The same ilk will state they're against the burkha and protests by environmental groups etc. but are happy to mask their faces in 'protest' the reality is they're just nasty specimens of humanity, full of people with self righteous white supremacy tendencies. But the pro Palestine marches, for example, or the marches against the Iraq war followed these laws and were allowed to go ahead. They still made headline news and drew attention and debate - both positive and negative - to their cause. I don’t see why these men couldn’t do the same.

I live in Kent and the sight of men all in black with their faces covered made me feel uneasy. Moseley and his black shirts sprang to mind. This was a show of force by the right and I don’t ever want it on our streets.

Hardly. You do know that they weren’t all white men don’t you? My next door neighbour went with his brothers and they are Nigerian. Born in Nigeria by the way. He moved here in his early 20s. He has the St George’s flag flying on a flagpole in his back garden.

I don’t believe people who cover their face to protest have good intentions. They might plan to use violence or are actually pretenders looking to sully the cause.

I know that sometimes the government abuses power and people end up arrested unfairly. If a cause is just and people know they are protesting correctly, accepting those unfair consequences sometimes just has to be part of the protest. Seeing the injustice can help inspire the rest of the population.

I was confused when I first saw the photos of the Dover protests because they were dressed like the self-styled Antifa thugs who have been wearing black bloc for years - first in the US and then copied by European TRAs.

So now the Far Left and the Far Right both dress in black and mask up.

I loathe it. The tactic is cowardly and designed to intimidate.

I have been going on demos and protests for 40 years. I have never covered my face. I have always believed in the cause I have supported and have been willing to engage in conversation both with the police and with people on the other side of an issue. I have never felt the need to hide my face or my beliefs.

I support the right to peaceful protest but would like to see this kind of behaviour (wearing masks and balaclavas) banned in public other than face masks for medical reasons (and those are totally different as they show so much more of the face).

What happened to free speech that's currently being discussed on the Reform conference thread? It's make it up as you go along with freedom of assembly as well. Nobody was listening to Jews when they were threatened by the violent Palestinian marchers. As for the KKK reference, oh please.

Most Nigerians I know are unhappy about the colonial past but only discuss a view if someone else brings it up, and unhappy about the modern day oil companies pillaging their country, they probably wouldn"t fly English/British flags in their garden, they believe that having the legal visas and being willing to work legitimise them being here without over-identification with the country they have moved to, not sure they would bother to protest a fringe problem such as boats arriving illegally TBH, I"m Scottish but don"t feel the need to fly flags and play Braveheart music very often.

The blokes at Dover yesterday managed to disrupt hauliers and tourists. I doubt they had one iota of impact on any illegal immigrants. They seem to get off on intimidation, and yes, they give off Blackshirt vibes. I don't think anyone hiding behind a mask to protest, whether they be pro Palestine or anti- immigration has the courage of their convictions. They're the type who enjoy a bit of thuggery.
