AIBU to feel uncomfortable about my neighbour's comments during renovations?

New neighbour doing renovations, knocked on my door earlier to apologise for noise which is fine honestly dont mind it, not too noisey tbh. But then he started telling me how rock hard he is and if i ever need him to feel safe to give him a text and he'd be straight around... he previously gave me his number to make sure there was no one being weird around his property when he wasnt there as hes not currently living in the property, but he made me feel abit uncomfortable as he started saying no strings attatched and stuff after saying he'll keep me safe.... I don't know if its just me feeling uncomfortable or if that its normal to say no strings attatched about stuff.. so the question is AIBU to feel uncomfortable? Is he just being genuine... i think it makes me feel uncomfortable as he knows i have a partner who lives with me and he will avoid him like the plague, but when im out he will be straight out wanting to speak about all his money and cars and stuff...

Thank you all for your advice i think im going to practice some waya to end the coversation, i just find it hard im such a soft person i struggle to say no or upset people

Ah, perhaps he is wrongly interpreting your willingness to keep listening as a sign of interest.
If you find it hard to say a firm NO, you could practice with DP or anyone else. Nothing aggressive, maybe a breezy, 'Thanks very much, that's good to know I can call you if necessary. Now I must get on, good luck with the renovations'.

Here you go, OP. The Gift of Fear.

Ignore the Stepford Mums on here that like to pretend that no man would ever do to a woman what men have been doing to women since the beginning of time.

Guilty about what? He’s not some genuinely nice man who’s just being a bit of a nuisance with his renovations. He’s a twat who is trying his luck and he’s being really fucking disrespectful about it. And if your DP had a new colleague who was messaging him every day to tell him what a wonderful a, b or c she was and to contact him if he ever needed x, y or a, how impressed would you be if he’d failed to put a stop to it because he felt guilty?

This man is not hard. He is a poop. Genuinely hard men do not behave like that. If he offers again, just say no thanks, we’re fine, that won’t be necessary. Must go, I’ve got something on the hob. Don’t wait for a response or for him to give you permission to end the conversation. Just say goodbye and shut the door. If he approaches you while your DC are in the front garden waiting for their transport, then interrupt him and say I’m going to stop you there Fred, I won’t have my DC thinking there’s anything that their mum will ever need protection from and, if memory serves me correctly, we’ve already had this conversation a couple of times, so I’ll let you get on with your day as I’m sure you’ll have a million things to check over, and I really enjoy some quiet time with the DC before school. Have a lovely day, won’t you.

All these posts suggesting OP tell him this / move house wtf!?
Have you not read what she has said? She doesn't like confrontation, and doesn't want to engage with him AT ALL . He is taking advantage of this, and is bang out of order.
OP - ask your partner to knock on his door and tell him to stop coming round. Give whatever reason you like but don't put up with this shit.

Lew96 · 19/08/2026 08:11

Yeah that would make me really uncomfortable i suppose im genuinely not looking for a conversation with him and i would never want my partner to feel like that. Im going to try my best to avoid ive ordered a doorbell an whne he knocks on im going to ignore if by myself or get my partner to go to the door

I think he might be 'grooming' you, be very careful. And you are not obliged to answer the door, even if he knows you are in.

He is being smutty and disrespectful. This behaviour would sicken me. I would avoid the dirty sod like the plague.

Wait I didn’t take it as smutty at all. Just that he’s hard as in tough in a fight and offering his fighting services no strings attached.

I’m not usually overly naive or innocent but maybe I am here - but if my neighbour knocked on my door and said “I’m rock hard, ring me if you ever feel unsafe, no strings attached” I wouldn’t take any innuendo from it.

I’d think he was a bit of a prick and I’d probably be wary of him from then on out, but I wouldn’t see it as smutty or a sexual advance.
