To ask if you can tell that these are jeans?

I picked up these cream jeans from M&S. I love them, I think they’re perfect for autumn/winter. They’re deliciously soft, and so comfortable. But by looking at them can you tell they’re jeans?! I think they could pass for normal work trousers for work, which has a no jeans policy.

AIBU to think they look like normal trousers?!

I would need a real life picture in natural daylight to be able to have an opinion really.

I’ve not got them on, but this is them!

I think you’d get away with those. Jeans to me are the typical blue / black denim. Those look fine.

SecretSquid · 01/08/2026 15:49

Well what makes jeans, jeans? They don't look like jeans to me. The style, the fabric, the colour don't say jeans to me

Xanadu58 · 01/08/2026 15:49

I wouldn't automatically think they were jeans by looking at that picture. They don't have jean 'features' such as studs etc . I imagine its the fabric that defines them as jeans maybe .

I think the work definition is the traditional denim look. We’ve been told before nothing light, so I’m hoping these pass! They’re lovely in person, soooo soft

They are not jeans.

They are not jeans.

According to M&S they are!

First picture no, second picture yes.

itsgettingweird · 01/08/2026 15:53

I think they are defined as jeans as your picture clearly shows they are denim base with the seam that jeans are made with iyswim?

Whether work would allow them to pass only you can know that.

Surely the jeans or not jeans is irrelevant here if you are not allowed to wear light colours?

boundarysponge · 01/08/2026 15:54

Would the colour be suitable for work? It doesn’t seem very practical.

AndSoFinally · 01/08/2026 15:55

As above, they are trousers made of denim. Whether that passes or fails the definition of jeans would only be seen by wearing them and seeing if anything is said

We are! Just no light jeans.

I’m in an office, I think light bases are easy to work with!

If you aren’t allowed light jeans I don’t think these will pass

I think when they say it they mean light blue. Dark jeans are allowed, so I’m assuming if these look like normal trousers then they should be okay?!

I think the seams in the second picture look like jeans.

corblimeymlud · 01/08/2026 16:17

From that photo they do look more like jeans.

TheBrunswick · 01/08/2026 16:19

They are definitely jeans from the seams and material in your photo.
However, if you style them out I think you'll get away with wearing them.

I’m thinking with some nice knits and ankle boots you wouldn’t be able to tell, really

BatchCookBabe · 01/08/2026 16:30

Not jeans. And they're fugly! 😬

Where I work we are not allowed to wear traditional blue jeans, but black or coloured ones are okayStupid rule if you ask me. I would say yours are okay.
