Husband snores like a pig

Husband snores like a pig. He won’t see the doctor and really does not care if I am struggling to sleep. Am I unreasonable to move out of the bedroom into another room. I can’t stand it any longer plus it’s damaging my health. I have played him recordings - he does not care

OP - maybe if you approached the snoring from a health angle explaining you’re worried about him you might make more progress? Snoring…could be apnea…untreated there is a heightened risk of blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, type 2 diabetes, and severe daytime fatigue.

Have the test kit delivered to your home and ask him to use it for a night? So at least you both know where you stand?

In response to

“Seriously? I'd be considering moving out of the relationship altogether. Ultimatum time.”

No. I didn’t go to the doctors for many years as didn’t have any health issues. Didn’t want to waste their time. My husband was worried as was convinced I stopped breathing at times so I did but they are getting inundated by people like me who they then have to treat and the waits are long and set to get worse . The MN “just get a CPAP machine” when nobody knows the person snoring or if they even have sleep apnea or the reality of having one( many don’t continue because it is uncomfortable) is also not helpful.

So you were as selfish as OPs husband for many years too then?

You refused to go to the doctors despite your husband's concern for your health and the impact your snoring was having on him?

OP's DH is showing such contempt to her I would - and did - make an ultimatum. Snoring at that level is undoubtedly causing secondary health problems for HIM too and the absolute refusal to seek any sort of remedy is unforgivable. This isn't an 'otherwise loving relationship' in any form.

No my husband and I sleep in separate rooms so there is no impact.

The fact is if there is no sleep apnea a lot of snoring can’t be magically disappeared and MN posters shouldn’t be telling posters to run off to the sleep clinic and demand an expensive CPAP machine. The sleep clinic told me the mouth guards aren’t that effective and if you don’t have an life style habits to correct like me there is nothing if you don’t get on with a CPAP machine which you should only have if you have moderate to severe sleep apnea and all snorers don’t.

Nearly have the population snore( men and
women) and it gets worse as you get older so telling posters to just ditch their partners if they don’t get it magically sorted is ridiculous.

I would move to the spare room, it will improve your health and wellbeing and would seem to be your only option.

shatteringshell · 09/08/2026 08:36

I sleep separate from my husband due to his snoring. Have told him to see a doctor a million times.

Sonolanona · 09/08/2026 08:48

My dh only started snoring in the last 6 months. He's slim and fit, but due to a bad shoulder injury he now sleeps on his back...so snores. I'm very sound sensitive and have always worn ear plugs at night but it drives me nuts and I generally go down and sleep on the sofa (the spare room isn't far enough away!)

However he's very apologetic about it! I go downstairs because he drives for a living and needs good quality sleep more than I do. He doesn't stop breathing at all so probably no point going to the docs.

I must admit I have had fantasies about putting a pillow over his head some nights, and I love the man!

Pinkflamingo10 · 09/08/2026 09:12

I moved into my own room years ago. We’re both so much happier.

Loulou4022 · 09/08/2026 09:29

DH is an intermittent snorer so if he starts and I can’t sleep I just decamp to the spare room for the night.

Bonkers1966 · 09/08/2026 09:30

Enjoy your own space 😀you won't recognise yourself in a week.

How ridiculous. Glad my husband is more reasonable. We’ve been married for 38 years.I snore and like many have sleep apnea.

There are insane waits for the sleep clinic, the nurse who saw me says it’s common but so many people are running to be tested and to get a CPAP machine due to social media they can’t keep up or afford it. The machines are a huge amount of money. I was given one as my sleep apnea is high ( I have zero other health concerns or weight issues and they are seeing more like this). I had my trial and it’s quite uncomfortable. The masks which they can’t reuse are hundreds of pounds. You can try several. I don’t like the pressure as you breathe in with it so not sure if I’ll continue but will give it a good go. We sleep separately because of it which we both actually quite like during the working week as have differing schedules. My husband is going to try the Loops for holidays and weekends. Are they the dream ones?

Really silly and over dramatic to suggest chucking away a good relationship just over snoring. Nobody is perfect.

I’ve finished 2 relationships due to snoring. I was on my knees with exhaustion. As soon as I was out of the relationships and getting a good nights sleep I returned to my normal self. It was well worth ending the relationship for!

BCBird · 09/08/2026 10:25

Get him to move out.

Noras · 09/08/2026 14:30

Thanks all - my DD bedroom it is - need to get some new blind in. I was wrong to say snoring like a pig but I am running on 3 hours sleep so not very reasonable. Also I have my own health issues and poor sleep contributes to this ( lipids) He needs to lose some weight to be fair he works out 3 times per week and is aware of that. For the sake of our lives together I will subtly be sleeping elsewhere after our night chats.

Why have you not already moved rooms?

arethereanyleftatall · 09/08/2026 14:38

Isn’t it not the snoring but the incredibly selfish and uncaring attitude that’s the problem? Changing rooms doesn’t fix those. Is it that you genuinely think this is better than being single (of course it isn’t) or that you can’t afford to live without this selfish prick?

Nobody is suggesting that people ditch their partners just because they snore.

They're saying that if you have a partner who snores, knows that they do it and that it impacts you, and they still refuse to get help - then you should consider ending the relationship as it just shows a fundamental level of disrespect and selfishness.

X-post lol. This is exactly it.

It's not the snoring, it's the selfishness of refusing to do anything about it.

TheGardenPond · 09/08/2026 08:08

Which Loops have you got Electoral? I bought some for this purpose and sent them back for a refund as DH snores blasted right through.

The Loop Quiet, they're quite old now so probably the original version, i see they're selling V2 now

BluntAzureDreamer · 09/08/2026 17:48

My husband works nights sometimes and I can hear him snoring from downstairs during the day 😫 he lost weight and stopped drinking which helped loads but the snoring didn't fully stop.

Hearos ear plugs off Amazon are the best I've tried (and I've tried LOTS), they're pretty cheap (about £9 for 14 pairs) and you roll them between your fingers then put them in your ear canal. They block out pretty much everything and I now literally can't sleep without them.

But yes, another vote for sleeping separately if that's better for you.
