Was the dog invited?

Follow up to last week's post re: uninvited dog arriving at ours over the weekend alongside brother in law and wife...

Dog arrived. My husband had already had the conversation with his brother that he should have asked if it could come. Brother in law agreed, but promised the dog would be no trouble.

And then... we are all woken up at 5 am on Sunday morning by it barking its little furry ass off loudly and continually inside the house, the yappy little bugger.

😂Thanks for the update, op. When do they leave?

FrannyScraps · 10/08/2026 19:33

Just chill. It's one morning! I can't believe people get so antsy about a dog visiting. Dogs are the best and I thank my lucky stars that our family always saw our dog (RIP) as a member of our family and if we were invited then he was invited (according to them).

If only it had been possible for you to tell them not to bring it…

Yeah, if only I had cancelled my husband's long-planned weekend with his brother. That would have been a really nice thing to do...

I was a joy and a delight until 5am Sunday morning.

Did they apologise for the 5am disturbance or did they think it was all fine?

Wow! As a former dog owner it's really not that simple. A dog in a non-dogproofed house is a serious imposition.

Somewhere in between...

Big dog or little dog? We're dog owners and there a massive difference to the deafening woofs of a lab or alsation as opposed to a yap from a shitzu.

Still, if dh said they should've asked hopefully it won't happen again!

Dog- proofed?

How naughty is your dog?

DoggyAuntie · 10/08/2026 19:48

It's a little yappy dog.

Not sure how it's better to be up at 5 on a Sunday because a little dog has woken you up rather than a big dog.

"A yap" might have been ignorable.

It isn't better to be woken by a little dog at all but from a loudness point of view big dogs are much noisier.

caringcarer · 10/08/2026 19:55

I've got 2 dogs but is only take them to visit in so eone else's house if they were invited. My adult DS would stay overnight at my house with dogs if they were not invited.

Commiserations OP. I can't get over the entitlement of your in laws imposing their yappy mongrel on unsuspecting hosts

GlosGirl82 · 10/08/2026 19:56

Honestly - so so rude of them

She invited them to stop on their way home from their UK holiday with their dog.... what were they supposed to do with him??

Flowersandfauna · 10/08/2026 20:03

They'll soon be gone 😔
