To join a dating site just to chat?

I’m a single mum and, because of my circumstances, I’m pretty much stuck at home in the evenings. I get quite bored and lonely, and I’ve been thinking about joining a dating site simply to have people to chat to in the evenings.
I wouldn’t be pretending I was looking for a relationship or planning to meet up. I’d be upfront from the beginning that I’m only interested in chatting and getting to know people, with no intention of taking it offline.
I know dating apps are obviously designed for people who are looking to date, so I’m wondering whether it would be unfair or misleading to use one purely for conversation, even if I’m completely honest about my intentions.
Would you think this was unreasonable, or is there nothing wrong with it as long as I’m upfront?

I did this when my child was young and never had childcare to go out in the evenings, probably the same situation you're in now. I still speak to some of the guys 5+ years later

Thanks that’s good to know

I've got friends from OLD and we just chat. We didn't have romantic inclinations after a few calls but did have things in common that we became friends over. I've never met them and we share memes as well as text throughout the week. And I've seen a few on OLD recently that are seeking chat only.
Try it,. What have you to lose. You can always delete the app.

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of thing it would be for. If no one’s interested that’s fine but I’m sure there may be some interest I can’t be the only one in this situation.

You also get to choose. If they've written a decent bio on the site then it gives you some insight tot he type of person they are and the sort of things you may have in common. Music or fashion or films etc. Common interests that you can discuss. I also talk about family, children and friends and so do they. It's also important to share a sense of humour. So that convo's can be light and funny too.
