Husband has ruined dinner

I’m been upstairs packing for a holiday so asked husband to cook dinner, all of the ingredients for a shepards pie are in the fridge/cupboard.
Came down and thought.. That smells nothing like shepards pie. He has poured an entire jar of Passata and half a jar of parsley into the meat.
Im going to beans on toast. My AIBU is this..
YABU.. Sounds fine to me.
YANBU.. He has made bolognese with mash potatoes and gravy.

I can't think I've ever seen dried herbs in tubs - maybe pre-made mixes occasionally.

Herbs and spices come in glass jars - Schwartz if you're feeling flush, own brand if not, but always those little skinny glass jars.

Asda value mixed herbs and similar come in small plastic tubs. Plastic containers. Not glass jars.

For everyone that hasn't heard of jars of dried herbs - what country do you live in?

Oh Ground pepper - that comes in a plastic pot (it's still tall though, so I'd call it a pot rather than a tub I think - or more likely container TBH). Unground comes in jars though still

Exactly - how is it possible to be old enough to post on MN and not know you can buy jars of dried herbs? It's like saying you didn't know sliced bread and tins of baked beans exist.

Laughing at everyone who didn’t know about parsley in a jar. I was the opposite way and didn’t know Parmesan was kept in the fridge and not the cupboard because growing up we always had the tub of Parmesan 😂

Ahh, yes, now you say it - if you buy the bigger containers of mixed then that's plastic - like 'italian herbs' or whatever.

They are the exception, and they are sitting next to the glass jars of herbs and spices.

OK.. but.. a couple of value mixed spices being in plastic doesn't negate the fact that the vast majority of dried herbs, especially single-type ones like the aforementioned parsley, definitely come in jars, pretty much exclusively, and on the same section of shelves as the plastic mixed herb pots.

I have big plastic tubs of dried herbs that I got from the cash n carry but clearly I’m not middle class 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Were the gravy & passata both in with the mince?

If it’s glass it’s a jar. Every supermarket sells dried herbs in glass jars. That doesn’t mean they’re in big jam jars they’re in herb jars.

Op it'll be fine, I use passatta or chopped tomatoes in a cottage pie. Stick a couple of beef stock cubes/pots in, some mixed herbs if you have them, and you'll wonder why youve not used it before.

Bourguignon often has both tomato paste (just a more concentrated Passata) and beef stock.

Yes, Costco also does big plastic jars (I'd call them jars - taller than wide and seethrough) - but the vast majority of people don't need half a kilo of dried parsley in one go, and buy it in little glass jars from the supermarket (and they still go out of date by the time you're getting to the end of it).
