To find make-up weird

I kind of get foundation because it can cover spots, blotches and blemishes. But to “enhance” perfectly good eyes with black lines and smudges (eyeshadow) and to colour in your lips - I don’t know, isn’t it all a bit odd when you think about it? (Most) men don’t wear it so why do women? Just a thought! 🤣

My make up evens out my skin tone. I am naturally red faced. I look way younger and fresher with foundation, a neutral eyeliner and lipstick. I am 54. I didn't bother with make up until I was 30.

Yeah I’m confused by that. Back in the 90s some of my friends wore nail polish and eyeliner, but they don’t anymore 🤷‍♀️

God I love mascara. Love it. Haven’t used foundation in years. My eyes are lovely as they are and I’m very grateful for them but they look prettier with liner and mascara and I enjoy the process of doing it.

There are loads of weird things we do. That’s okay.

Western men don't wear it now but they used to, at least in some historical eras and in some facets of society. Women didn't wear it then as it wasn't seemly eg. Then women did wear it and it damaged them because there was poison in it without them knowing etc. Tribal people wear versions of makeup, it's been around as long as humans have created things to adorn themselves.

Some men I'm other societies stillwell makeup now, kohl around eyes etc. The western social media make up fashions make it look more all prevailing here so I do know what you mean, but tbh I sometimes say to my husband "now imagine a chimpanzee doing that" when you see people on a tandem or doing silent discos, we love to invent ways to fill our time that looks bizarre if you really think of it 😄

No makeup usually means looking pasty and tired with small eyes and lips that look

Well, in nature males have the colourings round their eyes etc!
Seriously, apparently highlighting eyes/colouring lips etc can make us look younger and more fertile. Blood flow/health etc.
Sparkly blue glitter? Not sure about that.

It's really sad that you're so brainwashed to be negative about how women's faces look naturally...but I'm sure you don't think the same of men not wearing make-up.

I loved make up when I was younger but when I hit mid 50s I just couldn't be arsed anymore.
Now I'm mid 60s I don't dye either.
All the time (and money!) was worth it at the time. I was gorgeous!😁
Now I enjoy being invisible. A lather of face cream and I'm good to go!

Given that you have no clue what I look like, that's quite a call! But, no, I don't. I just look like a person wearing make-up, which both isn't necessary, and isn't really a good look in my opinion. I'll stick to lip balm and moisturiser.

There was nothing sexier than a miner coming back from a shift. Shower in the pit baths but still a line of coal dust around their eyes. Like Adam Ant but with muscles.

Not really. Humans have always had beauty rituals to enhance their looks. I don't see anything wrong with makeup, but I personally don't like when it's caked on like a mask.

It's also irrelevant that most men don't wear makeup. Why should that be a reason why women can't or shouldn't wear it? I don't want to be or act the same as men, so I don't like it when women use men as the standard we should alugn ourselves with. No thanks.

Just me, but I have always found it weird. I remember girls in school covering themselves in it, and I found it odd to see my peers literally paint themselves.

I started using make up in my 20s, and I felt like I was having a battle with it TBH. I hated the feel of it, but felt expected to wear it by my peers.
I was constantly in the loo checking it and touching it up. It made me anxious!

40s now, and I have not use any for over a decade. My face is my face. I am not going to paint over it for anyone.

I don't find it weird, but I do wonder why people think make up makes them look better. I get it if you have acne etc. But why do people consider black eyelashes look better than blonde eyelashes? The other day I looked at pictures of people before and after putting on make up, and suddenly all i could see was a load of make up on naturally beautiful faces. Now j can't unsee it. We have really been conditioned to think eyes with make up look more beautiful than those without.

If that were true women would mascara their facial hair and walk into parties with their heads tilted sideways - one of my favourite Ben Elton jokes, always makes me laugh when it pops into my head.

Men used to do it. Men still do it in lots of cultures. Men in eye makeup are hot.
Women aren't the anomaly here. Men are. Layers between reality are sexy. Its what makes lingerie sexy, its why a topless man is sexier than a naked man
