What would be much more useful is saying “direct cremation please and then go to the pub, there’s £1500 in my bank account for that”.

Dealing with your corpse still requires decisions and money so make it easy for them.

Seems you’ve made your decision not to have one until you inherit, so what was the point of this post?

If you have a pension, is it one you take out when you retire and then invest to provide a pension? If so, the lump sum should be mainly left (or some at least) when you die

You'll need it witnessed. What about back accounts? Even if there's two quid in it you need to say where it goes.

No, I’m asking about the pension. Most pensions nowadays you take a lump sum and it is invested by experts, and then you get an income every month from the interest (may eat into the capital depends how much you take each month). Then whatever is left when you die is still there to be left to whoever you want it to be.

@DurinsBane Pension will (hopefully) just about cover the rent and bills so there won't be any to invest unfortunately. If not, I will need to look for top-up work. There won't be any left over.

I don't really understand why you're bothering with all these questions though. You could have written a bloody will in the time it took to post all these.

As I say it's caused a lot of heartache for me but you seem more interested in what abouts so ill leave you to those.

You should have medical and financial power of attorney (not sure what it's called on the UK.) sorted out. You could also do an affordable online will for possessions if you'd like.

OP this appears to be the real issue here. You sound quite sad. I don’t think writing a will has much to do with it.

I think posters are saying that dealing with an estate without a will is a big logistical hassle, even if the venue is low.

@NoNotDolly No - I've just got nothing to leave when I die. My sons won't need my £2! They are very fortunate financially and also very bright so they will be absolutely fine 😀 I am very pleased for them ❤️

No one knows your families health and dynamic better than you so if you think it's absolutely pointless than who is anyone to argue! However sadly even with the happiest of families, people can show their true colours when someone passes, so if you want to make sure they end up with their rightful owners, I'd do a will! You could even make a joke of it when you write it up and give everyone a laugh when they read it when you're gone!
