Vinted seller won’t send item because I was on holiday mode when I bought it

I found an Osprey 70l backpack on Vinted for £40. Obviously I bought it right away because it was an absolute bargain, I don’t think the seller really knew what they were selling.

They’re due to send it by today, but haven’t because I was in holiday mode when I bought the item. I’ve explained to them that I had been away, but I am home and had just forgotten to turn it off.

They’re saying that they don’t believe I’ll pick the item up so won’t be sending it. Obviously they’ve realised that they could sell the same item for £100 so don’t want to send it, but AIBU to think this an incredibly shitty thing to do?!

I can't blame them if they realized they made a mistake with proving really. Vinted allows sellers to change their mind, though I believe they get negative feedback.

I can. If you agree to sell something at that price, you should honour it.

I think it's more shitty to buy something you know full well isn't priced correctly and then get annoyed when the seller realises and changes their mind as they are entitled to.

TremendousFlatulence · 02/10/2026 08:16

Vinted is a bit of a cesspit really. It somehow manages to make eBay look good and that takes some doing because eBay is so shit since all their dumb changes trying to make themselves more like...Vinted.
You're probably just going to have to swallow this one. You can't force the seller to sell to you so your options are limited to precisely zero.

bullshit, if something is priced on vinted cheap then its fair game even if the seller hasnt realised they can get more for it, thats the sellers fault

Catza · 02/10/2026 08:20

Have you turned the holiday mode off now? If so, What's their justification for not sending it and can you get any support from vinted?

morart · 02/10/2026 08:21

You are applying the logic of seller realising its worth without any idea of that’s what’s actually happened. Perhaps it’s just true that they are not happy to send because they do not think you will collect. Everyone and their cat has a story on Vinted so maybe they just aren not believing yours?

You say ‘obviously they’ve realised they can sell the same item for £100’ but I just don’t see a single thing that makes that remotely true, let alone ‘obvious’

It’s unfortunate but you forgot to switch mode so it seems you are the reason they won’t send.

But obviously all it was worth to them was £40, I’m obviously going to buy it when it’s priced well?

I’ve turned holiday mode off now I’ve realised, but even if I didn’t collect it just gets sent back to them? So I don’t know what the issue is?

and they are obviously going to change their mind as vinted allows if they have realised they can get more for it.

PumpkinSpicedFattie · 02/10/2026 08:34

Just ask them when they’re relisting it and buy it again. If they increase the price call them out.

their logic is crazy. I’m on holiday mode because I’m too busy to send any parcels right now. Not because I’m on holiday

ilovebrie8 · 02/10/2026 08:35

Vines is full of chancers.

I bought a perfume expensive brand and it was a fake …seller said i couldn’t prove it was fake and vinted did zilch they took ages to reply and weren’t interested.
sellers first response was you can’t prove it!
Another item a face cream when I opened it it was all dried out and half empty …luckily in this case the seller fully refunded me after I sent the pics.

It is what it is buyer beware.

OneOfEachPlease · 02/10/2026 08:37

Either the buyer or the seller can cancel the sale before it sent. They should’ve simply done that rather than leading you on, and now missing their deadline because now they’ll get bad feedback from Vinted and from you.

CorkedWellbeing · 02/10/2026 08:47

Frustrating for you, but not "incredibly shitty".
Vinted is like the wild west and I swear every transaction is a gamble.
My DP once accidentally listed an All Saints shirt for £3 instead of £30. It sold in two minutes but he cancelled the order because as much as he wants share a bargain, he wasn't going to mug himself off to benefit a complete stranger!

That was rather my point. You don't know what the issue is, correct.

Footloosenotfancy · 02/10/2026 08:55

I've given up with Vinted and gone back to Ebay. So many delivery problems and shitty sellers, Ebay is actually looking good again and the app is better. The prices have gone up on Vinted too, or things are cheap for a reason.
I think it is shitty of the Vinted seller, although I've had things not arrive, I suspect for the same reason.

Passaggressfedup · 02/10/2026 10:14

Maybe they were selling on behalf of someone else. Yes, it would be nice to honour it, but they don't have to, just like people can still back off a house sell until the contract is signed.

You shouldn't have celebrated the good deal before it was in your hands.

madaboutpurple · 02/10/2026 10:16

I am impressed with eBay, I had a seller who told me he wasn't sending out my order and nor was he refunding me and there wasn't a thing I could do. I contacted eBay and they said the man was wrong and he was banned from selling things.

This isn’t a shop. They don’t have to honour anything. Vinted is the Wild West – you want to shop there, accept it and navigate it.

OneOfEachPlease · 02/10/2026 13:56

I find Vinted really good as a seller. I’m just selling stuff I’m done with though, not as a ‘job’ or anything. I find eBay increasingly shit - so many scams

HOW would you possibly know it's "priced incorrectly"?

There are many reasons why someone want to sell something "cheap".

When it's too high, people don't buy: it's a used item, not a new one. You can't return it if you are not happy with it or it's the wrong ift.

If you have been given a bag of stuff by someone, you're happier to sell it cheaper but fast, rather than having everything cluttering your hallway.

You have no idea why the item is priced the way it is.

Yes, it's shitty not to send it, waste of time for everybody. Whatever the reason, sellers should be penalised.

dontforgetofeedthecat · 02/10/2026 14:03

The issue would be that they would have to wait weeks for the item to come back to them if it isn't collected, and things can go astray. Plus they'd have to relist it. I can see why they'd not want to go in for that, especially if they have priced it to sell quickly as they need the money.

I agree. Also the seller has the right to back out, there is no obligation to sell.

I once got an offer accepted on a diamond pendant on e-bay from an estabished jewellers. It was a bargain price, not ridiculous, but i thought they were just clearing stock at low margins to generate revenue. But it must have turned out to be an error because they suddenly pulled out of the sale saying they'd "lost" the item. I think they just realised the error when they looked again at the piece.

I wasn't too bothered, yeah i'd missed out on a bargain, but i think it was a honest error and i'm not going to create a fuss. I haven't lost anything at the end of the day, and i'm not the sort of person who enjoys fleecing other people.
