To find pavement chalking by neighbour unreasonable?

We are in a row of houses which have a footpath running in front of the road with a grassed area either side. One of the neighbours has two kids, who for the past week have been drawing on the pavement using chalk. It looks an utter mess. Would it be wrong of me to say something to the parents?

Wait now, I've just realised that maybe all of us commenting have misunderstood and actually what you wanted to say to the parents was.... "Isn't it lovely to see the kids out in the fresh air doing lovely chalk drawings"

Same here for all my kids. Miss those simple innocent days ☺️

Chunky coloured chalk! Huh. When I was a kid we only had thin little half sticks of plain white chalk that we pinched from school. And they say us boomers have had it all our own way. 🙁

It’s just rained where I live for the first time in what feels like 5 years. If you live anywhere near me, it’s probably gone now! It’s not worth the conversation.

Also If my neighbour did some chalk drawings instead of chain smoking out his bedroom window so my babies nursery didn’t smell like a 1970s pub on a Friday night, I would be a very happy neighbour.

loulouljh · Yesterday 20:59

When it rains it will wash away. Leave them be. They will be back to school soon enough.

Stressedmummyof4 · Yesterday 20:59

i did this as a child as did my kids when younger, a younger family moved into our street and the girls brought the chalk out last summer, everyone stopped and told them their drawings were great, adults took part in the hopscotch ect. Then one neighbour came out with a brush and a bucket of soapy water, let’s just say everyone in the street with kids now looks at her like a nutter especially when someone who is ages with their grown up daughter said they done it every summer with her daughter when they were younger, strange behaviour especially when you know the first rainfall it’s disappearing anyway. It tends to be a summer activity kids enjoy why not let them until the schools go back or the weather turns?

Bloody Nora, this has got to be rage bait!? Seriously? Children drawing with chalk?! What a lovely, screen-free pastime. I'd probably call over - can you draw me a giraffe please, or something like that. Its called life.

Unless it says "HANJI83 IS A CUNT"

Let it go, it will wash away in the rain eventually

Ox shit?! Where on earth do you live? 😄

Great typo btw

Fox! 🦊

Although I do wonder sometimes just what breed of god my neighbours have.

Cluelessfirstimer · Yesterday 21:00

Can't belive it myself. We all know chalk is a gateway drug.

One day doing chalk drawings the next day its dealing class A drugs. These kids must he stopped.

In the middle of covid when my kids were 3 and 7 and bored witless, they did an activity chalk design up our street - like hopscotch and ‘spin here’ and ‘jump 5 times’ and such. All the kids in the neighbourhood were running up and down the street giggling (while far apart). A neighbour 3 doors down came out and power washed the exact space in front of his house. It poured with rain 4 days later anyway and honestly - it’s chalk! I have never forgotten that - like who was he even trying to impress with his perfect pavement while we were all desperately bored in our pjs.

FFS get a hobby

ThatLemonBee · Yesterday 21:06

Get a grip ! Wow . It’s chalk it will wash out . Everyone is always meaning about kids not playing outside so you have a neighbour who is actually a good parent and you want to be an awful person

CeciliaMars · Yesterday 21:07

Damn kids having good wholesome fun outdoors.

Ok, clearly there’s a strong disagreement. No it’s not a reverse. It does look a mess. But clearly I’m being harsh so I won’t approach my neighbour or argue with everyone on here.

I think it’s probably more noticeable because the lack of rain has meant it’s not getting washed away. Possibly best not to talk to the neighbour, though. Hopefully rain is on the way.

Lucyccfc68 · Yesterday 21:10

We had a neighbour like you over the kids just enjoying themselves and she was a miserable old cow too 😂

Its just a bit of chalk not spray paint and it will wash off when it rains.

We have a big walk way at the front of our houses and when I got home tonight, I had a go on the hop scotch that the kids drew with chalk.

Mourningmorningsleep · Yesterday 21:11

Sometimes a child near me draws a hopscotch and I've seen so many adults do the hopscotch when they though no one was looking. Love it.

It doesnt look a mess. It looks like happiness, joy and laughter.

Three things that are clearly missing from your life, and for that I am sorry for you.

Oh for goodness sake get the kids a fucking iPad, what is the world coming to

Or, better still, don't.

WitchesBrew666 · Yesterday 21:14

Cluelessfirstimer · Yesterday 20:34

Can't win honestly.

Send those kids outside ! Literally complaints about them so much as breathing

Send those kids inside! Oh FFS you ipad parents.

Exactly what I was going to say. Has the world always been this fucking miserable with regards to kids being kids or is it relatively new?!

meercat23 · Yesterday 21:15

Of all the things that Kids do this has to be the most harmless. Didn't we all do that when we were kids. No lasting damage. When the rain finally comes it will be gone.

We had to break cheapo ornaments and use the sharp end!

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · Yesterday 21:17

Are they chanting while chalking pentacles and cabalistic symbols, to summon Lucifer? If so, I’m on board with complaints.

Hopscotch and scribbles, all good.
