AIBU to think that the majority of people in the UK don't have any confidence in the current government, with an unelected Prime Minister at its' helm?

Would people be willing to vote on a petition to have a parliamentary debate on this matter, to encourage this government to have a snap General Election? This would give the people - the tax payers - as say in who is running the country. Democracy in action, if you will.

YANBU - people have a democratic right to vote for who they want to run the country and right now, the majority don't have confidence in the current government.

Winter fuel allowance. My mum put that towards her new skis last year. She took 2 skiing holidays last year, a cruise, a trekking holiday and 3 city breaks. And she STILL gets the winter fuel allowance even after the changes. She fully supports the government saying that pensioners don’t need these freebies and yet the screaming outrage from many pensioners and the media when the government tried to remove it from those like her was hysterical. These people aren’t willing to think of anyone other than themselves. How do you govern in such a situation?

Pensioners on pension credits are better off than those who are just drawing a standard state pension. I see people who have worked all their lives now struggling.

Maybe your petition should focus on this issue. You might have more luck in getting it signed.

We DO have an elected Prime Minister. He was elected by his Party.
Under the constitution, the people vote for the party and the party votes for the PM, subject, in theory, to the King's approval.

EVERY Prime Minister is "unelected" if by that you mean he was not voted in by the electorate.

The older I get (fifties now) the more I realise how little we are being told.

So much happens where we are not told the whole story or full picture and for a while this seemed to have kept everything in order.

Too much is going wrong now and there are too little resources in the UK (rats scrapping in a barrel)

Politicians, even the ones that start out with good intentions, quickly become disillusioned. It's tough to stand up to everyone and try to bring in change which is painful in the short term but necessary for the long term.

I think we have real problems now in the UK. For a long time we got rid of our manufacturing and became a service industry country. Now we appear to be losing that as well and the thought has crossed my mind the taking in immigrants is becoming our next 'industry'. I can't believe money is not changing hands for this. Perhaps it's some kind of political pressure/blackmail or perhaps someone is getting rich of it. A failing, struggling country with unemployed youngsters, crumbling public services and dire finances cannot seriously think taking in unskilled men with dodgy law abiding abilities will benefit the country. Unless of course something is happening that we are not being told about. Like the UK is practically bankrupt and we are getting paid to take them. I mean why not. Some third world countries get paid to take others toxic waste.

Our finances in the UK are in a bad way. We spend more than we raise and so we borrow each month. Bad enough but now the price we pay to borrow has risen quite alot. As our bonds fall due for repayment they will be refinanced at higher interest rates. So we already can't pay our bills without borrowing. Now we will borrow at higher rates (and repay the lower interest bonds) so without doing anything our outgoings will increase. The only way we are getting out of this trap is to reduce our debt and have our interest payments reduced by showing the market the country is taking tough steps to fix things. Until then markets will continue to price the UK as a country losing the plot.

This week our 3rd highest taxpayer announced his plans to leave the country. He pays hundreds of millions of pounds per year in tax.

I afraid we need to change pretty much everything. We need growth and investment because that is the only way in the longer term. In the meantime we need serious financial cuts to just about everything - welfare, triple lock, sen, the whole bloody lot.

Or we keep going until we combust.

I am a proud patriot, and I support the British prime minister, even if I didn’t personally vote for him/her, because I want the country to be strong and to succeed. That means teamwork. I may have different ideas, which I will express at the next general election. Until then, I don’t think that sniping at the government will achieve anything other than to weaken it. Which is clearly what you hope for. Take your ulterior motives elsewhere.

Your AIBU vote is flawed. I don't have a great deal of confidence but I absolutely do not want another general election. You cannot assume that people who are dissatisfied with the government so far would automatically want another GE. We have already wasted a shit tonne of money re-electing the incompetent reform idiot to his post, the last thing this country needs is to spunk yet more money on pointless elections.

You're asking a ridiculous question and you probably know it. At any given time in history a proportion of people will not have confidence in any government. That would have been true if you'd done a poll at any time in the past several hundred years so I'm sure it's true now. All that tells you is that not everyone is 100% satisfied with the government. Outside of North Korea or maybe China, that would be true of every country in the world.

As to whether this government is more or less popular than previous ones, it's a bit early to say, they've only had their feet under the desk for a few weeks but I'd say they are definitively more popular than the last one (and the one before). Again, that really doesn't tell you much.

Then you pivot into talking about sex crimes out of nowhere: unclear why this topic in particular has been highlighted which leads me to conclude it's a bit of trolling.

If you want to troll, at least find a proper thesis to troll with, instead of asking the blandest and most meaningless questions.
