Would I be unreasonable to eat the pringles?

We were in a supermarket car park today and as we got back to the car a Pringle packer rolled down the pavement.
We picked it up to save it rolling across the car park creating litter. We realised it was a brand new, in date, completely sealed pack. We looked around but no one was looking for them. Would you have eaten them??

Now you can do this.

MyThreeWords · 10/08/2026 18:43

Have you never SEEN a horror film, OP??

When something rolls enticingly into view without any apparent cause it is ALWAYS a malign temptation from a restless ghost. Probably a Victorian child but, in any case, certainly an entity that you will be shackled to through all sorts of terrors if you do not RESIST.

Was the supermarket car park built on a burial ground? Almost certainly the answer is yes. In any case, DO NOT EAT THE PRINGLES. If you do, you will be doomed all the way to deepest hell. That's what the advert means when it says 'Once you pop you just can't stop.'

DonaldWheresMaTweezers · 10/08/2026 19:02

No, they're nasty reconstituted things that leave an unpleasant aftertaste, I'd rather eat proper crisps.

Oh this made me laugh a lot! It's too late for me (and my husband, who was the ringleader in the eating the pringles decision) will update on any future ghostly activity!

I'd have waited in the car park for several hours asking every shopper to check if they 'had anything missing'. If no joy I'd have gone into the store and asked to see their CCTV. If still no luck, I'd have handed them in to the police. After a fortnight I'd follow up to see if they'd been claimed and if not I'd collect them and donate to the local foodbank.
Anything less is theft. Pure and simple.

I trust you are joking ?

LizzieSiddal · 10/08/2026 19:22

No I wouldn’t dare open that packet because whilst I absolutely LOVE the taste of them, I always get a very bad stomach ache afterwards. (This obviously has nothing to do with the fact I can polish off about 3/4 of a pack in one sitting)

I hope you enjoyed them OP.

Whosthetabbynow · 10/08/2026 19:22

I’d have chucked them in the boot

It could be a false Pringles covered in Novichok…

The OP still seems to be alive despite eating them

What's bonkers is that you didn't read the post I was replying to, which had nothing to do with Pringles...

It is indeed. My apologies. I think I was giddy at the notion someone was getting free Pringles.

OP has confirmed it was sour cream and chives , those bad boys wouldn’t have made it home , once you pop and all that !!

Yes but now you pop and the tube is half empty already. The shrinkflation on Pringles is a national catastrophe. And they no longer dip properly! Break too easily.

Absolutely not but I have OCD so perhaps the idea that they may have been tampered with is not real.

What does OCD have to do with it?

arlequin · 10/08/2026 23:02

dancehysterical22 · 10/08/2026 22:33

What does OCD have to do with it?

OCD causes the sufferer to have irrational thoughts that they find incredibly distressing. Like someone may have deliberately tampered with the Pringles to harm others.

Still not on really that you took someone else's lost food and ate it just because you were skint.

They could've been far more skint.

Or if you'd left it alone, they could've come back a few minutes later.

Agreed. Before I came on mumsnet I had no concept that people just took things others had lost and kept them (unless they literally happened to be thieves at the same time) I just can't imagine doing that.

But she's got 3 kids and was broke so it's ok Hmm

Obvs of course. It would make Parliament in days. National support for restoring proper tube levels.

TallSturdyGirls · 10/08/2026 14:47

To be honest, I would have but I had just done a big food ahop with 3 kids under the age of 5 It was in a massive Asda car park, and there was no way I was going to get all my kids out the car, walk back to the shop find someone to hand it to on the off chance that they would come back when they hadnt even bothered to stop when I waved them down!

Or you could have just left it there for when the person realised they were missing a bag?

Wasn’t relevant to what the poster asked, though.

Chickadee26 · 11/08/2026 03:02

I'd have left them to a genuine destitute person.

Why not? The ocd would mean she wouldn’t eat them
