AIBU to ask what is happening in Middlesbrough at the moment?

What's going on in Middlesbrough anyone live there?

This house fire may be linked to criminal activities at the weekend, where the policemen were killed.

Just before the crash on Saturday somebody's house had been rammed with a vehicle doing extensive damage to the house? They set out in their car trying to find them and retaliate.

It said it's happened to other houses as well?

Is this all linked to drugs?

It's horrible. Where's it going to end? Why would you want to be mixed up in all that?
Is it worth your life?

A police officer is stood facing a badly burnt property. The roof has caved in and exposed the wooden beams. An alley runs down next to the property and it has a wooden fence on one side

I think the families' point is that the "boys" were chased onto the A66. If there hadn't been a chase, they wouldn't have been going the wrong way on that road. Not that any of that changes the fact that responsibility lies with them.

Middlesbrough is a town of 2 halves, one half is high end, wealthy, beautiful houses, the other half is feral and almost lawless with a massive drig problem. The current problems involve organised crime groups, the police haven't ruled out a connection between the house fire and the crash, possibly rival gangs, maybe not, but they are keeping an open mind

The NE has been neglected for many years, they regularly obtain the lowest qualifications of any region. Yes Middlesbrough is “technically” North Yorkshire but it’s the north east really. In some areas of Middlesbrough 35% of residents have no qualifications at all. Wherever poverty, low education and government neglect are, crime will follow.

Low education, low aspirations, no regard for the law or sense of personal responsibility, yes. But I'm not convinced you can blame government neglect or lack of investment.

Throwing yet more taxpayer money at the same people doesn't solve the problem.

Apologies, I’ve not read the whole thread but my understanding is that the 7 year old girl and her aunt who were the victims in the house fire murder were connected to one of the boys who died in the A66 crash and police are not ruling out that it could be linked to people who rammed the house of one of the boys’ father which was the start of the whole incident.
