Do female leaders and managers make better managers ?

MrsPhilippaPippaVoss · Yesterday 00:54

theres often talk about females being better than men and that if women had control of the world etc the world would be better and since they have not achieved that yet, part of the question can be answered by me asking do females / women make better managers than males and why ?

My current manager is a woman
she is ruining my life
bullying, gaslighting abuse

I am physically sick with panic all the time
she enjoys creating division and mistrust

so no, in my experience absolutely not

Lol you must be working with my past boss.

Im my experience men managers are better.
My past jobs with women managers were awful, some of them picked who they wanted to like and the rest got treated like crap.

One bullied me and other staff so much, she got removed from the role.
Another one said she had to let me go along with 2 others, just to find out she wanted to have her daughter and her friends to work there, the whole place went bust in a few months.

Another one i felt like slapping, poor woman near me use to faint due to cramps and migraines lose sight in one eye, she was told to stop making a fuss take some pain killers and get on with it or get out.
That was the very job i walked out from 8 year ago i got up got my bag and walked out never went back told her to go fuck herself.
Above lady is lovely very sweet woman we still talk she works in the job center now, said boss got the sack in the end.

My manager now is a man and he`s great.

Jacinda ran New Zealand exceptionally well. It must be one of the few places that had no deaths from Covid. She seems to have been amazing.

There is evidence that the Countries with female leaders had fewer Covid deaths, also patients are less likely to do when looked after by female Drs. So I would say women are better at keeping people alive.

Early academic analyses, such as those reviewed by the <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&rct=j&url=news.uq.edu.au/2022-06-16-female-leadership-attributed-fewer-covid-19-deaths&ved=2ahUKEwjjlNj7-b2WAxVYUkEAHdUhHZgQy_kOegoIAggACAEIEhAC&opi=89978449&cd&psig=AOvVaw18_h37B2F1BiPHY5IU9Yjr&ust=1787821967633000" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">University of Queensland Research, pointed out that nations governed by female leaders (e.g., New Zealand, Taiwan, Germany) often experienced lower per capita mortality during the initial 2020 phase of the pandemic.

However, broader multi-year global datasets indicate that per capita death rates ultimately correlated heavily with underlying population health factors (such as average age and obesity rates), baseline healthcare capacity, and timing of viral introduction rather than the gender of the political leader alone.

Hope you'll be happy that you can now discard your outdated information.

In all my years working, males have definately been the best managers, until now. My f boss is the best boss i've ever had.

Maisymouse2 · Yesterday 10:19

Males.

VieuxFort · Yesterday 10:20

Punctuation is your friend. Do not fear it.

Good managers can be male or female. HTH.

CanSeeClearlyNowTheRainHasGone · Yesterday 10:23

In the early days of my career I used to love having female managers. They were so much better.

But that was because there were far fewer who had managed to break the barrier i to management and so they were the best of their group

Now I see little in it, and I don't even see a particularly marked difference in the ways they're bad.

My biggest bugbear is managers who cannot understand that their plan represented their original best guess of how a project would go, and is an estimate only. And that I'm not running late (and "need to work unpaid overtime to catch up") just because you put an unreasonably low estimate.of effort so your overall plan would appear viable.

I assume that was sarcasm/irony.

If it was a genuine belief, then for full facts, including the 3000+ deaths, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_pandemic_in_New_Zealand

I’ve had probably 50/50 in terms of direct line managers over my career. The best one was male and the worst was female. The rest were a mixture. I don’t think gender really comes into it, I couldn’t care less as long as they’re good to work for. My experiences tell me you need a mixture of different types of people leading.

MN is obsessed with all men and bad and all women are good.

6ate9 · Yesterday 10:36

@MrsPhilippaPippaVoss “there have been various threads over the years about women being in charge and how there would be no wars etc”

There would still be wars!

The pressures of leadership, such as securing resources, protecting national sovereignty, and maintaining political power transcend gender.

ChamonixMountainBum · Yesterday 10:55

TeenToTwenties · Yesterday 05:50

In management women as a group would probably skew to different positive and negatives than men.

However as world leaders, possibly there would be fewer wars given that women are less violent and maybe not so much risk takers. But you would need no men in power anywhere.

What could be interesting is to take the vote away from men to see how that shifts everyone's focus.

If men dissappeared from any sort of government or global decision making the power vacuum and will just be filled with just as ambitious women who would not think twice of using the levers of control at their disposal to advance themselves and shit on others. The same fight for resources, trade and geopolitical power would still exist.

CanSeeClearlyNowTheRainHasGone · Yesterday 11:03

If you're genuinely after evidence then maybe you should look into the coroners report on Chloe Moffett.

The head of global issues at the Treasury, who was running the investigation into Moffat, said during the coroner’s hearing that she did not give Moffat prior notice of the meeting because “she did not want Chloe to worry about it”. She had also told the court that when Moffat asked in tears whether she would lose her job, she had replied that she could not predict the outcome of any potential investigation.

Given that she's been slated for doing the wrong thing and contributing to Chloe's suicide I think we can prove that not ALL women are great managers. And by logical extension, you can't reasonably assert the world would be a better place if run by women. And that it's pretty sexist to even make that argument, stereotyping sexes again.

CorporalJohn · Yesterday 12:19

The best boss I ever had was a lady solicitor. I was her deputy. She said she found managing men a great deal easier than managing women.

Make of that what you will.

BeMellowAquaSquid · Yesterday 12:21

I’m a female people manager I’ve been a manager around 15 odd years and I like to think I’m a good manager because I’ve learned from some really great and really poor managers both male and female. The worst manager I had happened to be female, my favourite manager was a male although not necessarily the best. The best manager I have ever had was female.

ByLoftyUmberOtter · Yesterday 13:50

Sometimes the worst people (men & women) are drawn to management positions for power & salary increase not necessarily them being cut out to be great at it unfortunately

Deadringer · Yesterday 15:41

In my admittedly small sample of experience my female bosses have been better. The males tended to be lazier and less on the ball than the females. In general I think women are more focused on people rather than projects, are more empathetic, and pay better attenion to detail all of which are good management skills. I worked in retail for a long time and saw a lot of my male colleagues promoted to manager over the females, they were definitely promoted because they were male and wouldn't be having babies, that was years ago tbf and I hope that has changed for the better.

Pistachiocake · Yesterday 16:01

Just like skin colour/age etc, it's irrelevant. Had good and bad of both sexes.

Some say women are more sympathetic about childcare, but I've seen women managers who are rich/have lots of family help scoffing at underlings who aren't so lucky.

Just like some say that they've been treated less gently by female gynaecologists, as if because they're women and don't find something painful, no other woman should have the right to!

Violet76 · Yesterday 19:39

Two great managers stick out on my career, one female and the other male. My worst ever manager was a woman - she was a vindictive bully.

Whyhaveibeencutoutofmamsnot · Yesterday 20:00

I have had some bloody awful female managers - absolute bitches who will walk over everyone to reach the top. They have no understanding of work life balance for others but are out of the door asap themselves

im not saying it’s because she’s a woman, she’s just vile 😩
i will never ever understand the ability to inflict such damaging behaviour on others

I am very naive, believe success flourishes by treating people as you would want to be treated, encouraging success, nurturing a trusting environment

Clearly why I’m not a high flyer 😂
would rather have my soul any day

thats the thing it does kinda prove that if females ruled the world overall in all management positons they could still cause various mixed effects across the globe

Women consistently vote in favour of male bosses. They feel even more strongly than men.

Queens are statistically more likely to start a war than kings apparently. I do wonder if it's because they dont have to actually fight in them.

I mean, most female politicians can't define what a woman is. And it was a woman who supported putting male sex offenders in women's prisons.
