Which burger would you prefer?-Cultural differences?

Stopshoutingtv · Yesterday 21:55

Option A: Bbq burger on a burger bap with cheese, ketchup, salad, wedges and corn on the cob

Option B: Grilled burger (no bap etc) with plain pasta and salt

We had Dds friend over for lunch after Dd asked her if she wanted to come for burgers and toasted marshmallows. She was quite confused about the burger as has it like option B at home, aside from at McDonald’s.

Which burger do you prefer and can anyone guess which country we’re in?

OP posts:

I don't mind either tbh. We had grilled burgers with pasta or green beans as kids, so I'm going to guess"France". And I haven't looked at the comments yet so we'll see.

Spain or Portugal?

If yes, which one?

😂

Coinkidinki · Today 08:33

In reality I would probably choose the burger minus bap and wedges for health reasons, but if I were throwing caution to the winds I'd enjoy the one with the bap more!

I'm going to guess you are in Spain. My limited experience of Spanish food suggests they like meat more than bread and potatoes.

SockPlant · Today 08:34

Stopshoutingtv · Yesterday 22:15

😂Why?

Because you mean 'bread cake'

😆

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · Today 08:35

Has anyone guessed Sweden yet? They do eat normal burgers but they love some pasta too.

Needmorelego · Today 08:40

sashh · Today 05:55

And the chips would probably be crinkle cut. I blame Ben

Oh and on the linguistics of bun / bap / barm etc A hamburger is a burger in a bun /barm/ bap etc.

My mum had a cutter especially to make crinkle cut chips.
She probably still has it but doesn't do homemade chips anymore.
She also doesn't use the (terrifying to me) deep fat fryer which made the chips delicious.
Oven chips are just not as good 🙁

I'm stuck on a "bap'

A Northern word for a bun. That or bread cake. Which is used for a roll.

Tryagain26 · Today 08:45

I was born in England I am now in my late 60s but when I was a child if we had burgers it was always without a bread. Even cafes would serve burgers , chips and beans without a bun
I think the addition of a bun to make it a hamburger was something that came from the USA.
Re the country you are in perhaps France?

Isthismykarma · Today 08:45

When I was in Montenegro I was very upset to have ordered a burger and receive just a burger, no bun gherkin or sauce 🤣 So that’s my guess

Loulou4022 · Today 08:49

Stopshoutingtv · Yesterday 22:18

Yes true 🤣 but it terms of a burger, surely it has to be a burger bap, rather than burger roll? Doesn’t make sense

Just to throw a spanner in the works I’d say burger bun!!

I've just seen it's not France in that case Germany

I'm a 100% barm person, but surely it's a burger bun??

CasperGutman · Today 08:53

Now, if it had been fried chicken instead of a burger, then option B would have put me in mind of Jollibee and I'd have said the Philippines.

butterpuffed · Today 09:00

Why is OP asking us to guess which country they're in ?

Option A is a normal BBQ one, Option B is unusual but nothing extreme , so it could be one of many countries. What's the point of knowing ?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · Today 09:01

Option A, as long as it’s not a brioche bun.

Minniliscious · Today 09:04

Australia or US

VoguePlanet25 · Today 09:05

I like a Royale....with Cheese....🤣

Spain or Portugal?

Or Belgium?

When I was growing up my mum served burgers with mashed potatoes and veg. Burgers in buns were for bbq's and eating out. I see some others here had similar mums!

I would choose Option A.

Burger with pasta sounds so unappetising

I've already said all the caveats about this but yeah totally agree.

I too am old enough to remember plain patties with no bun etc but usually it would be with chips not pasta. Or maybe potatoes and veg.

I can't get my head around this combo. It sounds really awful.

Pasta with a meat pattie.

Just doesn't go at all. Rice sounds vaguely better but only just.

Kelticgold · Today 09:23

My mum used to batter the burgers before frying them 🤣
She would serve them with chips though.

When I was a child if people had burgers at home they were usually served with chips or mash - no buns.
Unless it was very specifically a BBQ. Then you got a bun.
(which was probably once a year when relatives came over on the august bank holiday 😂)
My daughter likes to eat burgers with rice. Even if at a BBQ. No buns for her. Even at McDonald's or Burger King she doesn't eat the bun.
Never had burger with pasta. Although whats the difference really between meatballs and pasta vs burger and pasta other than the shape of the squished up meat 🤔
Conclusion.....
Does it matter?

Growing up, we often had burgers with mash, vegetables and gravy and no bun. We also had burger, chips and beans without a bun.

ToadRage · Today 09:25

I have never had option B. If i was invited for burgers I would expect option A.

BlackCat14 · Today 09:34

My eyes have been opened- I’ve never even considered a burger without its bun (or bap, or whatever you want to call it).

If the burger and pasta also came with a herby tomato sauce that would be fine (no different to meat balls) but I wouldn’t want it without the sauce, just burger and pasta sounds very dry. And I also wouldn’t call that “having a burger” I’d call it a pasta dish.

We had a crinkle cutter mum got it from.a market stall that was demonstrating them, she definitely still has it along with her microwave egg "boiler"
