Vinted seller won’t send item because I was on holiday mode when I bought it

I found an Osprey 70l backpack on Vinted for £40. Obviously I bought it right away because it was an absolute bargain, I don’t think the seller really knew what they were selling.

They’re due to send it by today, but haven’t because I was in holiday mode when I bought the item. I’ve explained to them that I had been away, but I am home and had just forgotten to turn it off.

They’re saying that they don’t believe I’ll pick the item up so won’t be sending it. Obviously they’ve realised that they could sell the same item for £100 so don’t want to send it, but AIBU to think this an incredibly shitty thing to do?!

I used to love vinted but I’ve had so many issues recently. Last three things I’ve bought haven’t been sent, an item i posted is lost and one that did turn up had the wrong label on so buyer got something completely different. So frustrating!

Just ask them when they’re relisting it and buy it again. If they increase the price call them out.

their logic is crazy. I’m on holiday mode because I’m too busy to send any parcels right now. Not because I’m on holiday

This.

As a seller it’s on you to check prices on items when listing which I do not just on Vinted but I’ll also compare to what it may be up for on EBay etc. Sure, if you then realise you’ve priced too low edit it. But to instead effectively cancel the sale claiming it’s yours buyers fault as you don’t believe they will collect is shitty. Because if you don’t collect it’s sent back to the seller anyway. So f it got lost before that could happen buyer I think would still get £ back? At least be honest.

I agree. Also the seller has the right to back out, there is no obligation to sell.

I once got an offer accepted on a diamond pendant on e-bay from an estabished jewellers. It was a bargain price, not ridiculous, but i thought they were just clearing stock at low margins to generate revenue. But it must have turned out to be an error because they suddenly pulled out of the sale saying they'd "lost" the item. I think they just realised the error when they looked again at the piece.

I wasn't too bothered, yeah i'd missed out on a bargain, but i think it was a honest error and i'm not going to create a fuss. I haven't lost anything at the end of the day, and i'm not the sort of person who enjoys fleecing other people.

Exactly.

BigMartin · 02/10/2026 14:33

My account has been on holiday mode for months. It hasn’t stopped people sending the items I have bought.

TwinklyAmberSloth · 02/10/2026 15:12

@lovemeincoming on the chat invoice thing does it say if the seller has printed the label or a QR code has been issued?

If they don't post it then I think that it automatically times out and the seller then gets an automated 1* rating.

I wouldn't agree to any cancellation. If they won't post for such silly reasons then they deserve the negative feedback.

Lots of people put the holiday setting on for various reasons!

amylou8 · 02/10/2026 15:20

Vinted is the wild west for reselling. You have to treat it as such. It's not a done deal until it's in your hand and not falling apart. If you're not up for the gamble pay a bit more and use Ebay.

WimbyAce · 02/10/2026 15:23

I put something on once without doing my research and it sold so quickly I had a look into it and realised I could get more money. I just cancelled the sale and relisted at higher price. Got auto neg feedback but the money was worth more to me.

Lucyintheskywithnoidea · 02/10/2026 15:31

I sold a tent for much less than it was worth, I had lots of messages including a couple that pointed out that I could get four times the price and that potential buyers were likely to resell it for more. I knew what it was worth but it was very kind of them to point it out.

That is what I'm guessing has happened. If I saw it, I'd message them too.

lovemeincoming · 02/10/2026 17:18

I just don’t agree that the seller is entitled to cancel because they want more money. This isn’t just a backpack you get for the fun of it, it’s serious kit and you have an awareness of the price and value when you buy. If you want that much back, list it properly!

OP posts:
ItsOnlyMee1 · 02/10/2026 17:24

They should have researched the price before listing. But if they are not going to post it there is no point getting all worked up about it.

Yes, they fucked up, and that's a bit annoying. I can't see that they've broken any rules, they can choose who they sell to.

They don't owe you anything, you're not out of pocket and you haven't lost loads of time and effort or anything, it's just a bit of a let-down.

Agapornis · 02/10/2026 17:47

Ask them how you can prove that you're back from holiday. Or send a selfie in front of a really boring road/building near ish you. Or perhaps one in front of your local InPost locker with that day's newspaper 😅

SouthLondonMum22 · 02/10/2026 08:10

I think it's more shitty to buy something you know full well isn't priced correctly and then get annoyed when the seller realises and changes their mind as they are entitled to.

Bullshit, are we supposed to pause and ask the seller if we’re sure they want to sell something now?

No. But if the seller somehow finds out and then cancels which they have every right to, don't sulk and feel entitled to the cheap price you knew full well was taking the piss anyway.

You tried, it didn't work out. That's Vinted more often than not.

buying something at the price someone else OFFERED is not "trying" or taking the piss😂what are you on about?

If you commit to sell something, then you should sell it. Stupid to change your mind about prices later. No one made you post an item at a low price, if it was the wrong price, you are an idiot and a CF if you cancel the sale before sending.

They are allowed to change their mind. It's CF to feel entitled to someone else's things at a cheap price to the point you don't believe they should be allowed to change their mind.

Hiredgun · 02/10/2026 20:37

You’ll get over it.

I once put a record up for sale on EBay without realising its value and it sold within minutes. This prompted me to check its value which was over 10 X what I listed it as.

I explained this to the buyer and they threw the biggest hissy fit and became abusive and left me negative feedback. Fine, I accepted it and moved on. Within a few months my rating was back up to 100% and the record sold for it’s true value.

Lesson learned.

True, I think the number 1 rule of Vinted is not to take it to heart. As long as you don’t lose any money you just have to take the bad with the good and crack on with it.

yes, they are "allowed" but it's not kindergarten. How pathetic to put something for sale and then go back, I change my mind, I am not sending it to you anymore 😂

It's CF to feel entitled to someone else's things at a cheap price the seller chose the price, they were happy with it.

Actually, no, they shouldn't be allowed to change their mind and waste everybody's time.
Especially on Vinted, when other similar items the buyer could have bought instead are probably gone by now.

Change your mind fine, but account should get at least suspended for a few weeks then. Bet people would miraculously manage to stick to their offers!

and then they weren't happy with it so changed it. I don't see what's pathetic about that considering Vinted allows it. I imagine the other similar items were much more expensive.

I'm sure they would take a suspended account for a bit if it means getting the corrected amount of money in return.

If people want the "correct"amount of money, they should sell for the correct amount. If they can't manage to do that, maybe they shouldn't sell at all 😂it's not that hard. I am not sure why you insist on excusing people being so stupid.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/10/2026 00:34

Actual shops - commercial premises - are perfectly within their rights to refuse to sell something for any reason, including because it was incorrectly priced through human error; an item is an invitation to offer to buy, not a non negotiable contract they cannot exit.

If a retailer cannot be compelled to sell something, nobody is going to bring in laws to force a random flogging off their used clothes and bags to do differently.

You’re just miffed because you haven’t managed to screw them over. Greedy, greedy, greedy.
