To be annoyed by this neighbour

New neighbour moved into a social housing bungalow behind our house a few months ago. He has been a bit of a nightmare to be honest. He doesn't make excessive noise as such but he is definitely impacting us and our immediate neighbours. Some examples are, letting his dog out for a wee at 6am every morning. It then barks when in the garden. It only barks 2 or 3 times and he ushers it back in the house but it is very loud, waking us up each time. He also has excessively loud phone conversations on speakerphone throughout the day. I mean really loud. I was in my bedroom the other night with the window closed and I could hear everything the person on the end of the line was saying it was that loud. It makes sitting in our garden a bit of a nightmare now to be honest. This happens at least 5 or 6 times throughout the day up until about 10pm. He has a loud car which he loves to rev up constantly and the exhaust has been modified to make it even louder. Is this just normal behaviour these days or do I contact the social housing provider? I will not speak to him direct as I've been warned he's quite aggressive.

You really don’t like people challenging do you? It seems you don’t know how discussion on here works 🙄

No problem with challenges, I have a problem with ignorant rude comments by people who clearly have not read the threads

Is steam actually coming out of your ears? 😂🤣

Nope and I bet that's really annoying for you.

Hi OP, I'm sorry you're dealing with this moronic neighbour and also that you've come here for help and had some really goady replies instead. The social housing is absolutely relevant because it affects how you deal with it. It's a shame you've spoken to him because you've revealed who you are and generally people who act badly aren't amenable to civilised conversations anyway. The PP comments about dogs needing to wee are a nonsense deflection. The dog needs to wee but it doesn't need to bark. It barks because it hasn't been trained not to, and the fact that he brings it in after barking is not good enough. Everyone's already been disturbed. Contact the council for advice. Keep a log for a fortnight of all the early morning barking, all the loud conversations etc and send it to the council. His tenancy agreement will also have rules about how he behaves to neighbours, no intimidation etc. It's good you've got the other neighbour onside and as a witness. Join with them, and any others affected, to put pressure on the council to act. Most councils are pretty good at dealing with this sort of thing but if they drag their feet contact your MP. Don't let the selfish bastard win. Wishing you all the best.

I think the majority of people posting on this thread live in social housing and make.loads of noise with no consideration for anyone who lives around them. That's why they are being so aggressive and defensive😂

Thank you so much. Im more than happy for people to say im being unreasonable but some of the comments I've had to deal with have been unnecessary and hurtful. I've tried to defend myself against some of the more shitty comments but im done now. Thank you for your response, gives me a bit of hope xx

I've clearly inadvertently touched a nerve with some. I never meant to offend, I think some people just enjoy getting wound up or winding up others x

Why is it relevant that the house is social housing?!

My only thought was does he have any idea you can hear every word?

If he knows, he might turn it down!

Would it be obvious if an anonymous note was from you?

I would send something saying, just to let you know people living around can hear every word when you are on speaker phone. No issue, but wanted to advise in case you are ever having a conversation which needs to be confidential

(& I get the relevance to social housing - if you were to report then private rent, council house, owned etc. would make a difference as to where to!)

Anonymous notes are sent by cowards. Imagine being a new person living alone and looking at your neighbours and wondering who sent it.

I'd be annoyed by the car exhaust but the rest of it doesn't seem such a big deal to me. I can't believe someone suggested contacting your MP.

I honestly don't see that he's doing anything unusual or making any more noise than any other neighbour would. Yes the engine would annoy me but again it's hardly unusual. It does from this post sound like you've just taken a dislike to him to be honest.

Oh come on so you think having loud speaker phone conversations multiple times a day and revving a noisy exhaust is normal and you'd be fine with it? Yeah right.

Op it would all annoy the hell out of me too.

However, I doubt the housing provider will care as he's not doing anything illegal. They'll be regularly dealing with anti social behaviour and noise on the extreme end of the spectrum so they're unlikely to care much about this tbh.

I think the best thing to start with is to say "hello how are things are you settled in yet, have a few pleasantries then word it along the lines of "I'm sure you don't want me overhearing every word of your private conversations so I'm just letting you know that the noise really carries" and see if he takes the hint and lowers the volume. He probably won't though!

Or just non confrontational, or safe if you know he’s aggressive
