I assumed they already do this regularly from the OP but you're right this is first step, shouldn't assume.

Could you have tonsil stones? They cause horrendous breath .

So you have booked a dentist and hygienist appointment, yes?

Nikkinic87 · 26/08/2026 15:34

I have regular cleans and have mild pockets ! Last clean was 2 months ago! How quickly can bad smells accumulate?
I have booked an appointment for Friday.
Reason it's come to a head is a nurse I work with was speaking to me and after speaking to me she left a packet of mints near my desk after taking one for herself ! I was a bit perplexed and upset and after half hour I just thought I'd test.tje water and asked if i could have one as I had just had a.coffee ! She just did they weren't hera and she borrowed them and was simply returning them :( I'm not sure if she was dropping the most unsubtle hint ever or not

You poor thing! I had terrible breath when my gum disease was really bad, after a year of regular hygienist I've finally reversed it and I'm in a much better place. Keep doing what you are doing, it will work. As other suggested think about your diet, as there are some foods which make breath worse and exacerbate gum disease.

Nikkinic87 · 26/08/2026 15:37

What foods can make this worse ? I do drink coffee though I always have lots of water to hand and take a bottle of cb12 to work ! Plus always chew gum ! It's ruling my life

You have got yourself in to this state over that one exchange?

Nikkinic87 · 26/08/2026 15:46

It's not just that ! I've noticed people back away and someone once commented my breath sometimes smells and since then I have tried to make sure it doesn't get mentioned again! I suppose when you have had a breath problem every interaction you have gets magnetised!

Try monthly cleans for a while, I had bad gum disease and some bad teeth. Had the teeth out but smell remained, did monthly cleans with the hygienist for 8 months and finally reversed it and no more bad breath. I kept mints on me at all times and would pop one every hour or so.

I may have to ask for monthly cleans ! Only thought you could have 3 monthly cleans ! Thank you

Bless you. Maybe look into coconut oil flushing, can’t think of the correct name but supposed to be great for gum health. An oral probiotic
Best of luck

Butterflyvillage · 26/08/2026 15:56

Gargling with bicarbonate of soda, mixed with water (google the recipe) can really help reduce bad breath. It's what I use every day. 😁

worrisomeasset · 26/08/2026 15:57

I can always tell when DH is feeling stressed because it makes his breath smell bad. It’s not an issue when he’s chilled.

Maamam · 26/08/2026 15:57

Tonsil stones?

Take a torch and look at your tonsils behind your back molars.

Cuppachuchu · 26/08/2026 16:02

Have you tried using Corsodyl mouth wash?
It is much more efficient than the likes of Listerine.
Coffee gives me smelly breath, I always drink a couple of glasses of water after one.

Tonsil stones is a good call. They absolutely reek!

Superfoodie123 · 26/08/2026 16:04

The cb12 is stripping your mouth of good bacteria. Sounds like a gut issue.

Nonna67 · 26/08/2026 16:12

@Nikkinic87 If you lick the back of your hand with the furthest away part of your tongue, then let it dry, then smell your hand - this is what your breath smells of

HoldMyWine · 26/08/2026 16:13

Do you drink plenty of water?

Nikkinic87 · 26/08/2026 16:20

Sooooo much water ! I always take a sip before speaking to someone! Plus always chewing mints ! I take probiotics too ! I have interdental sticks and use them on my break to make sure my breath smells fresher

Have you had a deep, clean and root planing, or just the above gumline scale and polish. Have they recommended corsodyl mouthwash and gum repair toothpaste.

Nikkinic87 · 26/08/2026 16:22
