV. He went and I started making dinner. It’s a 15 mins drive.

20 minutes later I received a message “Just having drinks and pizza here, you could come over on a Lime Bike if you fancy but guess you’re not that fussed ? Xx”

I am so pissed off. Now I look like the miserable antisocial one!

AIBU?

FYI: on MN you can change your vote right up until the vote closes.

Not anymore from what i can tell.

Your husband is an idiot but clearly you told him so that's sorted. Your son sounds like a fine young man.

It was an hour ago. I had zero desire to cycle in Friday night London traffic. Not dressed for cycling. Totally different to going together in the car.

You should have jumped in an Uber and he could have paid for it.

PurpleBadgers · 05/10/2026 07:43

I’d be a bit annoyed but you already knew he would have a hard time saying no so I’d have just gone with him in the first place.

I don't see there's any reason to make a big deal of things - he was tired, you agreed just to pick up then he went there are in the moment didn't want to say no or got a second wind, which does happen. I've certainly gone out when I felt too tired to do so but almost always got into it while I was there. As others have said, he dud invite you. I think it's ridiculous to suggest he somehow deliberately excluded you, unless that's a pattern.

He got there, was invited for a drink and some food and then realised actually yes, he could do that. It would have been more considerate to say 'Ah no, I promised @HotCrossBunplease I'd be straight back', yes, but it's not worth being very cross about imo.

What?

Firefly100 · 05/10/2026 08:45

I think the lesson from this story is next time something similar occurs, say fine if you are too tired but I’m not so I’ll go without you. He can sort his own dinner.

CalamityJane81 · 05/10/2026 18:19

All the people that say he is impressionable blah blah blah. They literally made plans as a couple that he shat all over.

He’s a prick OP. At the very least he could have messaged you and said he got roped in and that he would come for you!

Edited to add that he attempted to gaslight you with the ‘not being bothered’ comment. Properly shitty behaviour.

He knew she was cooking! They agreed on that. Who on this earth wouldn’t be annoyed after working all day and having started cooking (when try had an offer of pizza) if their partner said they were eating pizza that they agreed not to eat less than 30 minutes ago? I would be incandescent with rage. And the gaslighting! ‘I guess you’re not bothered.’ That’s the opposite of what she said!

They were both home by 8.15. One of us was always driving, it was never going to be a big night out.

I should add that, knowing the hosts as I do, I did comment to him before he left that they’d suck him in and he swore it would not happen. He now claims I should just have come with if I was so sure…

His justification is that when he arrived the family said they had just ordered pizza and he thought it would be rude to just leave.

Even DS (age 10) pointed out that he had no problem being rude to his own wife by not just politely heading home.

Anyway we’re all fine now. I have said my piece…

Christ you’re more forgiving than I’d have been!
Next time - don’t tell him about the invite and you go alone!!

Even on the app? How?

Ah I don’t use the app. I am assuming it doesn’t work on that.

Well what I said is true for me who uses the regular web version from my phone. And how it works is you literally just click on the option you want, and it will reassign your vote to the preferred option

Could he have changed his mind / got a second wind when he got there?

Any reason you don't want to jump on a Lime bike and head over?

It's not like hes not invited you?

Nice conclusion, sherlock
