As the book launch is coming, let the discussion continue.

First thread: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/5563599-the-jason-arday-scandal?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share
This is lifted from the thread in the education section, which is an interesting summary

This really angers me as you're all being fooled and made to think racism when the real villains are the liberal and left wing organizations that saw a vulnerable autistic black chap and manipulated him pushing him forward for their own gain only to instantly cut him lose and leave him with the fallout the second they knew they had been caught out.

I think he was likely genuine and genuinely believed some of the outrageous things he said as there was some truth to them but due to his ND was very easily manipulated and the almost perfect person for certain organizations and political types to use.

If it was racism this story wouldn't have got this far

This!

What an awful tragic ending.

Voltaireiswoman · 14/08/2026 21:29

The family should be given respect and time but the University and people who pushed them abandoned Jason need to be held accountable for this and if it was me I would go as far as charging the lot of them with manslaughter.

I'm white but have ASD and know it's been used against me in the past to manipulate me and I can imagine the sense of abandonment and isolation Jason's must have felt when they all turned on him and rather than support him and admit they had maybe overstepped they cried racism to try and avoid blame leaving Jason to feel like he had no one to turn to.

How anyone regardless of race isn't absolutely horrified by this and both the left and right wing media's profit and click farming of it is beyond me.

JasmineMac · 14/08/2026 21:30

Awful outcome.

Father of two children.

I thought the scrutiny of him was, sadly and typically, wildly excessive. "Modernity has failed us".

RIP.

Poor guy :(

I think people need to back the fuck off the guy to be honest. It’s actually quite sickening how vicious humans become when pack mentality kicks in. If he’s a compulsive liar as it seems, he’s likely mentally ill and needs some support with that. A thousand cuts by media isn’t going to help. Let’s not forget he hasn’t murdered or raped anyone, he told some porkies and got a role he probably shouldn’t have as a result.

Barely anyone knew who he was a couple of weeks ago. He isn’t a celebrity, he’s just a (former) uni lecturer. Seems people won’t be happy until he hangs, it’s incredibly medieval.

I came on to say this, but it’s already been said so well. Poor guy.

ExtraOnions · 14/08/2026 21:42

The Witch Hunt has got to its predictable conclusion.

Hope everyone who hounded this man are satisfied with the their work.

TheJuryIsOut · 14/08/2026 21:43

I don't think anyone on this thread (or any other) is responsible for this. I didn't have any comment to make because I didn't know enough about it and quite honestly I didn't really care, but people are within their rights to hold someone to account for their wrongdoings and have opinions on that. We can't stop holding people to account just in case something like this happens.

Oh no, no, no. You're being far too modest. I'm sure your efforts contributed to the end result - every little counts.

Vilifying people on social media isn't "holding them to account" btw

Yes, but also no. The number of people who ended their lives because of online harassment is never ending. And I bet every person who took satisfaction writing horrible things about someone else, famous or not, is sitting there thinking "oh I was just trying to make sure they were held accountable". Trial by social media, and every person who took part sadly is responsible, whether they admit it, or not.

Mousewoman · 14/08/2026 21:50

Vile behaviour that is part of the horribly inevitable conclusion.

isthisaplum · 14/08/2026 21:52

As far as I can see, one of the problems is that Cambridge were complicit in and indeed to a point encouraged the delusion(s).

Therefore for it to be addressed at all it was via the media. So … should he have remained in post indefinitely?

There are undoubtedly some difficult questions to answer. I have seen a lot of people express concern about his wellbeing prior to this and worry that he’d ended up with the finger of blame turned on him when really is was an institutional rather than individual fault.

ExtraOnions · 14/08/2026 21:52

Mail not allowing comments on the article about his death … which is a suprise seeing as they gave allowed (and encouraged) the most vile comments, in their relentless articles over the last few weeks.

Gloriia · 14/08/2026 21:54

He was let down by every single person irl who enabled and facilitated his delusions.

Sad news when anyone takes their own life. I hope Cambridge and anyone who knew exactly what he was doing hang their heads in shame.

He needed professional help and support not tv appearances and book deals.

JHound · 14/08/2026 21:57

So I see the mass media hysteria over what was for 99% of people a complete non-story has resulted in a suicide?

I think the heat has driven the Torygraph / media Right, mad.

Piknik · 14/08/2026 21:58

Poor man.

Cambridge covered their ears and put him on a throne that he should never been allowed to sit on, in order to fulfill their agenda of looking progressive.

Look where your stupid fucking box ticking has got you. A vulnerable fantasist who was in no way equipped to deal with the fallout of his house of cards falling over. YOU were the gatekeepers and you failed.

Yes. All very sad but totally preventable.

Stable and Horse.

The whole Arday affair reminds me of that film with Winona Ryder and the salem witch trials? Where they have a spate of mass hysteria in the court room?

Basically “man lies about his experience on CV” became a multi-media outlet story?

MADNESS! But anyway he’s dead now. Maybe the media can find somebody new to hound to death?

CallMeDaphne · 14/08/2026 22:01

KatiePricesKnickers · 10/08/2026 08:04

He’s not mentally ill, he’s never had his lies challenged before, by the looks of it.
It also looks like some of his students have been put at a disadvantage.

As for leave him alone, he is seeking publicity himself with his new book of fables.

Happy now?

ExtraOnions · 14/08/2026 22:02

I see the “not my fault Governor” people are out and about…

…how many other Academics, that have been accused of Plagirism, have these people been upset about (I’m guessing none).

I agree, an absolute disgrace, any which way

isthisaplum · 14/08/2026 22:05

It isn’t just plagiarism. it’s absolutely true that if it was just plagiarism it would be a non story.

The story as I understand it is that Ardhay plagiarised and that this plagiarism led directly to an extremely prestigious role.

I am not comfortable with the suggestions from some that we shut up about that because it has led to this tragedy (and it is a tragedy.)

How ridiculous, the failure was the SM witch hunt from those desperate to pull apart race and neurodiversity. You see it more and more and it’s getting out of hand.He didn’t kill anybody yet he was hounded to death in a way that would never have happened if he was white and NT.

Of course .. it was the Universities fault .. not the three weeks of harassment, in the media, an online - that clearly had NOTHING to do with it.
…you keep kidding yourself.

Still, he’s dead now, go and find someone else who lied on thier CV to harrass
