To have something sweet/ pudding every day after dinner?
kind of thought the majority did this but after talking to friends maybe not. So for example after dinner every night will have something sweet eg bar of chocolate, biscuits

Yep. I have a hot chocolate with at least 3 biscuits!

I mean i don't really eat much sweet stuff tbh. But i never understand the Two Squares of DARK chocolate brigade.
You either like sweet things, in which case two squares of bitter choc are not going to do it at all or you are not bothered. So why bother?
Unless it's some sort of good taste/class/not milk like the plebs stealth boast)🙄

You just had to, didn’t you?! You just couldn’t resist getting a bit of shaming in

It's a factual statement / observation, in answer to the question. Nothing shaming about it, unless you choose take it that way.

I have some fruit and a yoghurt normally. But we never have desserts although they were the norm growing up like most families.

we seldom have desserts in restaurants either, more likely to have a starter, if we wish more than one course, and when I have guests, which is often, I seldom do dessert, I will do a cheese board, but seldom dessert.

Sartre · 11/09/2026 07:48

Yep we do. All perfectly normal weights and I’m a long distance runner plus do strength training so feel dessert is probably well earned! What we have varies day to day. Yesterday I decided to make a berry crumble and we had it with custard. I work FT but things like crumble literally take 15 mins to prepare max then 20 mins in the oven so easy.

GREEK yoghurt (it has to be Greek!) ✅
Fruit, fruit. Endless fruit (bonus points for 'berries') ✅
And the MN favourite: Two squares of dark chocolate ✅

This has got to be THE most predictable thread this week.

I’m actually laughing out loud reading it, and I’m a grumpasaurus in the morning so it must be funny.

I always make a pudding on a Sunday, pavlova/STP/tiramisu and because there’s only two of us that’ll last us until Tuesday. On Wednesday I usually make some kind of fruity cake (toffee apple this week).

I eat as intuitively as possible and if I don’t want it I don’t eat it, but if I have room and I do it’s there. No big deal.

How on earth do you possibly know what everyone in your circle eats? Are you the type who constantly discusses diet? A plate watcher maybe?

If you are active you can eat chocolate and other sweet treats.
I eat chocolate or cake every day. I’m slim, I walk a lot, the other two really slim friends of mine eat a lot of crap, they like me have a fast metabolism. I’m sure there are many other people like us.

Of course I don't know what everyone eats, that'd be weird. But the people I do know that do eat pudding / a sweet / a dessert after every main meal, are over weight.

JayJayj · 11/09/2026 07:53

I like something sweet but my husband never has. But that could be a yoghurt or chocolate or fruit. Not necessarily a “sweet”

Sesma · 11/09/2026 08:08

Most of MN seem to eat Greek yogurt with something like Trill on top and a handful of berries, this can't be representative of the whole country

CarpeVitam · 11/09/2026 08:16

Maybe a couple of Rich Tea biscuits or a flapjack. And yes, most days.

Member984815 · 11/09/2026 08:19

No , not usually but I don't like sweet things . Nothing wrong with it if you do

Seajaye · 11/09/2026 08:25

When I had children at home, yes, nearly always a hot or cold pudding or at least a fruit yoghurt.

Now they flown the nest I don't bother most days unless I'm entertaining or it's a weekend treat when I have more time to make something. I do like to use the apples and blackberries from garden to make crumble at this time of year.

I've stopped buying cakes and biscuits as well as I used to have a couple of biscuits with a cup of tea out of habit.. I started putting on weight with menopause so cutting that out was necessary step for me.

MarjorieWestriding · 11/09/2026 08:48

We never have sweet stuff after dinner. I don't like cake and puddings and find most foods with sugar in way too sweet which makes me feel poisoned, so I avoid it all. I've never understood the popularity of cake and puddings, to be honest.

I am concluding that in every town there is one, just the one, really large person (think Mr Creosote) who snaffles the aisles of cakes, frozen puds, chilled desserts and bakery items before swooping around Greggs/Millies cookies/gails bakery (delete as per the socioeconomic status of your town) and hoovering up all the cake. Meanwhile all the keen bakers must bake and dump.

Thecatspantaloons · 11/09/2026 08:56

When I was a smoker, a coffee and a cigarette was my pudding , but now I need a biscuit or something 😩 neither is great.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/09/2026 08:59

I rarely eat pudding but that’s because I don’t have a sweet tooth - cheese board though!

Im generally full after dinner but might have cheese or something a bit later.

Clementine183 · 11/09/2026 09:06

We rarely have official desserts or puddings, but I always snack in the evenings in some form, usually chocolate... I can't imagine not doing so! I was always very slim, have filled out somewhat and have to watch it a bit more now I'm in my 40s but still not overweight. I have a sweet tooth and see it as a pretty harmless pleasure in life, not exactly out of control.

shadowsinthegroceryline · 11/09/2026 09:14

Well, I am currently dealing with an eating disorder, have been drastically restricting my daily calorie intake for some time and underweight according to the BMI calculator, but even I manage to factor a small sweet snack after my, admittedly usually quite pathetic, evening meal into my ridiculous daily calorie allowance. At the moment it's a bag of Aldi sweet and salty popcorn, 60 calories per small pack, which I find satisfies my sweet tooth.
I just thought I would mention this as there seem to be a trend in some of these comments towards suggesting that eating any kind of dessert after dinner is some sort of moral failing, akin to gluttony, and will automatically lead to obesity. I don't think that those who eschew sweet foods are any more virtuous than those that don't. I am also sure that most of the people eating chocolate or cake after dinner are healthier and have a healthier relationship with food than I have with my irresponsible diet! Surely everything in moderation is thebest mantra to live by when it comes to food.

I don’t, ever. But I haven’t got a sweet tooth. Depends on what you like I suppose. 🤷‍♀️

Literally this. I have smaller meals to accommodate this, having a sweet tooth doesn't equate to being a greedy bastard 😀.

AgentJohnson · 11/09/2026 09:26

When eating out yes but rarely to never at home. I never have the room and would prefer to fill up on the main.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/09/2026 09:26

Not daily, and we hardly ever have puddings as such, but I do quite often have a 2 finger KitKat.

Papyrophile · 11/09/2026 09:29

Almost never eat puddings, except a tiny afogato after lunch at my favourite restaurant. I don't have a sweet tooth, particularly after dinner.

RedPony1 · 11/09/2026 10:12

Only when we eat out, never at home unless its a very rare Sunday roast

cerilere · 11/09/2026 10:19

Yes, something small like a yoghurt or lolly.

Swiftie1878 · 11/09/2026 10:23

Only when eating out, and even then, not always.
