Apparently octopus are highest rated in UK currently shall I switch to them for energy?

I've been with Octopus for years and am very happy with them. There was an issue with our billing earlier in the year but it was quickly resolved. I have no complaints.

SnortCorner · 25/08/2026 11:14

We're with Octopus and definitely rate them. After wrangling with our previous energy provider for years about our smart meter not working, Octopus were able to send an engineer out within a week, who arrived when they said he would, diagnosed the problem within about 15 mins and then came back the next day to repair it.
We've had no other problems since, so had no need to contact them.

MuchAdoAboutSomething26 · 25/08/2026 11:14

No complaints here either.

shellyleppard · 25/08/2026 11:16

Octopus are a brilliant company. They are UK based and the customer service team are excellent. Been with them for years and no complaints.
They also do energy saving offer's, so use less energy on certain time's in the week gives you free energy at the weekend.

CasperGutman · 25/08/2026 11:18

We switched to them when we had our solar/battery system installed. There was an issue with the billing early on - we weren't being credited for the export due to an issue with the metering - but I emailed them and they were responsive and helpful.

Their tariffs offer great value and their app and website seem innovative and offer useful features compared with previous suppliers. I would say they sometimes feel like they lack a bit of polish, but that's a small price to pay for the functionality IMO.

Me too.

Never had an issue with them, been with them for years now.

Happy to share a referral code with anyone who wants one - £50 credit for you and £50 credit for me.

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · 25/08/2026 11:19

We've been very happy with them, after being auto-switched when Bub went under. They seem a lot more honest and transparent than others; I never fully trust energy companies, but I distrust them much less than I distrust the others!!

CosySeal · 25/08/2026 11:20

I was with them for years and had no issues. I have recently switched as found a better tariff elsewhere and they have still not released monies owed to me which is very annoying as it has been months now.

But as a customer, I had no complaints

Another happy octopus 🐙 customer here, I’m on a smart meter with them for both gas and electricity and when the new meters were installed the engineer didn’t pair them up properly with the smart reader. Phone call to octopus and a lovely lady talked me through exactly how to fix the issue.

Catza · 25/08/2026 11:22

I am currently with Octopus and I love it. They also recently piloted low standing charge plan which I am trialing for a year. Quite nice to see my gas bill half as a result (although not sure what the impact might be in winter with higher unit cost).

Thesockthief · 25/08/2026 11:22

We’ve been with them since being switched when Bulb went under. No complaints here either. The free hour of electricity that you get from time to time is useful too.

SorryforyourlossMoveon · 25/08/2026 11:29

I've been with Octopus for 5+ years. A few niggles with house moves, but always dealt with very quickly.
I very much miss my weekly free Cafe Nero, but overall they've been great.

cloudtreecarpet · 25/08/2026 11:32

I am with them and happy with their service so far.
After my elderly parents had problems with EDF, I helped them to switch over too. Octopus were soooo much easier to deal with & so helpful with them.

EDF, on the other hand, were absolutely awful, very unhelpful & downright rude most of the time - definitely avoid them at all costs!

Thanks, have sent it to you but MN quite rightly checking it's not spam first!

Their tariff for electric car charging overnight is excellent.

IsItSnowing · 25/08/2026 11:37

We got put with them when our previous supplier went bust and they've been really good. We have the car charging tariff which is great value and they are very responsive to queries. They also arranged our solar panel installation and that went very smoothly.

fishonabicycle · 25/08/2026 11:38

No complaints! Much better than British gas (who were bloody awful)

HowardTJMoon · 25/08/2026 11:38

On the whole they're ok but I've had an absolutely chaotic house move with them that took months to properly resolve. During that time I was getting bills that were pretty much just random numbers as well as being pursued by the previous supplier as Octopus had screwed up the handover with them as well. To their credit Octopus did finally work out what had gone wrong and get it fixed but it took way longer than it should have.

bluescarf · 25/08/2026 11:41

Great from our experience.

Cheaper than British Gas - very easy to understand bills and tariffs (unlike British Gas) 🤯

Emails reminding us to do meter readings and monthly email to confirm payment date and amount.

No complaints from us so definitely recommend.

dnasurprise · 25/08/2026 11:46

We are very happy with octopus. have been with them for 5+ years

Seeingadistance · 25/08/2026 11:58

Like others - very happy with Octopus. Was moved to them from Bulb.

I'd advise getting away from Scottish Power as soon as possible and keep a record of every interaction with them. Previous owner of my flat was with Scottish Power and I made mistake of sticking with them. I installed gas for first time in the property and Scottish Power put in the gas meter. When I then switched to Bulb I just cannot describe how awful Scottish Power were. They completely denied being my gas supplier - despite having installed the gas meter and sending me bills! They eventually sent gas meter info to my new supplier but it turned out to have been someone else's meter information that they'd sent. They then denied they'd done that!

It took me about a year - countless very long phone calls, emails and letters to escape from Scottish Power. Every individual person I had contact with was polite and pleasant when they did eventually answer the phone but they never did anything they said they would!

Scottish Power have scarred me for life!

Oh no, I’ve just switched from Octopus for a better deal too and have quite a bit of money on my account, was hoping I’d get it back quite quickly.

They have been really good upto now tho OP

We’ve been with them for about 4 years. They’re fine as long as it’s all ticking on fine, but my mum had an issue with them cocking up a bill and it was so hard to get them to understand that it was wrong…it was simple, the maths didn’t make sense, but if you get someone who’s crap at maths on the customer service side it’s like pulling teeth. She eventually got them to understand but it took repeated calls and emails.

They've also cocked up my bills by refunding and rebilling an entire year of use and doing it wrong, soI’ve been in £1k of fictional credit for around 2 years now cause of their billing failures so I just pay what I use each month and ignore the credit cause I know they will eventually work out their mistake. 🤔I can’t face fighting to make customer service see the issue. Not after seeing how much effort it took mum.

I do also have a family member who worked for them and they felt the quality of the customer service was definitely vastly variable depending on who you got on the end of the phone!
